So answer this question if you are all great and knowing of everything...What is the deal with page 27 of the Halo 3 booklet, where it states that Bungie.net is the leaderboard for Halo 3? When I think of leaderboard....I think of ALLTIME stats...like every other videogame has...not just stats from one previous game...it is time to stop short changing customers and to deliver on what has been advertised on the game packaging, in the game's instruction manual, and on various websites selling the game.

Calm down man! They are doing everything they say, it's just not showing up because EVERYONE loved the game so much that over 1,000,000 people play at once. That combined with a few small bugs (which Bungie keeps reminding us of, if you read back in this topic) presented an issue that overwhelmed their system. Your data is safe, it will be updated, and you need to stop saying they aren't living up to what they said they would. They handled the biggest entertainment release of all time without a hitch, and are now getting clogged up as they refine the process. Give them time to prove themselves, and in the meantime enjoy playing Halo 3!

I could enjoy playing Halo 3 more if my friend and I had some stats posted online to fuel our competition with eachother as it states in the game manual. Some people actually like competing with eachother...sort of a friendly rivalry, yes it is still a very fun experience...I love teabagging a friend, and then making a video clip and recommending it to them, but it is always better to be able to compare stats and truly see who is doing the best...Bungie realized this and set up a system so that we can all do this...however their system is flawed. Bottom line is this, Bungie should not make promises they can not keep. The excuse that there are too many stats to keep track right now is BS. Everyone that was not living under or rock knew that this game was going to have millions of gamers playing...hence over a million in game pre-sales.

Read prior quotes from Bungie staff, they clearly state that we exceeded even their most optimistic estimates, but on top of that they had several issues appear at once that compounded the backlog problem. The system is set up, there are bugs, but they will be fixed. The stat-tracking will be as advertised, it may take a period of time(I don't work there so i don't know how long it will be) before it works seamlessly but it will happen. Just have some patience, the game has almost been out two weeks. If this is still happening on a constant basis months from now you can say you aren't getting what was advertised. Until then, understand there are no certainties in this world, especially in an overly complex technical system such as the one designed to log the stats of millions of people.

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

In my opinion, Bungie.net currently lives up to the text you quoted right there (Even with the stats being bit quirky the past few days). I don't see anything in there that guarantees stats tracking as part of the product we purchased. It is definitely worded in a way where we, as customers, expect to see our stats here, but it doesn't give a customer service line to call if your stats aren't working (Which would indicate that the stats are part of the actual product). Just trying to make that clear.

no problem, let me quote the second sentence,,,,,

" features and functionality available on the site include EXTENDED POSTGAME CARNAGE REPORTS, providing DETAILED info about who killed whom with what and where"....

third paragraph,,,,,

"we'll also let you view your STATS relative to the folks on your friends list, FUELING competition among peers and friends,.....

Now, you were saying WHAT? about stats?.....

Go read the manual......
I was saying THIS (lol caps) about stats: That nothing that was described in the product literature guarantees that stats will be available. It isn't part of the product. Like I said before:

The fact that they promote the stat tracking right there in the manual definitely does put a lot of pressure on their shoulders to deliver for us. I'm not arguing that at all (I agree with you on that point). But a lot of people are pointing to that text and acting in a manner that suggests that they believe Bungie is somehow backing out on some sort of deal they made with us when we purchased the game. I disagree with that sentiment. I don't regard the stat tracking as a product in-and-of itself and therefore I don't expect it to perform with 99.999% uptime. Keeping track of the achievements I do expect, because that is tied in with my Xbox Live account, but everything else is provided by Bungie from (I'm guessing) their own coffers. It just helps promote the game, but it doesn't directly generate any profit for Bungie (Isn't it awesome that there aren't any advertisements on Bungie.net?).

Now if I paid a certain amount of money per month (Or whatever) to keep my Bungie.net account and stat tracking, then I would definitely expect the service to be near perfect.

Just got a partial update on my page - while some of the data isn't there it's extra proof (though I didn't didn't need any) that they're working on it! Stay positive y'all, Bungie will pull through.

I have posted approximately six times about this issue in last 48 hours. Nobody is being silent. There is a pinned post in the Halo 3 forum. There is this thread, along with a few others.

You can complain about it all you want, that's fine. But please don't suggest that we're ignoring the issue - time spent trying to re-explain that we're working on it is time spent not working on the problem itself.

Posted by: nytebringer
by now everyone should have figure out that load balance and server resources pushed the limits. everyone except for maybe a small minority are not getting their stats posted. so panic and all the constant posting regarding lack of score uploading is pointless at this point. it's too bad that bungie is silent about this. regardless if we get our stats posted or not, if you love halo 3 that much. i assume you can and could always regain those stats

And I've posted about 60 times. You've never responded to the DETAILED threads that I've written, once.

The reason people are getting a little tired of seeing your posts, is because they don't address what we're writing on this very thread, is the problem.

You haven't justified blaming MM on people's internet connections, we don't have a timeframe for when this will be resolved, you haven't responded to the fact that all evidence (which we've detailed) would lead one to believe that their stats are gone forever.

So I understand that you're making an attempt, but what you must understand is that most of us just don't think it's good enough.

But again, the issue here is primarily with Bungie. We didn't expect YOU to just solve this today, we expected you to at least "get on it" which I guess you have done. But on Bungie's end, this is horrible. They should be ashamed. Not a word in a week on this but they keep making statements unrelated to it.

