Forget killing the prophets. Yeah I know they send their underlings and order the genocide of trillions of our people, but that #@$%@^* 353 Guilty Spark must die. He abducted MC to help him outh then betrayed him into haveing him kill everything that has life. 353 Guilty Spark is the one we need to kill. 353 GUILTY SPARK MUST DIE!!!!!!

OK! first off, i think it would be freaking sweet to cruise around in a prophets hover chair. secondly, the prophets have some sort of telekenisis which they use, which is demonstrated in First Strike in the last chapter where the prophet takes the orb filled with shards of the crystal from the brute with the powers. Thirdly, Why the F*** would a vicious race of aliens, that want nothing more than to see us all massacred, negotiate peace?

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

No, I think some of you are missing Hikaru's point. We are getting rammed up the @ss by the Covies. We are losing this war VERY badly. Our only hope is to negotiate some sort of peace. Now, the point of MC's mission before Reach was to capture a Prophet and FORCE it to make peace. Now, the mission itself is practically suicide. But, the UNSC cannot know that even if they succed that thier will be peace. So what that some Prophet made peace, he did so under coersion. The rest of the Covies might just write him off and continue with the war. Yet, even with all these failings and obvious possibilties, it is earth's only option. How do you expect us to win this war through force? We can't... some kind of miracle must take place in order for us to win. Now, perhaps this points us in the direction of the rumored Covie Civil War... or what purpose the new Halo Ring plays. Who knows though. We won't know until H2 comes out. Until then all is speculation.

I can't see how killing a Prophet will benefit us....as others have said all its going to do is right royally annoy the other Prophets and in doing so speed up the demise of humanity. As for winning the war eek, we've been forced back so far now we've got nothing left. We're beaten already, the Cove' have total space superiority and they are owning us. The war's all but over, we lost!
But then again, this all started over the Artifacts, so we do have a chance. The problem seems so far to be that humanity have been in the way of the Cove' obtaining the sacred items they want...what they plan on doing with them, what they do and all that...heck who knows. But they want them and they'll do anything for them....someone say pictures of Snow Warthog and rumours of the Earth Artifact under Antartica? Anyhow...if we're going to get any kind of peace off the Cove' then we're going to need to use the Artifacts as our barginning chip....we have nothing else. The Prophets want the Artifacts, we have a couple of them now....let the talks begin. Then again, will they bargin, or will they just go in more heavy handed and get the items. They won't use the planet busters till they get the artifact, but once they have it...we're so screwed.

Whoa you guys are talking about things that my small fragile mind cannot comprehend :)

Anyway, I'll have to agree with the "Peace" theory because as you guys stated we're really screwed and we all know that MC himself ain't gonna win a war against the entire Covenant army. Maybe on Easy mode perhaps but Legendary? Hell naw lol and since it's mentioned in the books that the Spartans were suppose to capture a Prophet and crap, I bet that's what's gonna end up happening. That's all that can end up happening, MC can't just go and blow up the Covenant homeworld!

And those who think it's ridiculous, think of it the same way as the Matrix Revolutions. The only way MC is gonna save Earth from annihilation is to go up to the Prophet dude and ask for "Peace" and hope they decide to let the humans live lol sorry but that's all he can do!

Another thing that humanity needs to do in order to end the war is to find out why the Covenant want them dead to begin with. Capturing a Prophet and interrogating him would ultimately reveal the source of the Covenant's hatred towards humanity. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it's somehow tied to both the Artifacts and Halo "2."

And where does the Flood come into play on this storyline? According to Bungie the Covenant have a long history with the Flood. Does the Flood have anything to do with the Covenant's hatred for humanity?

I'm not gonna guess anymore, all I can do is wait until November...

I don't think you can kill high prophets as the war would escalate and in a couple of days there would be no mankind. but bungie know a lot of you guys just want to go around pointlessly killing things so probably (with a big IF) minor prophets will be killable but i bet they have sheilds that a gold elite would die for and loads of cabable minions. as for peace, come on guys it is the only way to end this war, we can't win via the military. i think the flood will be a huge epidemic and effect flood space so the UNSC ally with the covenant because its a bigger threat to both races and a peace come about at the end, though reluctantly. that includes the flood, ends the story but leaves it open for a possible 2nd war and makes the peace possible rather than forced which the covenant wouldn't agree to anyway (plenty more prophets wanting the higher position)

SB-117

I think the halos will be a major factor in the war. Perhaps if they fire a halo at the covie homeworld the marines and earth might just win.

