The poor moderators are torn right now, with the exception of Reiginko, and possibly Sigma, the ability to play Halo 2, or moderate these forums.

Coupled with the influx of new members that can't seem to read proper english, (I've seen more posts locked here in the last 2 weeks alone, than have been locked in this forum for almost a year). I don't know -- but if Achronos is reading this, maybe it's time for a reworking after all. I know it's a buttload of work, but we seriously need something like the Karma system at RvB Forums. This would help to alleviate some of the strain on the moderators, and would possibly cut down on Flaming for two reasons; #1 you would be able to give "negative" points to posters providing a more responsible action than a flame, and #2 you would worry about those negative points so wouldn't be as likely to flame.

Bah. Ignore me. It's just my particular way of griping.

I used to be able to hang out in The Septagon and the Underground all the time. Now I pretty much stay in my group. I cannot come into the forums often anymore -- the rampant idiocy frightens me.

I'm not familiar with RvB's system but I can imagine how it works, sort of Ebay-ish, no?

Anywho, I pitty the mods, with all the strains put on them. It is funny though, to note that they interact with the members on a friendly way in The Septagon and The Flood for instance, but in New Mombasa they are very harsh. Especially Shishka. And don't get me wrong, I completely understand that!

Or maybe more moderators could be appointed? I don't know, I guess it's ultimately Bungie's decision. GameJunkieJim, could you give a little more info on that Karma system? Or give a link to information about it? I would like to know more about that, so I can better understand what you're talking about.

I've been wondering why dudes like Sketch and Frankie for instance, have no Ninja powers?

Because there are no bald ninjas. Frankly, I think they just need a couple of new moderators.

That's funny, I thought they did. Maybe they just don't have time to moderate the forums.

Couldn't Frankie take a marker and draw hair on his head?

No, because it would detract from his sexy, macho-man image.

Long story short...

I'm not asking for Sketch or Frankie to be on here all the time (who would want Frankie on here all the time?) but as long as Bungie employees drop by, they might as well lock every other post in New Mombasa and then some in other forums.

And mature isn't a word that applies to the avarage forum visitor :-)

Ad Spamming is even starting to grow in other groups. Espicially the Bungie runned ones like The Marty Army and CFounders. Heck I just got done locking some threads there and I decided to have a little fun with locking to help relive the stress. See below.

Posted by: Some Spammer who lost his Ad thread.
I am sorry that I compleetly forgot to read the ruels about advertisment posting and what this forum is about. I deeply regret spamming this forum with needless pleas for someone who isn't really interested to join my clan. I most definatly regret that this thread will have to be locked because of my inability to follow simple ruels.

The employees have the powers, I've actually seen Blondebeard lock a thread!

And the system works kind of like a scale from -3 to +3 with everyone reading the thread voting on it. Your vote seems to have more weight if you has more positive feedback, I.E. You can spend points to do things, up to and including stickying threads automatically if enough points are spent on it. Threads which earn more positive points earns you more Karma to spend on others threads (or your own) and threads which earn negative points take Karma away.
You would only be able to post if you had at least 1 point of Karma, and you got one free point a week. But it's retroactive with bad behavior, for instance if you somehow flamed and got -3 karma points, you wouldn't be able to post for 3 weeks. The worse you act, the worse your built in penalty. It would ease the burden on the Moderators considerably. But it would take so long to implement...

We're currently tossing some ideas around HFCS, so watch this space. And I'm sure that the bungie.net team would be happy to read any other suggestions you may have.

I'm not very familiar with this, but...

Wouldn't that system be abused? I mean, what if a bunch of newer users all spent their karma on a good poster who was simply trying to help out?

It does have the potential for early abuse -- but newer users wouldn't have the Karma of say, people that have established rep.

And the moderators would have say an infinite karma pool to spend on the better posts -- in effect negating the negative karma spent by bad users (wasting it for them) I don't know really the technical aspects of things like this, so I make no assumptions that it would be easy. So maybe a limit -- that you have to post in that thread to spend karma - or other similar stipulations.

Many of the newer posters (By your concern I'm reading, flamers, or troublemakers) shouldn't have the karmic resources to cause a huge problem with it.

And the good ones eventually find their way through. Aleph and Tanikaze are examples. These people would eventually balance out the postings, and, simply put, the flamers and spammers simply wouldn't have the resources to countermand the good posts for long.

Especially if you got bonus Karma for things like Sticky Worthy threads, and a bonus Karma point for every 25 points spent on your thread.

Like I said -- I'm an idiot. I have no idea how complicated this is internally, but I imagine it's extremely.

But, I can see many many problems solved with this (or a similar) system.

I have another suggestion. I allready pm-ed Achronos about it but he didn't reply. Maybe because the tone of my message was somewhat angry (not towards him) but I was angry at the time I wrote it.

Okie, here goes:

I would really like to see that words such as -blam!- and -blam!- get -blam!-ed.

It ticks me of to see some underaged kid use these words to express there dislike about something.

I hope you at Bungie will consider this. Anywho, thank you for your time.

Yeah, but "-blam!-" can be used to express joy, and "-blam!-" is a perfectly good word for cigarette.

But who would use '-blam!-' to express his joy anyway? "Yo peeps! I'm sooo -blam!-, I found a skull!" After the flames he'd to endure, he wouldn't be '-blam!-' anymore.

-blam!- can never be Blammed after stosh's quoteworthy mumblecluster "Don't be use -blam!-"
