I challenge anyone who can tell me the story before halo or any of the books, if your story is better than mine, then i congradulate you, ( and im pretty hard to please)

Ok so here goes...

The story before halo is about 100,000 years ago, the forerunners and the covenant have lived perfect allies, they shared technology with each other and have helped each other in battle, when the covenant had started building giant warships in case of any chance of war, the forunners had to build something to upstage it, so they built their last resort: Halo. when halo was built, the covenant began to get jealous of the forerunners power, so they decided to take it for themselves, and they did. Outraged at this betrayal, the forunners decided that their halo needed protection from invasion, so they created the flood. The flood worked perfectly at protecting the installation, but they were too chaotic, damaging any forerunners that dare get too close. so the forerunners decided to create something to manage the flood. and they created sentients like 343 Guilty Spark and 2401 Penitent Tangent. one for each of the seven installations they created. when the covenant learned of the forerunners creations, they investigated and found the flood and took this as an act of the upmost betrayal, sending troops to kill their kind, so the covenant became sworn enemies with the forerunners and war had raged for hundred of thousands of years before the covenant killed the last of the forerunner race. the covenant then decided to take halo for themselves and learned falsely of its power from the sentient's tellings. they decided to keep the halos until their absolute last resort. then the covenant decided to make the entire galaxy their own because of this power increase. and they ran across the humans and then the first book of halo goes on from there.

THE END!
(beat that!)

The Covenant didn't know the Forerunners, as far as I can tell. Besides, they(The Covenant) worship them(The Forerunners). It doesn't make sense.

I'm sorry to tell you and I am not trying to "flame" you, just some constructive criticism...

1.) It's poorly written. Too many run on sentences and not enough visulation, of course this a forum post and not application to pulitzer; this can be overlooked.

2.) There are too many gaps in your story line...

If this were at all true, the forerunners, in the eyes of the covenant, would not be Gods of Savior, they would be the devil or something of that aspect.

The flood was not there to protect the rings, they were an experiment kept there in a secure environment to prevent escape and the monitors like 343 guilty spark were the caretakers. Of both the ring and the flood...

You say that covenant wiped out the forerunners after nearly a hundred thousand years of war, in which they created their own ships. If you would had paid more closely to the books, if you read them, which are officially sanctioned by bungie to portray as much of the real story as possible; you would know the covenant replicate technology, they do not invent the technology.

And if they knew where these rings were and were fighting around, amongst and for these rings, they wouldn't all of a sudden forget where they were and start searching for them again.

So please if you are going to challenge someone to create a better story than yourself, it would be best that you write at least a factual story if not an entertaining one.

So you want a story?? Ok, I have about 20 minutes until I have my next smoke break and go home...

First off, the forerunners were like us, curious and always expanding thinking up new ideas and creating what they thought was best for their civilization. They were one of the first races in this part of the universe to have achieved space flight and their level of advanced technology, actually the only ones...

They have studied hundreds of planets, traveled hundreds of thousands of light years and found nothing. Of course, even an intellectually advanced race becomes bored and needs to know the anwser to every sentient beings question, where did we come from. They studied these worlds with massive rings hovering over them to watch and see how these planets formed liife, after a thousand years of watching and waiting and seeing that no sentient life was to come from any of these planets, they tried to make their own. They prepared for the worst possibilities of which they began their studies on... Xenoform viral infectious matter.

They realized that it would take millions of years to create a new, sentient, race. So they created these xenoforms that took over small rodents and other non-sentient life, they saw that it merely killed these animals as food and were not evolving. They began to introduce some of their own DNA, the very blueprints of the most advanced sentient life in the galaxy... and it took! These forms began to understand their life cycle, that there was in fact death for them and that they were created by these things...

Obviously, as any sentient being would be, as these xenoforms had become, they were pissed at the fact they were created, held captive only to be studied and dissected then discarded as waste. They went after their captors as only a virus would know how. They ate, consumed, infected and became more deadly with each passing moment. The forerunners had thought of the possibility that this virus would be harmful to themselves and within the rings, setup the defensive measure to make sure that no-one would leave the ring while infected.

Of course, the forerunners being as advanced as they were, they easily dealt with the flood at first, but the flood continually grew and infected the forerunners. The flood after a a few years of hiding as virus's do and now being sentient, were even more deadly, because now they were methodical in their destruction. Taking this area, to take this ship, to get here so they can do what all virus's do... Spread!

The forerunners soon realized the doom and peril they had put themselves in and realized that if the flood were to become loose in the universe no sentient life would ever again exist. So in their final stands they devised a way to combine the strength of each Halo to kill make their galaxy void of all sentient life to include that of the sentient flood, all that would be left would be the viral infections themselves.

But before, they would destroy themselves they would try to make sure that civilization lived on, that others would survive and in them they would as well... so they sent away two arks. One to each side of the galaxy, each containing their a part of their DNA. One contained the knowledge of their technology and innovation, the other containing thier ability to find what once was, these forms would turn into Human and Covenant....

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/ -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Of course this is just a story, but at least it sticks to the facts we know, and then you will ask but the Halo's destroy all sentient life.. yeah but it doesn't destroy dna, and yes the flood that would have been on the ships would have been sentient, bugs and virus's don't pilot things... and I would put more in here but I am trying as hard as possible not ruin the game for people that haven't played yet because you know that you are still not allowed to post spoilers, all information herein is just speculation based on halo 1 and the 3 books.

oh and by the way...

Beat YA!

Who else agrees, let us know.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Wasn't that great... I could probably write a better one if I felt like it. Which I don't. So, since I haven't done anything better, I won't say anymore to discount your story.

EDIT: Not to the person above me. To the origional post.

u took the words out of my mouth... except also the sentinels & 343 etc. werent sentients. sentient life forms r like us elites, brutes, grunts, etc. & the forerunners died because they activated halo not because the covies killed them

Halo 2 specifically told us the Forerunner used the rings, thereby destroying themselves. Besides being wrong and arrogant, your story had too many run-ons and didn't have a nice flow to it. Nice try, though.

They aren't accurate for the most part, have you read the books? if not then perhaps you should. Would help you on the accuracy part.
