Halo 1 did something like the elite squad. Think about it... remember that first invisible elite? Or what about your first hunter? The first time they were always harder, ergo... "bosses"

bosses don't really belong in FPS's. they take out some of the fun. going through the same boss each time you decide to play that level will get just boring and worn out. no bosses.

The sword wielding gold Elites were bosses. Should we get rid of them?

Three words. Bosses. Are. -blam!-. Honestly, i already posted sumtin like this before, all you do when you fight a boss is wait for a weakspot to show upa, shoot two or three times, make a little bit of their health bar go down, then repeat, to make it simple, THEY JUST -blam!-!

Bosses are -blam!-in weak, they are just there to make an other wise easy game hard for that very moment...that's what set halo apart, it was hard all the time....or in the least a little difficult. No bosses was just another thing halo had up its sleeve on other games and that's exactly why Halo kicked so much ass!

What are you talking about, gold elites weren't bosses! They were just the strongest type of elite with a one hit kill sword, but they are to easy to kill to be considered a "boss."

I'm not for fighting something like Kraid or Ridley from Metroid, but something to the effect of a boss would be a nice change. Perhaps if gold elites with swords were actually more dangerous than the others, then that would make a perfect boss. Elite high-guard/ prophets with whatever psychic abilities they have would make good boss battles without being the dodge-dodge-shoot-dodge-dode-shoot fights in other FPS's.
Like I said, nothing big, but rather much tougher than ordinary once in a while.

First off. To anyone that considered a single enemy from Halo to be a boss.

WTF are you smoking? There are no bosses in Halo. None. And it should remain as such in Halo 2.

Bosses 5ux0rz. 73|-|j |\|07 l337 and they are most certainly not Halo.

Heck yes. If a Gold Elite with a sword came out of a door way with four of his special ops elite buddies all wielding swords... Well, that Gold is definitely a boss character.

Similarly are the bosses in Splinter Cell. The first time I popped up and fired I managed a lucky burst and hit the boss between the eyes. He died instantly. Mopping up his cronies was child's play in comparison.

I fail to see how that is a "boss" character. It is nothing more than an Elite. A class 3C threat. That's all. Even with his buddies that only constitutes as a class 3A. Which is no where near a boss in my book.

Err, you'll have to explain your threat-class system if you're going to use it in argument. Otherwise, you just don't make any sense, Hikaru.

The only real disagreement you seem to have with anybody who is pro-boss is how you define a boss. I think most, if not all of us are against an evil alien giant you have to circle around and shoot at (which seems to be your interpretation of a boss). However, most of everybody thinks there should be harder enemies in certain situations. Draerden brought up a good comparison with SplinterCell. In both games 'bosses' aren't giant floating alien heads or tanks, but rather particularly strong enemies with good aim like gold elites. They have the same weaknesses (the head) as anybody else, but provided much more of a challenge than some average joe.

If you agree that there should be gold elites or black commando elites, then I think you ultimately agree with Draerden and the argument is moot.
