bigger is always better. except when it's not. but it is in this case. i'm a big guy, and i've got big hands. all my life i've had to put up with tiny freaking controllers. then there was xbox. finally there was a controller comfortable even for the big guy. luckily for me i bought an extra duke at release, because i've since run one into the ground, and i haven't seen any more in my neck of the woods. now all of my friends are always trying to "borrow" my other duke. it's a full time job trying to keep their grimy hands off of it. so hell yes, bring it back.

The old ones were awsome (i couldnt see why anyone complained) but then i got a controler s and i have to say IT IS ADDICTING you cant switch back untill you play with the large controler several times beacuse your body gets used to it . the controler s has the black and white buttons on and easier possition. Has anyone tried that on controller that has the buttons on the side and allows you to press a b y x without taking your thumb off the right thumbstick if so how was it.

I prefer the S-Type over the larger ones.. the buttons on the large one are too close together for me.

I used to use a large controller. Then the X-box I got for Chrstmas came with a small controller, and I was forced to use the S controller. A week later three large controllers apeared but I don't use any of them. I ought to sell my large controller and get another small one. Seems like some people need more. And as far as to what my friends use, its split up. Half used the large controllers, the other half went small, and there was someone who used ultra tiny Mad Cat controller.

i bought my x box from a friend and it had a L and S controller, so i got my pic on which controller i liked. i have always been partial to the S. it just feels more comfortable to me because i also have a PS2 so the ABXY buttons feel more comfortable on the S controller, but everybody has their own preference.

I never use my S controller. It's just too small and I've invested way too much time in the L controller in Halo... that switching over is nearly impossible for me.

The L controller naturally centers your thumb over all the keys at once so you have faster response. It's also too difficult to bring your thumb down to grab the white and black buttons on the S controller. Ergonomically the L is best for me.

I have 2 L and 1 s, since they don't sell L anymore. I have big hands and like the L better, since the buttons are easier to reach and all that. I have a friend with really tiny hands who prefer the L and a friend with bigger hands than I who prefer the s, so it can't be all handsize who determines wich is your favourite controller
when i use the s it sometimes feel lika i must bend my thump in an unnataural degrre to reach some buttons, or lika i must let go of the controller eith one hand

Hey guys... they do still sell L controllers... in canada anyways. If you have a "SuperStore" in your city, drop by the elctronics department. And you can still get L controllers with Xbox, you just have to look for them.

L controller=for manly hands S controller=fo not so manly womanish hands (hope i dont offend anybody :)

Yes they should. I have big hands, and I hate reaching down on the controller S for start, back, black and white. It's wierd when the d-pad is right under a thumbstick. The duke controller gives you plenty of space. Nothing is cramped together.

I think both have distinguishable attributes. I am able to use both controllers. The people who don't like the S controller haven't used it as much. Come on, you are the people who are not good a something right off the bat and quit. My only beef with the S is that it is difficult to hold down select (to see my stats) during game play. Your left thumb is strained hitting Select while in motion. If you have any suggestions on how to remedy this, then let me know.

The L controller is always a classic. What can I say? Most of us were "raised" on it. Can you really bash it? My friend just bought a wireless, but not of xbox brand. I am not ready for that and I don't buy anything but xbox brand.

The L's diamond actually has an ergonomic reason too. When you hold it, your right thumb goes straight up the middle, so the X and B buttons have equal access. With the S, the finger is on A and X, which i think m$ probably did due to whingeing complaints that "it wasn't enough like the playstation's". I spose that's legitimate if you're trying to gouge market share off sony.
But they should still give us a choice of which one WE want to SPEND OUR MONEY on.

I much prefer the larger original controller to the S, much more comfy for long periods i feel. Admitedly i have fairly large hands but i prefer the way that its sits in my hands as oposed to having to apply possitive grip to it like the S and the DualShock. I worked at a games company in the 2nd half of 2002 as one of the key testers of the Xbox version of one of the most high profile games of that christmas season (kerching, sorry to brag). In that time i spent most of the day playing on an Xbox and i had access to both controllers, after a lot of trying i settled on the original. Admitedly the diamond arangement of the key buttons is not ideal, but the extran size means that it sits in your hands without any effort. Using the controller S almost constantly for a days testing (prob around 12hrs usually) meant that i ended up having some quite bad cramps in my hands.

I've got 4 reguIar (large) controllers for my Xbox that i've had since (the european) launch as well as a controller S that hardly gets used. I hope that the Xbox2 controller does not mimic the controller S in size and design as it is far from ideal. Hopefully MS will give players the choice to use their old joypads with the new system, assuming the new controller is not a radical departure in functionality.

"Small controllers are for women and very small men"

Yeah that was a usefeul comment.

MS stopped producing the L/Duke/whatever because it was an embarrassment. They had made a controller that, while they thought it would appeal to the "older crowd", most people didn't like. That controller was one of the biggest points against the xbox in its early days, why would they keep producing it?

Personally, I like the original controller. As many of you have said, the S seems to cramped. However I don't believe that's an issue of size. I can play for hours on the gamecube controller without cramps, and it's even smaller than the S.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I originally liked the large controller, but once I tried the S there was no going back. Just my opinion.

I agree I found the large controller to be much better. Like you said the buttom layout is easy to get, with a little practice but concerning the movement withe sensitivity at 10 the big controller is the way to go

Escape will make me God.

I have been playing xbox Halo since it was released. During that time I primarily used the Duke. While adjusting to such a large controller, I found my hands were frequently cramped. Probably had something to do with playing the game way too much in a sitting, but that's beside the point. I found it rather funny that after using the L controller for such a long time it was actually hard to go back to something smaller, like a PS2 controller. I would literally get cramps from the Playstation controller after using the L so much.

However, a friend gave me a Japanese style S controller for xmas last year and I have been using it ever since. The analog control is tighter and your thumbs fit into grooves so they don't slide off as easily. I also prefer the placement of the black and white buttons. I could never accurately hit them all the time when using the L. I admit that for high sensitivity the S is a little tougher to use though. I really like the S controller, but am still very comfortable using the L after a few games. I may have to reevaluate which to use when Halo 2 comes out...

I agree that we should be given a choice. I started like most of you on the Duke (I had never heard it called that until this thread) but my dog ate it and I had to switch to the s type I used it for a couple of months and I got used to it but I never liked it I finnaly found some more of the large ones and bought 4 of them (never know when the dog might get hungry again) I have since never picked up a s type again and the whole big people like the big one and little people like the s type is bogus I am 5 foot 9 and I wear a small or extra small in gloves and I still can't stand the s type its too smalll the buttons arn't where they should be and it cramps my hands. Microsoft should have known that the public does'nt warm up to new things that fast everyone was used to small controllers and the L type was not it. But I am willing to bet that sooner than later someone if not microsoft will come back out with the L type. On a different (kinda) note has anyone ever had any luck with a brand other than Xbox I haven't and neither has any of my freinds I saw one that said It was made for FPS but it looked funny. Opinions?

"The Duke", as the larger controller is called is probably my favourite controller. Its probably cause when I got my Xbox it was the only thing available, and I stick like it much better than the scrawny and small Controller S.
