I am not pointing my finger at anyone as I clearly stated in my first post; I am simply trying to find answers. It appears as though neither one of you has even taken the time to really read what, just about all of the people who are experiencing DRE's with Halo 3, are even saying. We do not think it is a problem with the discs themselves. Below is my experience up to this point and mine alone. The severity of the DRE's and it's side effects vary from person to person. The one constant with all of us is, we are receiving DRE's with Halo 3. All I ask is that you hear me out and try to put yourself in our position...
My 360 worked completely fine until I put Halo 3 in for the first time. When I initially tried to play the game, I was notified that an update was needed in order to play Halo 3. Now, that didn't really leave me with much of a choice if I ever wanted to play the game that was the sole reason why I bought a 360. I DL'd the update and my console rebooted. To me, it did not seem as though it ran as long as past updates have but, I was not purposely timing it so I could not say for sure. So the '3' splash screen loads up and immdeiately I receive my first DRE. A couple of times, I got a message in about 8 different languages on a white screen with a message similar to 'To play this disc, put it in a 360 console'. I thought that was extremely odd since I had never received any DRE's (or any other errors like those) before.
Out of curiosity, I tried some of my other games that I knew always played perfectly fine for me. What I found puzzled me; Rainbow Six Vegas - audio suddenly cuts out now, Tiger Woods 07 - tries to load the main menu but locks up every time once two circles are filled in the progress bar, Dead Rising - sits at a completely black screen and does not even load the Capcom splash screen. Immediately I thought it may have to do with the update and tried to sign in to Xbox Live to see there was any way I could try to download it again. To my surprise, I now receieved a message stating that it could not connect. I look at xbox.com and notice that the servers are experiencing slow times due to heavy traffic. I called Xbox support and was on the phone with them for over 2 hours. We tried numerous possible fixes only to find none of them worked.
The next day, I exchanged my copy of Halo 3 for a brand new one and hoped for the best. I loaded the game and was thrilled once I was able to get to the main menu. I started up a campaign, watched the first few cut scenes then quickly experienced another DRE. There is not a single scratch, mark, speck of dust or imperfection anywhere on this disc that I can see, and I've inspected it thouroughly numerous times. The DRE problems I am experiencing now are not limited just to the Halo 3 disc. As I mentioned, my console no longer plays the majority of my games (that used to play perfectly fine) like it should anymore. I also tried to play a downloaded demo version of NHL2K7 with no disc even in the tray. To my utter disbelief, I received a DRE immediately after the NHLPA splash screen; a DRE telling me to clean the disc with a soft cloth for a demo that was running directly off of my HD.
Now, ask yourself a couple of questions...
Seeing that these DRE issues seem to have all emerged at roughly the same time, is it possible something that has to do with Halo 3 caused all of these issues?
Is it likely that there is much more to this than a simple batch of bad discs?
If either MS or Bungie was ABSOLUTELY sure they were not responsible in any way, shape or form for the DRE's so many people are experiencing, don't you think they would have released some form of statement/acknowledgement by now so as to clear their name as soon as possible?
Taking all of this into consideration (especially the last question), is it really that far fetched that we are looking for answers on this forum as well as in the Xbox forum?
What update? I didn't get one and I still get DRE's.