I've already spoken to representatives from Game Informer, GamePro and Fox News on the phone today...I have sources.

This will develop into a rather large news story...watch.

The journalists I spoke to couldn't BELIEVE that the corporation behind the product hasn't made an official (or un-official) statement on this.

Wow Intrepid you muckraker you. Calling all of your friends to tattle on a company, I'm sure they already know the situation if they are anyone of any importance in the industry. The people that are complaining about this minor set back are morons, be happy that the damn game came out, that you can all log on and play online against eachother, and that the guys at Bungie said "The data is not lost, it's just taking a bit to process". Calm down guys the stats will be back up, until then go veto slayer on Isolation only to end up Shotty Snipes on narrows kthxbye.

If that's the case, that would be horrible.

Working on it and say nothing for a week? Just let all of us sit here wondering?

Word of advice son- You have to make a public statement when something like this happens. You can't just go off on your own, ignore the fanbase/customers, and "work on it" in your mom's basement.

Intrepid did you read any of the previous 12 pages of posts? There has been a bungie rep admitting to the problem and they are working on a soloution. Stop making them out to be the bad guy man enjoy the game that they released while the work out the bugs.

  • 10.08.2007 12:39 PM PDT

Well, hey bub

Yea, none of my stats have been updated for about 50 games I played over the weekend, and around 8 campaign missions I completed. I really hope you guys have the stats stored because I did really good and I enjoy looking at my kills and my medals I earn while playing, it's like a bonus and adds to the experience.

  • 10.08.2007 12:40 PM PDT

Face it folks, Bungie is a video game and a competitive online experience, and the very best at that. But, it’s NOT a website.

Without giving examples, we’ve all seen some pretty kick-ass websites; done by those pros who do nothing but websites. Bungie needs to find a web development firm that can not only captivate the visitor with a flashy visual experience, but also handle data loads that rival the shipping or airline industry.

Those poor souls are trying to drain a lake through a drinking straw. And as long as that backlog continues to grow, so will that lake into an ocean. It’s not a question of whether or not the data is stored, but whether or not we’ll ever see it again.

  • 10.08.2007 12:43 PM PDT

well, looks like something is improving, as the game I just played online is now up on the website. however, all games from the previous 4 days are not (but my EXP is accurate), so i'm hoping they do have those stats stored somewhere on their servers and will update everything to reflect our progress. i know i had my first triple kill over the weekend so i'm looking forward to seeing that on my profile :)

how about everyone THANK Bungie for their hard work instead of crying every time something doesn't work??

I keep quoting a post that says the data is intact just not uploading correctly, and that they are working hard on it. Instead of getting mad at me and taking on threatening tones about news stories, why not just play the game and wait to see what they say? Is this really helping them fix the issue, or are all these messages slowing them down? They know it's a problem, now just be patient and let them fix it. If it's really that big of a deal then return the game.

Again, Bungie is trying to manage the biggest entertainment release of all time, and I think we need to let them work.

1) They have done, arguably the worst job in history, with the first 2 weeks of customer support here. You really think the first anyone at a media outlet heard about it was me? I guess you don't understand the way the media operates...they've been aware of this since Friday. They've been waiting to see how it unfolds...

2) Calling someone a moron is against the forum rules. If a mod does not warn you for that post, the mod needs to be removed from their responsibilities here. What your personal thoughts are on a person who is bothered by this, need to stay in your head. They're irrelevant.

3) There is absolutely no evidence that the data is just "on it's way". I and others have debunked that garbage about 5 times now. They can't just say "don't worry". We've provided evidence as to why their response makes no sense. There needs to be some kind of direct response to the detailed description of the problem. As it is now, they keep addressing something that's not the true problem.

So, go argue with the over 200 people who have posted what an outrage it is in this thread alone. Obviously, your opinion is in the minority.

So I understand that you're making an attempt, but what you must understand is that most of us just don't think it's good enough.
And if what I have been speculating in this thread is true, then that would explain why they haven't given specific details about the problem yet. The features on the disk functioning properly and online MM functioning properly are what you pay for when you purchase the game. Those have been pretty solid so far (There were those out there that had problems with stuff not loading from the disk, and I'm sure they have been - or are in the process of - being compensated free of charge).

But again, the issue here is primarily with Bungie. We didn't expect YOU to just solve this today, we expected you to at least "get on it" which I guess you have done. But on Bungie's end, this is horrible. They should be ashamed. Not a word in a week on this but they keep making statements unrelated to it.This is standard practice with issues like this. If the people working on the problem gave us constant updates about what the specific problem was and technical descriptions about what solutions are being attempted, it would only spawn more useless debate amongst a large group of emotional people who have only a fraction of an idea (If even that) of how the system actually works. I guarantee you it would bore 90% of you to death and it would be a waste of time for people who are trying to do something more important (i.e. Fix the problem).

You're not understanding: There is NO evidence to support what they're saying...but there is evidence that the information is in fact gone forever. Sorry, they just need to make a statement on this that includes consideration of what's been stated by the community. Not just "it should be ok, we're working on it". There's absolutely nothing about this situation that looks like it will be resolved. Nothing.

A gap in data that's been "missing" for a week? That's unheard of...
