Well, I started this story before I knew anything about the storyline to Halo 2, I read the first two books, but I wrote it before I even read "First Strike". Which was stupid, so I gave up on the story, cause I was afriad of putting the story of Halo to shame... but I decided to post what I had just to see what everyone thought of it... I wanted to take the risk... bring on the critism... ~sighs~
PROLOGUE
0900 Hours, September 29, 2558 (Military Calendar)/ Somewhere on Earth
Year 2558, after years and years of war with the Marines, the Covenant finally succeeded in taking over planet Earth. They have been using the planet as an energy source which they live by, and forced the human civilization into slavery. The marines still exist, but in very few numbers. Some people have been able to rebel against the Covenant, but are usually later on captured and slaughtered. The ODST still exists too, helping people in need and killing the Covenant in massive numbers, but even they get tired, many have died, its rare to see a healthy ODST around. Many say that there is another planet that the military have kept secret, but that’s seems to be just a rumor… If there was, why aren’t they helping fight the Covenant?…
Only one person still exists that has a chance to stop the Covenant, Master Chief, the hero of the Halo incident, and the first strike of the Covenant on Earth… but the Covenant became too strong, they eventually overpowered him and forced him into hiding. Until now… This cyborg hero, the last remaining Spartan, long forgotten to many, has learned of a map hidden in the first Halo, of another Halo location, known only by Master Chief, and the Covenant Gods… the Prophets. There was never another sign of Master Chief after the second strike on Earth, until he appeared in the Prophets Sanctuary and almost destroyed one of the legendary Covenant Gods. Normally he wouldn’t have exposed himself but he heard the Prophet talking about an ancient map, one of the location of Halo… “but why would they look for that?… the Halo was blown to oblivion…” Master Chief thought to himself. He listened in closer… The Prophet was talking about other quadrants of the universe Master Chief had never heard of before, and that the map lies in the ruins of the first Halo, near where the control center was located.
He couldn’t take anymore nonsense, he heard all he needed to hear. Master Chief quickly loaded his gun and snuck up behind the Prophet, quietly pointing the gun toward the back of the Prophets head, and began to gently pull the trigger. Until a Covenant Elite Body Guard spotted him behind the Prophet. The Prophet turned around in rage, but it was too late, Master Chief had already pulled the trigger, hitting the Prophet in the side of the head, splattering its brains across the room, and blinding the Elite Guard with the Prophets splattered blood.
Master Chief quickly dashed toward the Covenant Ghost and hopped on, slamming on the gas and running over the Elite Guard, breaking his neck and killing him. Three other Elite Guards come out of nowhere, shooting their plasma rifles at Master Chief, but their guns weren’t very affective against the Ghost. They ran after him, but they were too slow. Breaking through the Sanctuary doors to the outside wasteland of what he used to call home, Master Chief quickly returned to his personal ship and took off before the Elite Guards could catch up with him. The only thing that was going through his mind is that this is the chance to save Humanity from extinction, by finding this Halo, and relocating what’s left of the human race… This is where our story begins…
CHAPTER I
THE MISSION
0945 Hours, September 29, 2558 (Military Calendar)/ Master Chiefs Private Ship
“Welcome Back Chief” a smooth female voice said. “Thanks Cortana, get us out of this place now, fly to Sector Z-04 and get the UNSC on the COM Channel, I need to report what I just found. John said sternly. “Will do… but can I ask you something Chief?… what is it that you found?” Cortana said, sounding confused for once. “Well, with this new Covenant transcript software Dr. Halsey installed in my armor, I was able to translate some of the Prophets conversations with one of the Elites. It sounded as if they were talking about another Halo and that they were to gather a team of Special Ops Elites and search the ruins of the Silent Cartographer on the old Halo for a map, not one of the control room that we had found, one hidden much deeper inside, a map of the location of the next ring world… the next Halo…” John said, looking down at his helmet he had taken off, staring deeply at the mirrored visor. “Cortana, you know what to do, tell me when we reach sector Z-04, I need to talk to the UNSC. You know what our next mission is.” Cortana’s facial image changed, to almost a evil smirk, one she always got when she knew the mission would be fun. “You got it Master Chief.”
John sat his helmet on the bench down the hallway from the control room. The hallway was tinged a red color from the lights, not too bright, but just enough to where he could see. He liked it dark, it calmed him somewhat during stressful times. He sat down quietly on the bench as he let his thoughts take over. The images of his old friends flooded his mind, Kelly and Sam were the only people he considered his real family, they were always there for him.
Sam sacrificed himself bravely to save him and Kelly… and Kelly, went down with Reach, sacrificing herself for mankind. He thought of all the people that had died from the damned Covenant onslaught, and the family of those marines who would never know what happened to their loved ones, probably only to be later on slaughtered themselves. John felt a pulse of anger drive through his veins as he tightly clenched his fist. He thought to himself. “I will win this war, no matter what it takes!”
“Master Chief, we’re here” Cortana’s voice announced over the ships speaker. “Thanks Cortana” John replied. John’s HUD display flashed as he opened a COM Channel. “Admiral Cordell Sir! I have something to report Sir!” John saluted even though he couldn’t be seen. It was a habit of his when talking to a superior. “It turns out that there is another Halo out there Sir, the damned Covenant Prophets are assembling a Special Ops Team of Elites and they are headed to find the map to the location. Back in the Silent Cartographer there was a map that we must’ve passed up in the travels there. The Prophet said it was much deeper then had been traveled though. I didn’t understand much after that, our transcript software isn’t good enough to make positive translations of the Covenant speech Sir, Permission to find the map, locate the Halo, and kick some Covenant ass Sir?!” John said with the sound of vengeance in his voice. “Permission Granted Master Chief! The fate of humanity rest on your shoulders soldier, this Halo may be the key to saving the human race.” Admiral Cordell said. “Exactly my thoughts sir” John said with a smirk. “Spartan 117 out, Sir.”
“Cortana, get us to the ruins of the Silent Cartographer, bring the thrusters to one hundred thirty percent and ready the MAC guns just case we run into trouble, I want to jump to Slipspace in 5 minutes, get to the closest random coordinates to the Silent Cartographer.” John said. “Already on it Chief.” Cortana said sounding mused. The ship jolted a bit as the thrusters pushed forward, Master Chief grabbed the side railing until the gravity stopped pulling. He looked around his ship, then stopped to look at the holographic image on the pedestal. He thought of all the times Cortana has pulled through for him, and how much she has helped him on all his missions, he would probably be dead if it wasn’t for her. He couldn’t imagine how bad off he would be without her. The goal was to not let the Covenant find her and take her, so they couldn’t learn the locating of planet Earth… but that was too late. Though Master Chief still thought of it as a mission deep inside. He would die before letting the damned Covenant take her and use her for their research.
“Master Chief, we should arrive around the location in six hours. I suggest you rest until we get there, I will notify you 15 minutes prior to landing.” Cortana offered. “Thanks Cortana, I think I’ll need all the rest I can get for this mission. I just hope we get there before the Special Ops Elites arrive. We need to find that map before they do, no telling what will be on the other Halo, it could be swarming in Flood like the last one for all we know. Hell, it could be a whole new race… hopefully they will be on our side.” John sighed heavily. “I’m sick of this war, we need to end it somehow, I’ll do whatever it takes to make that work.” “Master Chief, we will save humanity, you can count on that, now go get rest, I don’t want to be taken and you killed cause of you being a lazy ass.” Cortana said with a laugh..
