Could it be that the rings of death are a sinister marketing scam by microsoft to force loyal HALO player's to give in and buy new XBOX's? No way you say! Think about it ....."the ring's" came just in time for Halo 3. Microsoft pre warned you about the "Flashing Rings of Death" then extended the warrenty for 3 years to cover their tracks. With a 3-4 week waiting period and the release of HALO 3 ( with a pre order of 140million+coppies) a broken xbox that you can't play, that's a canvas for 1,000,000 (or more) ancious frustrated ticked off men women and children all drooling over a game they patiently waited 2 and a half year's for, and can't play, the option of getting a new Xbox (with the price cut) isn't untangible. Amd all because of the selfishness of a couple of marketing executives that are ripping off loyal honest consumer's. Personally I think it's wrong and if you investigate this you will see what I couldn't write about out of fear of loosing my job. It's a shame how these companies use their very customer's as fall guy's in case their product is faulty. And I think that if we ALL jamm Microsoft with law suit's and expose this horrid mistreatment of million's of loyal fan's, they will continue to provide horrible costumer service. I mean can you understand any one of the costomer service reps? It's as if they just FORCE those people in india to answer the phone and pretend to be in the U.S. However, this valuable info will be just ignored.... but for those of you who know that what I'm saying is in fact the truth...... should take action. How? Remember Microsoft and Bungie are just companies selling a product that We have to buy..... We have to breath down their neck's a little to see that this kind of thing never happen's again. If We don't stand now..... We will surely fall for the rest of the scam's that are to come. Remember the costumer is always RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The three red indicators in the first, third, and forth quadrants (commonly known as the Red Ring of Death, RRoD, or the three red rings) are evident of a "general hardware failure". The the vast majority of cases, this is a result of solder joints between the CPU, GPU and/or system memory after repeated heating/cooling periods, in where the over-tension of the x-brackets, which hold the CPU and GPU heat sinks tight against the component, warps and bends the board slightly, creating enough tension to break or sperate the pre-mentioned connections, which already have softened from the heat generated.

The problem described is not a "marketing scam", but a simple design flaw, where excess heat and tension combines in a synergistic effect, which, ultimately, disable the console.
