One thing that doesn't get mentioned very often regarding connection issues is the modem
.
I upgraded my cable modem a while back (kept the same router connected) and my computer's download speeds doubled, however I started dropping a lot of matches in HALO3, which had never happened before. I tried disconnecting the router, checked all my settings, nothing fixed the problem. This drove me crazy for nearly 2 weeks.
I work in I.T. and my brother is a network engineer so between the two of us we thought we knew just about all there is to know about networking, but apparently you really do learn something new every day because the problem was the one thing we didn't think possible...
In the end, it turned out that my cable modem (not the router or my settings) was causing the dropped matches on Xbox Live. EVERY person I spoke/emailed/posted to at xbox, bungie, and Comcast (even myself and my brother) thought that wasn't possible because the modem worked perfect for my computers an was hitting incredible upload & download speeds when we tested it; but when I replaced my Motorola Surfboard modem with a Scientific Atlanta modem the problem stopped and I haven't dropped a match since (and I'm running 5 computers, a PS3 and 3 Xbox 360's simultaneously).
I know other people with the same modem who have never had a problem with it, so maybe it was the specific model # I had, or Comcast, or a combination of things, who knows. Regardless, if you've tried everything else, swap your modem.
