Can you guys do something where the Forum software looks at the zip code you have in your profile and recognizes what timezone you're in and changes the times listed for the games played, posts, etc and adjusts accordingly. Thanks.

It'd be much more logical to just have a dropdown menu for users to select their timezone from, rather than making the system scan.

I heard once that the time zone thing just won't happen. It might, because I may have my information wrong. I guess I'm more comfortable because I'm already in the US Pacific time zone, GMT-18:00.

All times are in Bungie Standard Time. If you're going to take over the world, you have to be consistent.

There are several problems with this. First, we would have to have timezones worldwide. That doesn't work, because daylight savings time and other such things mess it up. Even if there was some way we could simply adjust for your timezone, we also have the problem of caching. To make bungie.net fast, we store the output of each page in an "output cache" and refresh it every so often. This allows us to be very speedy because only a few requests actually have to calculate stats or produce output - most requests just return the saved cached copy. Timezones would fragment that cache considerably, greatly reducing the efficiency of the system.

It is possible we could find a solution in the future, but for the forseeable future, it isn't something that is likely to change.

TinMan? He's a pleasant sort. Doesn't talk much, but when he does, it's usually worth listening to. He had a recent sticky about official wallpapers that he was making.

I wonder if he did the one with the Mark's IV, V and VI all defending a group of huddled civilians from alien hordes?

I'm not familiar with that wallpaper. But anywho, it's almost 4:30 AM here in the Netherlands, but following TinMan's remark, I shouldn't go to bed any soon? :-)

Bungie Time is GMT-8, so you can figure your universal time from that -- it's not even a big deal really is it? I rarely even pay attention to the hour it was posted.

So figure -- Our new Bungie Time designates are

GMT = BST+8
Eastern = BST+3
Central = BST+2
Mountain = BST+1
Pacific = BST

And for the others -- well, I'm at work and don't have all the time in the world, so look them up yourself.

Except for the part about Daylight Savings Time and how some places observe it and others don't... that's about right.

There are some odd areas that are off by half an hour too - (Like marinealver's home).

DERRRR.... and users will chanegit when they need to....

It would have been fine if he would have read and understood the other posts in the thread that explained why it was not possible. "Magic code" doesn't exist. I wish it did. I might do more programming myself if it were that simple. ;)

Damn that Daylight Savings! ok, Achronos after bungie conquers the world you must build a time machine and then go back in time and kill, ummmm....that person, who invented Daylight savings, just hope its not your mom.

I think the central time is a good idea. It shows when you posted compared to others.
