I am curious to see if this is a widespread problem. I have GW FX530XT running VISTA ultimate, 1950Xfire, and Creative SB4 Xtreme Music. The sound absolutely refuses to play. If I disable the sound card and use the on-board HD Audio, it works fine. I have replaced the sound card and same problem. I recently read an article that seems to indicate that VISTA has completely changed the way they use sound and for all pratical purposes made the SB cards obsolete because of the way they handle audio requests. Has any one else experienced this issue? DId you find a work around? Creative certainly hasn't put out updated drivers in months, so there might be something to this. The sound card seems to work with low intensity applicaitons, but not in HAlo 2 or Frozen Planet.

I think Vista only has support for integrated sound cards. Although that may have been changed as far as I know. But hey, if the on-board sound works fine, why are you having kittens over it?

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Vista works for most Sound Blaster cards. In fact it has native support, you don't even need drivers to install them.

I've never seen the SB 4 Xtreme Music, and Google returns nothing so I can only assume that's an old card. In which case you should stick with on-board audio.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

My Sound Blaster Live sounded blaring and distorted so I had to use the on-board Realtek AC'97 sound chip.
