I have a problem.

My NAT type used to be OPEN.
Nothing has changed since I last played Halo 3 except the new updates downloaded automatically from Bungie to continue playing Xbox Live. Now all of a sudden my NAT type is STRICT, and your page at www.bungie.net/router gives me no help whatsoever as to why this has happened or how to fix it.

Not it constantly says there are no people online in Xbox Live, I only get to search for games about half the time, I cant be leader of any party, and My connection constantly goes in and out while online - Making me think the servers for Halo 3 are crashing.

I want this fixed, and as the only logical answer is that the Bungie Update did something, I request that you at LEAST help me fix it.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned very often regarding connection issues is the modem
.
I upgraded my cable modem a while back (kept the same router connected) and my computer's download speeds doubled, however I started dropping a lot of matches in HALO3, which had never happened before. I tried disconnecting the router, checked all my settings, nothing fixed the problem. This drove me crazy for nearly 2 weeks.

I work in I.T. and my brother is a network engineer so between the two of us we thought we knew just about all there is to know about networking, but apparently you really do learn something new every day because the problem was the one thing we didn't think possible...

In the end, it turned out that my cable modem (not the router or my settings) was causing the dropped matches on Xbox Live. EVERY person I spoke/emailed/posted to at xbox, bungie, and Comcast (even myself and my brother) thought that wasn't possible because the modem worked perfect for my computers an was hitting incredible upload & download speeds when we tested it; but when I replaced my Motorola Surfboard modem with a Scientific Atlanta modem the problem stopped and I haven't dropped a match since (and I'm running 5 computers, a PS3 and 3 Xbox 360's simultaneously).

I know other people with the same modem who have never had a problem with it, so maybe it was the specific model # I had, or Comcast, or a combination of things, who knows. Regardless, if you've tried everything else, swap your modem.

If you are having trouble with your NAT, consider checking on the website of the people that make your router. check out how to do Port Forwarding for your router (type "Port Forward xbox 360 [name of your router]" into Google, you should find some answers. You can also check how to enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play). if all that fails, call tech suport for your router. Some guy from india will walk you though setting your settings to Open.

If your router settings keep changing, there is a chance you have faulty hardware that needs to be replaced. also if your wireless connection is not secured, people in your neighborhood may be changing your settings.
