Ok so listen i know i have a good enough connection to play online games including MMO's and 3 game consoles online at once with out any noticable lag. I have even gone as far as to plug my modem directly into the Xbox. Now why is it that i am getting little to no upload from the halo 3 servers????
This is a serious problem, i will die 12 times and only spawn once...I do not pay for Xbox live for this and i sure as hell didnt buy halo 3 to have this problem. Now i have done all the BS your going to throw at me, i am not a noob this is server side problem, and its screwing me. I should not spawn and die from nothing. What is the situation here???? Its starting to really aggrivate me. Iv'e sent e-mails and even called. No replies from anything im starting to think you dont care. I mean not for nothing Socom the worlds worst online game because of glitchers and coders has better servers that the multi million selling hit HALO 3 seriously? Now that has to be a reason behind the server problems i mean this is so annoying to have waited forever to get halo 3 and now its pretty much unplayable. I know im not the only one seeing this either i see people with tremendous lag and others with perfect connections who i know for a fact donot have a connection as good as mine. I push 5mgs - 10mgs of bandwidth on the download. Now i dont know wtf is going but i would really like to know i would also like to know when it going to be acknowledged that i pay for servers that operate properly. Now if i seem pissed off to you, then your right i am pissed off. Pissed i paid $130 for an online game i cant play because you have set up choppy servers with a recording feature that has no real purpose other than hogging bandwidth, on a better note i have video footage of this server -blam!- up hardcore for no reason. Now i mean no disrespect but seriously could i get some help here or what? I have everything set to your spec's and have enough bandwidth to play the game but im not getting anything but laggy -blam!- from the server. Mind you i can talk on my xbox to people no lag play gears of war no lag play graw no lag. So seriously wtf is going on.

Not sure why, btu I have the same problem. i even plugged the xbox directly into the modem and still get randomly disconnected every other game and have pretty much quit given up on multiplayer at this point because for every exp I get, i lose it the next game due to disconnecting.

i know it's not my fault, i've ran speed tests when I reconnect the cable back to the computer, as well as other tests and everything looks fine.

Oh buddy, believe me, you're not the only one. I'm gettin to the point where I don't even want to sign on to the multi player cause I know that eventually the lag is going to get ridiculously bad.

I did not pay $60 for Live and $60 for Halo 3 to have such a horrible online experience. Ok, we know Halo 3 was an upgrade from 2, but was the online services upgraded as well?

I went direct myself and if my modem which supports 5pc's 4ps2's xbox and xbox 360 online without much but a hint of lag here an there cant support halo 3 then wtf kind of internet do alot of these people have???? I mean seriously i spawn at beginning of game die by nothing then sit at scoreboard til mid game spawn again then i get like 30seconds of good play. I mean i know i dont got 10mgs constant or the greatest internet but wtf. Personally i am an online FPS addict i love it and halo is great i love the game but come on by preorders alone they should have had this -blam!- worked out and ready for opening day, and even if they couldnt the problem could have and should have been fixed by now. I mean you'd think that 1 person is doing all the work for how slow the progress is moving. This is not right and server side issues need to be fixed immediately BUNGIE had there checkbooks filled because of all of us buying halo 3 we deserve to get a good game online and off. Ontop of all this i cant even do gamebattles because if i was to i would get banned permanetly from the site for "Cheating" because of the massive lag. one million or 10 people online it should not look like this, Bungie staff you knew what was coming you had time to prepare and have had time to review and fix the latency problems. Instead nothing has changed except Kill to death and ranks are being destroyed. Seriously how is it i can spawn 3 times but at end of game i have 14 deaths.

Thats the thing were not all connecting to one server. There are several servers running together obviously but i mean i know alot of people personally that are having this issue and even people who dont have it 100% of the time have seen it and go man endo ur a saint for not smashing ur 360 cuz the lag is sooo bad. Im honestly glad your having a good game expierence u deserve it, but so do i and the many others who do have this latency issue.

