As the above poster indicated, button glitches are just combinations of button presses which exploit programming glitches to make weapons execute different commands faster. It is a glitch, as Bungie themselves has called using any of these combinations cheating, but people who use these glitches like to make themselves feel better by thinking Bungie secretly put them in to add more depth to the game. Your choice of who you'd rather believe.
I'll list the glitches here since Halo 2 is basically dead now anyway, but do NOT use these in matchmaking as doing so accomplishes 2 things:
1) Gets you labeled as a cheater
2) Annoys the Hell out of people who decide not to cheat.
If you are new, this is not a good way to make friends.
The most infamous glitches are with the Battle Rifle. They inlcude BXR and RRX.
BXR is meleeing, using the X button to cancel the melee while trying to reload (but you should have a full clip so this does not happen), then pulling the fire button. If done in rapid succession, a person will land a melee, and fire a shot in less than even HALF a second. If the shot is fired at the opponent's head, it will kill him/her immediately. This means almost instant death to opponents in close quarters combat and hence why it is so cheap.
RRX involves pulling the fire trigger, then, after the first shot stops, pulling it again and pushing X. If done correctly, as indicated above, you will shoot six shots quicker than a normal person would, and automatically get a reload shortly after. Some people switch weapons twice and then do it again and again and again for extremely cheap, and quick, kills. It only takes two double-shots to kill a person.
There are other glitches which decrease reload times, or allow you to throw two grenades in less than a second, all of which can be found at Halopedia.com.
Again, don't use these in Matchmaking as it is cheating. Heck, posting about them is even forbidden, but seeing as how this thread is already here.... Just only use them offline, on your own Xbox. In campaign, for example. It's fun to doubleshot brutes, or BXR elites, and they won't give you negative feedback which could lead to a banning.
I hope this helped!
