Now, to put an end to all your dreams about a Halo movie, I will post this little bit of information. First, Bungie would have to sell the rights to the Halo story away to some movie company which would then take the story and twist it to fit into some movie atmosphere. Then they would pass it to a director, who would then destroy the story by placing what he wants in it. The producers of it would also change it to how they see fit, not understanding how the Halo universe works. By this time, Bungie and Microsoft have no say in how the movie it to be made. The movie is then made, it fails, and yet another great game falls into hell.
For those who say Bungie should pick the director, or make it themselves, read the production notes on Shrek, and see how long that took. Bungie is not a movie studio, they don't have the money, or the resources to do something like that. Also, to say Halo could ever be on par with Lord of the Rings is just silly and foolish. The Lord of the Rings, story is about thirty or forty times more detailed than Halo, and the director of that movie was a total, utter, lord of the rings fanatic. Even so, he changes some things, some very noticable things, like Elves at Helm's Deep.