Call me crazy, but I'm almost voting for the Covenant... The flood breaking out and causing an epidemic is an interesting theory though. I'd love to see Covenant and UNSC working together in a battle. :D

That would never happen. Thats like FL00D ans sentinals working together. I'll think the humans would alied with the FL00D before alied with the covenant. Same goes for the Covenant.

The lower castes follow the word of the prophets. What makes you think the prophets wouldn't temporarily ally with the humans if the Flood got out of control? Or at least they would back off until the war with the flood was over. And the Flood wouldn't ally wouldn't ally with anyone, thats just weird.

I think you will be able to kill a prophet, but not be able to do so and still win the mission. It'll probably be much like Keyes in the original. You can kill him but mission over. Anyway as to what I think will happen. You will go to the main covie homeworld and capture a prophet. Upon interrogation you discover there is no chance for peace, even while you have the prophet captured. So you look for another option. On the trip to the covie homeworld you happen to notice another ring that seems quite close to all th covie homeworlds. So you may release the flood(not sure if they have to be released to set off the ring or not). Then you set off the ring while still on it. The ultimate sacrifice but the covies are gone and all humans are free to drink beer and eat ice cream and blah blah.

I myself have thought about a fragile human/covie alliance. But this is only due because of the Covie Civil War. SOMETHING is going to happen b/w the Brutes and Elites that are going to cause a major rift. I would not be surprised if the Elites then turn to the humans, (or vice versa), to form a temp. alliance in killing the Brutes and Prophets perhaps??

LEGENDARY IS challenging for some ... but ... I AM NOT LEGENDARY ... I AM A MYTH!!!

Of course! wat i read from Bungie itself, is that they are very weak(but protected by Elites!) someone said making peace? hav you ever seen the trailers of Halo2!? does it look lik they are there to mak fukng peace!? -blam!-... their religion is to wipe-out all human-beings for a sacrfize to their gods... plus, they are moslty only interested in artifacts of the Forerunner's objects, such as the ring wold "Halo." Cortana, Guilty Spark, and us Spartans are the only ones that kno's its secret...I bet those idiots are going to unleashe the Floods again wen the second Halo comes... well, yea after killing the Elites we be able kill Prophets(they will be few of them)

Does it look ilke they are making peace? Not when they area attacking us. You seem to forget we have yet to even see a Prophet, so until we do, the Covenant will continue their genocidal campaign to wipe us out. Peace is our only option...other than wiping everything out with the next Halo.

The whole goal of the Spartan II's mission before Reach was hit was to capture a Prophet, bring it back to UNSC controlled space and to attempt a peace treaty.
You people obviously don't get the fact that the UNSC is losing! BADLY! In 27 years we have won 5 space battles, which mind you are the important ones. We are down to so few colonies left. Maybe 2 dozen, which the Covenant can rip right through no problem. We need a peace treaty. Victory by force is not an option right now, there are so few of us left. We need that peace treaty or humanity goes extinct people. It isn't the nice brado ending we are all hoping for, but it is the best the UNSC can hope for right now, which is all that matters.

I have to disagree man. Halo is all about one guy doing the impossible with a little help. It would suck if after all this fighting we see a prophet and a human signing a peace treaty right before it says "The End", I would probably shoot my XBox with a 12 Ga. Hell no, they have to continue to fight no matter what. The mission to capture the Prophet was effectively scrapped, two full books were written after that mission went bad and nowhere did they ever again attept to capture a Prophet. Things changed. I think they should find another Halo ring (confirmed to be the case) and release the Flood onto the Covie homeworld(s) and destroy whatever is left from orbit after the Flood does some serious damage. That of coarse would come some time after we kick their asses away from Earth. And yes, it is possible.

The Flood are a huge threat to everyone....unless its last thing we do before we die, can't really see us deliberatly releasing them. Although, Admiral Ackerson hmm, he's a big enough git to do it. Been giving the whole can't kill a Prophet thing some thought, and how if we did it we'ld escalate things. But thinking of it, we did actually kill one on the Unyeilding Elephant :P The other Prophets never liked the guy, so no huge loss but still.

Anyhow, ideas...if we "convince" a Prophet to peace in return for maybe us giving it our artifacts, how would the Cove' lesser ranks take it? Elites are insanely protective over the Prophets decissions, but working with there enemys...ohh cival war inbound. The grunts couldn't give a stuff about anything as long as they have methane and food, and a quiet life (if they can get it), so they wouldn't mind. Can't ever see a Hunter like to side with humans. The entire Covenant could collapse if a Prophet tried to work with the humans. It could self implode. The MC jumping off a transport with a pack of grunts giving him covering fire as he wades into a group of Elites and Hunters hehe.

I dunno, can't see us using a Halo against a Cove' world though, it just doesnt seem like the MC's style.
