Over at gamefaqs.com, there's currently a big battle over whether or not to increase gore levels for Halo 2. Like, dismemberment, and that stuff.

I'm just bringing it over here in hopes of an official word (though unlikely) on this matter.

I am perfectly happy with the gore levels in Halo 1, anything more would just bring down AI. Maybe Bungie should even bring down the gore levels to reach a Teen rating by the ESRB.

And if you guys are going to discuss this, plase, no Al Gore jokes, they've already been exhausted.

Can't wait to finish the fight!

Personally i would like to have more gore...but then that means not everyone can play the game. If it isnt gorey in Halo 2 it wont ruin the game, jus as fun only without arms flying around

Why would you want to bring it down? Why would you want a teen rating? I personally would like just a little more gore.

A teen rating would make the game more marketable, as younger kids would be more likely to buy the game.

I don't want little kids on Xbox Live! I'm 15 and I personally don't want some annoying little 10 year olds playing. Keep it "M" rated fun.

I think gore makes the game better. I mean, when i shoot someone with a shotgun point blank it would make me feel a lot cooler if his guts splattered everywhere. Think about it, it doesn't have to be like Kill Bill level of gore, but i think more blood and gore would make the game better graphically.

Since there is an big emphasis on grenades, you shouls be able to bow appendages and such off. Like the flood, only goryer. And slice people into bits with the plasma sword

lol, I'm 18 and I personally don't want some annoying little 15 year olds playing.

My vote goes with a bit more gore, but losing limbs might go a bit far. Although I think i could be persuaded that the Halo 2 physics engine could make bashing an elite's head around the level with my rocket launcher sufficiently fun.

That is so true. There are so many adults out there that annoy me by being idiots. Having teenagers along for the ride would just make it ten times worse.

Still, I'm happy with the big splotches of blood. I'd rather have more enemies on screen then waste my polys and particles spent on elaborate displays of stomach disturbing nastiness. We can save that stuff for Xbox2 which should be able to handle it.

i think there shouldnt be more gore, but no enbodiment. just more blood, and bullet holes on bodies would be tight.

More Gore you ask? I say bring it on! Cmon if your quesy around blood, just imagine it as paint that comes out of your bodies.
Decapitation and balsting off arms would be the most awesome.

I think the amount of gore in many cases (especially melee attacks on jackals or elites) is just plain ridiculous. I don't mind it being in there, but there comes a point where elites have dropped more blood than could possible have been circulating in their body.
I vote less, not because I think it's bad for kids or something (it's the parents' responsibility for screening what their kids play even though that rarely happens), but rather because it can get just plain ridiculous. As for adding in dismemberment, that just seems gross. Really, isn't the flood enough as it is? If I wanted gore and dismemberment, I'd be a serial killer, but this is about having fun.

Here, here Draeden.

Oh well, it really doesn't matter. Heck, by the looks of it, Halo2 is going to be the last thing on our minds in a month or two.

I also think that bungie agreed on a standard impact/graphic partical system for the game. Maybe its easy to program and edit?

i say stick with halo's level of gore but make the flood look more like rotton corpses and have them fall apart in explosions. but just the flood because they are already decomposing

I was to be able to shoot of grunt limbs. That would be great. They could do it like they did with the flood.

I'm not a real big fan of goo beyond realism: the most realistic amount is the best. If you've played UT or Quake, you know how stupid it looks when someone explodes into more chunks than he should be able to make- when he shouldn't even be exploding at all anyway. I would like for the meshes to be deformable in realtime, even breaking apart realistically when appropriate. It doesn't look quite right when soft marines stay together when they should break, or when they don't spill the right amount of the right stuff, etc.
