I have tried everything with the game settings, i went to the microsoft page for detailed information on halo for pc problems, nothing worked. My graphic card is 256MB Geforce FX 5700 LE. Is the problem with the IRQ of the graphic card?My IRQ is 16 and there are more things on my computer using the same IRQ. What may and may not have the same IRQ on my computer??

Heyyo,

Nah, I don't think it's that. What you need to do is remove any traces of old videocard drivers, and then restart your comp, download the latest nvidia drivers (something like forceware 57.something-something...) and install those, restart comp again, then try out halo again. ;)

I'm sure that's your prob cause your videocard drivers can't tell that you got a new videocard, so they're still trying to act like your previous videocard, so nuke those and put on fresh ones and the new drivers will detect the new videocard. ;)

My graphic card says that there are no conflicts. So i dont think it has anything to do with the old drivers.

Heyyo,

Ugh, you diddn't read what I said: YOUR VIDEOCARD DRIVERS CAN'T TELL IF THE VIDEOCARD CHANGED, YOU HAVE TO REINSTALL THEM. THAT'S WHY IT THINKS THERE'S NO CONFLICT, ALL IT CARES IS ANY VIDEOCARD IS IN THE SAME SLOT AS BEFORE.

If you don't do that? not my problem, I tried to help ya...

yeah. TURN UP THE GRAPHICS (hint: it's in the settings menu somewhere)

MaRd: but.... if you have old drivers installed (trust me, i tried this like 3 days ago) windows freezez, giving you a black screen, sometimes with your pointer (unmovable), sometimes without

Heyyo,

Yeah, sometimes the old drivers makes windows crash, sometimes it doesn't, it's all aboot luck sometimes. ;)

Ahh, Madsam, the LE series stands for Limited Edition, by Limited, it means preformance-wise. I belive that's like, the lower-end versions of the FX5700 line, so that could be a cause. Now, does it run bad all the time, or just during fights? cause The FX series seems to handle the particle effects a bit better than the ATI cards... Usually it's that goddamn flashlight that kills the NV videocards. So turn off flashlights, put the PS to v1.4 by adding this to a halopc shortcut in the target line at the end: -use14

Ok, here's something to do madsam, create a haloPC shortcut, and add this to the target line:

-use14 -novideo -nogamepad -timedemo

That'll run a benchmark, post the results here. (I don't believe in turning off the sound during benchmarks, cause that makes them less accurate when trying to figure out how well the comp OVERALL preforms, turning off sound just benchmarks graphics and processing power... if you wanna turn off sound anywho, add this: -nosound )

that should give you a few frames back, with like, no visual quality loss. :)

Well the only times the game acts slow, is when im in big firefights with alot of particles but thats relatively ok compared too the time when I use the flashlight(as you mentioned). The game acts also really slow when im in the covenants' spaceship ,(you know, like in the third mission for example).Thats because of the detailed floors and walls of the spaceship inside which reflect light etc(this only happens if I enable specter in the settings). But i mean i bought the graphic card so that i could play normally with this game, and i didnt want it too be slow.I'll try out your suggestions though. OO yeah I use in the shortcut -nojoystick because that makes the game apperently a bit faster as it doesnt has too search for joystick ports or whatever. Is it true that the best graphic card sueted for halo pc is a radeon card? Thanks for the help.

Heyyo,

Madsam? I'll let benchmarks speak for themselves. ;)

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-0 9.ht ml

As you can see, ATI comes out ontop. Heck, my videocard (ATI Radeon 9600 PRO) whups the FX5600 Ultra which's supposte'd to be Nvidia's equivalent videocard by over 7F/S.

ATI cards handle the geometry, the textures, shadows, the bumpmapping, the specular lighting better than Nvidia cards on this game. Nvidia does get the upper hand in particle effects, but only by like 4F/S tops. So I'm more likely to get more video-lag out in fights than you,

So that covenant ship? it has: Bumpmapping, specular lighting. And those 2 SLAUGHTER Nvidia cards. Interesting since the game (after being bought out by M$) was designed for a nvidia-powered system only eh?

Turn off specular lighting, and shadows. Specular lgihting does look a lot nicer, but the incomplete job Gearbox did with HaloPC really saps the life outta the game with specular lighting. You need like a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO to use that without the game dying....

Thanks for the usefull information the mard.Don't you think there are patches( without BUGS) made by gearbox to make halo faster, because thats quite usefull for many people.
PS:I hope gearbox peforms better when they are going to program halo 2 for pc!!!!!!!

Heyyo,

Heh, careful dude, don't double post eh? :p

Anywho, the older patches of halo improved preformance by a few frames, like 10F/S on my computer... Nothin' major, but at least that's somethin'... the newer patches are focused on sercuirty fixes and not what we need soo dearly: netcode and gameplay fixes, and preferrably further optimizations... fake client support would be great, but I doupt that'll happen (you need fake client support for true multiplayer bots)....

Lol, yeah, so far these new patches havn't made anything truly useful. Sure, security fixes are nice, but there's even more problems that need fixes quickly, and badly..

Howdy Mard and Madsam,
I'm using an ATI 9800 Pro and when I zoom in with the sniper scope it's way less clear than the GForce vidio card on my wife's computer...

I'm running 1 Gig Twin Channel Ram and AMD 2800XP +

Should be cooking. I have two monitors running a BenQ 23"LCD and 19" Samsung - have tried individually and running together, at low res and high res (1900x1260 monitor plays 1600x1200 in Halo)

What can I do to fix Scope graphics? And if you know, make the game play faster.

Thanks
