I just think that the large one is better. I just picked up a halo edition xbox and i really wish I could get a halo edition large controller. It just feels better. especially for halo.

no way, everyone knows S is better, when i use L i always hit flashlight instead of Y, or change grenade instead of B, also the four buttons are too close togother, and the analags are different, not to mention that it ways as much as a small midget

The big controller is way better imo. My hands dont cramp up as fast. When the small one came out i got used to it for like 4 months but then went back, to large

I really believe that M$ screwed up their origanal controller, the button layout is way off, I don't really mind the sive but the diamond layout of the ABXY buttons and the W and B buttons were really screwed up.

Small hands, small controller
large hands, large controller.
I don't see why they stoped producting the large one.

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." Albert Einstein
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." Gandhi

Perhaps the neXtBOX will have a new controller better than both.

I also prefer the large controller...not because of the button layout though. I can get used to any button layout so that isn't the issue. It is just the size and feel of it. It feels more real and substantial to me so my hands respond better to it. I also prefer the closeness of the diamond shaped positioning of the ABXY buttons...the smaller the distance between buttons = faster reaction times in crucial multiplayer situations. Unless you're one of those players who are too clumsy to use buttons that are in close proximity :).

Not to mention that having look sensitivity jacked up to 10 (a must in multiplayer) works better with the bigger controller in my opinion.

It would be great if they made both types of controller for the HALO edition. 'Cause plenty of people like the duke.

S controller is better. the L is all weird, the white & black buttons are on top and it is HUGE! I have small hands, s controller rocks. there is only one friend of mine who likes the L type. and I have a lot of friends

The duke is by far the best, I don't know how the hell people can manage playing for hours with a tiny control like the 's' control. I played with an 's' control at my friends house cuz he didn't have enough dukes to go around and after I went home I had the worst cramps in my hand, it felt like I had RSI.

Plus, I think M$ should give us a choice, some people prefer Duke, some people prefer 's'. I will never be buying an 's' control even if it means buying 3rd party controls because I refuse to support a stupid decision by M$.

I 've never tried the S and I don't feel the need to... When I first got my xbox I used to press Y instead of white sometimes, but now my hands are bigger and I coordinate my finger movements better so I like the L.
Saying that the S was a mistake makes no sense though, as many people like it.
Stop producing the L is a mistake though (I didn't know m$ has stopped producing it?!).

I say neither.........the best controller i own is a silver gamestar one from Argos......i have used it soooooo much the rubber has eroded from the left analog stick.......but as i am so used to it i still play with it...
At the end of the day whatever you have played with the most is what you will like?
M$ know this and have tried to direct us towards the 'S' Type..........purely due to a few complaints from our younger players.

I like the L controller way more then the S controller, but being that ive been using a L controller since i got my xbox, and plus i dont own a S controller, but being a large person the S is too small for my likes so L controller all the way!!

Diamond layout is WAY better. I love the large "Dukes" better. They seem big but actually fit your hands well. (FYI...they still seel them at most/all game stores.)

Well I live in Australia and I haven't seen any at the shops. I can order them from places on the net though I think.

I just think that the large one is better. I just picked up a halo edition xbox and i really wish I could get a halo edition large controller. It just feels better. especially for halo.

Damn straight. I find that the white and black buttons on the S controller are too small, flat, recessed, and hard to find if you're in a hurry, especially if you're used to the duke. And everyone who got an xbox during the first year or so GOT a controller L, so they should have been used to that one, whereas anyone who buys one now only gets a small one.
So i think that whichever one you got first, will be 90% the one you vote for. How many people you think prefer the type other than the first one they got?

My friends always use to use my large ones, and so did I until I got an S type, I think the sticks are better placed and the buttons are more comfortable. It took a few days to get used to it, but now I find it easier to use than the large ones. And why are people complaining that is S is too small? It's the largest official console controller out there, but hey, as Strong Bad would say, "Everyone is different, no two people are not on fire".
Now my friend has his own Xbox with S types, he mysteriously can't use the large one anymore, some people just can't juggle the two controller types.

  • 04.16.2004 5:58 AM PDT

bah

I would disagree. I'd say 90% of it is hand size. People with big hands (no joke here) like the big controllers. I've seen small controllers with the same button layout as big ones, and they suck because I get hand cramps. It's kind of lame, really, to play so long you get a hand cramp, but with my SNES, the N64, and the few times I've played GameCube and PS2 for long periods, I've always had to stop for five minutes and streatch my hands. I've almost never had to do that with the big controller. (The only time i have is with Amped 2, holding the right button and spinning. I have to lock my hands in place and keep them steady. After an hour of that my hands tire, I get pissed because i can't make it through the damn photoshoot, and I stick in Halo and kill everything. :) )

I know how you feel, after playing Crash Bandicoot on PSX I had RSI for the next week, I was playing the game for a whole day cuz I was away from home...

Not happy...

You should stop playing for a while every hour or so, it becomes a health risk y'know.