I felt that I needed to edit this message. I don't want to bad mouth Bungie/Microsoft just yet. Although I have been hacked and "Standbyed" for years, I actually can't say for sure that this is true with Halo 3 yet. I have had a horrible connection for the last 3 days but I was recently informed that a huge email campaign was being sent out on my T1 connection(3 days ago) and that is most likely the reason for my latency. Kinda funny how most things tend to be explainable, better go check your cables.....I'll post more when I figure this out.

There are no servers that run Halo. The sheer volume of information being sent makes dedicated servers impractical. The host is actually a player's xbox. Which xbox is used is determined by the system based on which player has the best and most reliable connection. As more and more games are played, data is collected that helps the system figure out who makes a good host and who doesn't. The problem at the moment is that the system has only been running for a very short amount of time, so it does not have much data to go off of, and it makes some bad decisions.

There may be some other issues going on as well that I would have no idea about. But I would just wait a while. If there are other problems, I'm sure that the team is working on them. Everyone has to deal with some lag for a while.

To help, you might want to try staying in the more populated playlists. If there are more players available for a game, there is a better chanch of the system finding a good setup.

XBL is still (supposedly) working out whose connections are best suited to Halo 3 gameplay. It should settle down after a while; remember, there are approximately 1.5 million people playing H3 at any one time. That's a lot of connections.

No servers you say? Rank-kills-deaths-suicides all recorded collected and sent, Cheat blocking devices login servers and everything that goes along with this is hosted on one person xbox. Wrong the host takes on a portion of the load of everyone and makes it all simpler for the server to send out to everyone. Otherwise the little notification that blinks up and says Finding New Host wouldnt be there. If by theory there are no dedicated servers then how come game servers disappear like lets say old maddens there gone you cant get online even if you and your boy logged in same time? The fact is there are servers. Now the problem is whatever server i and probably everyone else with this problem connects through is not working properly right now.
Seriously now if every room i been is had a -blam!- host then wtf is going on here attack of the bs internet? I mean come on i have to shoot people who teleport and not an inch here and there more like they run in place then vanish, or even worse i just die no sound no person nothing just fall over dead. Basically tho my point is if my modem can run soo many thing on the internet just fine why in the world wouldnt it support a single xbox 360 with halo 3 in it, when every other game i play is just fine. Something is not right and i have done everything on my end to get any result to say its my side but nothing i mean it was exactly the same direct modem or through my lan. I even changed ethernet cables just to make sure it wasnt damage, both modem to router and router to xbox. I have even set the 360's port to priority done all spec's that bungie has said and have not even got a little progress. So seriously there is no possible way this is on my side.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Sorry endoflawless, but your understanding of the server/hosting system is somewhat misguided. I suggest you read One One Seven's Guide to Servers, Networking and Host.

I'm sorry you have networking problems, but they do take time to work out. The game is barely two weeks old. We've all had some networking issues -- I have too. You just have to wait for the problems to sort themselves before ranting on the forums. :)

personally i think your whole concept on how much the actual servers can effect the latency in a game is jaded halo 3 features constant recording, Cheat checks a search system to find games and statistics both server and character. Stop acting like some Tut gives u half a clue. I personally maintain 2 gaming servers one for World of Warcraft and one for GTA. Now seriously if you honestly think there is no servers for halo 3 and that they have no effect on our consoles then your so far gone you shouldnt have even replied. Its not better nothing is being remotely worked on. Its time for some maintenance asap. Also no servers would mean no game. The fact is everything has to pass through a server at some point, No matter what you think you know it does pass through a server. If it doesnt then why not use cheat devices? There is nothing stopping it cuz all games are hosted on an xbox. Oh wait thats right there is servers monitoring everything it just so happens that they dont have a core version of halo 3 running on them.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

So you come here looking for answers, the answers are given to you, you won't accept said answers and are now throwing what we like to call a temper tantrum.

Pretty decent thread summary if I say so my damn self.

Game data is fed back to Bungie's server farm, but whether this is done during the game or at the end of the game (not being a Bungie engineer, I wouldn't know), I can't imagine that this would affect your connection too much (consider for one how big a game video actually is).

The lag is caused by the host's connection, plain and simple. It's not something that either Bungie or Microsoft can actually fix, other than to let the system which decides who is the host do its job.

Anyway, this should've been posted on the Halo 3 board rather than here.
