GT: schuttle

my favorite skull is catch because there are always grenades from the enemies that die before they throw their grenades

Shmokin a pancake

lol i suck so il prolly just turn fog on (never use the radar anyway) and maybe catch...still the effects sound pretty awsome cant wait to try em all out =)

  • 10.03.2007 5:04 PM PDT

Legendary with Catch, Thunderstorm, and Fog isn't that much harder than typical Legendary, and makes getting the point achievements very easy.

I've found at least.

My favorite combination of skulls, for fun not for a challenge, is cowbell, IWHBYD, grunt birthday, catch, and blind, it makes the game sooooo funny.

I have a question about iron, when you play single player and you die, are your points reset to zero?

Same question about co-op, because if they aren't, I can see a way that some unscrupulous person may be able to cheat to earn massive amounts of points.

When you die your points are set to what they were when you were at the last checkpoint, minus 125.

So no kill a grunt, die, kill a grunt, die, and finish a level on easy with 500,000 points. Can't do it.

  • 10.03.2007 5:23 PM PDT

Just remember... I keep it real...

The iron skull sucks... I hate it.

Legendary Co-op:
Tough luck, catch, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm, Mythic.

I'd love to attempt a Legendary 4 player Co-Op with [i[every[/i] skull enabled.

... My mates and I probably wouldn't get past the first Brute in the first level, but still.

I haven't played Legendary yet, I'm a -blam!-.

It's practically impossible for me to go through Normal and not die.

But every single time I play...even with scoring off(which is rare, btw), I always put up Tough Luck, Catch, Fog, and Thunderstorm. And Grunt Birthday Party. That's pretty fun.

Kinda wish they had a Jackal and Brute Birthday Party....

Get this!!! I once(to ensure my 10 thou point achievement) played The Ark on Normal with Tough Luck, Catch, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm, Tilt and Mythic.

Hell, ONE skull probably would've ensured my 10G. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I had to keep going!!!!

Only 82 Points away from 133 Grand.

Enough to beat the 10,000 Point requirement 13 TIMES OVER.

ON NORMAL.

Kick-ass.

I was doing solo Legedary with all Gold Skulls apart from Iron and Black Eye until I came to the the part just before you get to the barracks on Crows Nest. The room of a million super strong brutes... My attempts fell on their super powerful armour like a pebble being pelted at a castle wall. Eventually managed to kill them all apart from that big mean hammer-time beast who the seemed to be immune to all my weapons and my Needler was empty long ago.....woe was me.

Muerete Dot Org

One of the greatest part of playing Halo 3....Playing Campaign with others! I was DEVASTATED when I was not able to play co-op on H2. The option just sat there as a tease! A cruel joke! Its finally here and Ive rocked 36 campaign missions! If it wasn't for the achievements it would have been doubled or tripled! I found legendary a bit more of a "HEROIC with a twist" ( Im one of the few who loved playing Legendary in Cairo Station). Bungie AKA "Evil Geniuses" added controllable skulls! It was cool hunting skulls H2 but then I would have to jump stages to achieve something close to Meta-gaming. Well ok I'll stop yapping and get to the point.

Legendary 117
- Iron Skull : Because ALL legendary difficulties should MAKE you go back from the last check point.

- Tough Luck Skull : If I am fighting an AI that does not "try" to dodge, then I rather play Social Matchmaking.

- Catch Skull : When you take your eyes off that Motion Tracker for a sec and a Grunt feels neglected .... HE WILL STICK YOU! Great Simulation of Online Gaming, some people just Love to chuck em!

- Fog Skull : Well come back to HardCore!

- Famine Skull : He said it...Believe it! [ link ]

- ThunderStorm Skull : Fight the best the Covenant can offer.

- Tilt Skull : Covenant Technology is much more Advanced than Human Tech.

- Mythic Skull : Harder difficulty does mean the enemy has more life.

I know its the same as the Luke's Legendary Co-op Recommendations, but if I could modify ONE skull... it would be the Blind skull. I would Reset it and remove the reticle only. Just because its annoying NOT knowing which weapon you have quickly, how much ammo is left, health and I wanna see my score!

sweet!. thanks for the pointers or just the legitimate explanation (again?) of the skulls. btw: good job Bungie on making lots of things to keep us happy.

Catch = so...many....grenades...

I like a lot of the skulls, the ones I rarely use though are Blind,Iron,Famine and Black Eye. They really ramp up the difficulty. I love it though. I was unaware that the Iron skull brought you back to the last checkpoint (in coop). I might use that one more on coop because it will bring back memories of Halo 2 Legendary!

... plus Cowbell and IWHBYD make it perfectly balanced for my skill.

The IWHBYD skull doesn't add any difficulty to the game, it just alters some of the dialogue/text.

Nice guide, I won't use it, but some nice ideas. The Grunt Birthday Party skull is hilarious, thanks for having that in there. Cowbell is awesome, I throw grenades just to look at the explosions. Can't wait 'till Friday's update, I want my question answered.

  • 10.03.2007 6:00 PM PDT

WEll if you really want a chalenge try skull mode. its impossible just turn on every skull and play on legendary thats it and i dont think anyone could beat the game on there own or even with a group in skull mode.

OK still confused on the scoring, i want someone who really really knows what they're talking about to help me, heres some facts I have seen, these are true, but I cant decipher what kind of equation decides this...

These are based on grunt kills (10 point base on normal)

*Easy difficulty (.25x) + Mythic skull (2x) = 5 points for a grunt kill.
This one makes sense to me

*Easy difficulty (.25x) + Mythic, Famine, Thunderstorm, Fog (7x) = 17 points for grunt kill.
Also makes sense, 7x.25x10 = 17.5 (guess they round down)

*Normal difficulty (1x) + Mythic, Famine, Thunderstorm, Fog (7x) = 70 points for a grunt kill.
Makes sense, 7x1x10 = 70

*Heroic difficulty (2x) + Mythic, Famine, Thunderstorm, Fog (7x) = 90 points for a grunt kill.
Heres where its confusing, WHY does it add 20 points, based on my previous, and incorrect, I assume, calculations, it should be 7x2x10 = 140? but it added 20 points to a grunt kill, now i can see that the 2x heroic times 10 points is 20, but the 10 wasnt added to a normal grunt kill.

*Legendary difficulty (4x) + same skulls as above (7x) = 110 points for a grunt kill.
Follows the pattern of adding difficulty multiplier to the skull multiplier to get your score

Conclusion---Heroic and Legendary follow the same pattern, easy and normal have their own little calculations
If this is all right tell me

--the Colonel has spoken...listen well

I enjoy Legendary Co-Op with Grunt Birthday, IWHBYD, Catch, Famine, Tough Luck, and Cowbell activated. Tough Luck and Catch are interesting combinations...and Cowbell makes it insane. We plan on adding "Mythic" and "Tilt" on next time we play.

Paranoia is a very comforting state of mind. If you think they're out to get you, it means you think you matter.

In Halo: CE, we could get overshield by constantly meleeing our foes. Does that work in Halo 3?

What is the best skull setup to get the point totals needed for each particular mission playing solo on Heroic? I've found all the skulls, not interested in restarting the longer levels any time I die though. I just want to see what people suggest as the best way to get the single player achievements with the least amount of headache. I'll probably try fog since I'm used to playing FPS without a radar.

  • 10.03.2007 7:24 PM PDT

Thats exactly my favorite combo too, but if i had to choose out of those three it would be Catch. Catch is so fun to play with cause i love how they throw so many grenades its just fun.

If you play with black eye on the last level then you will rarely run out of shields. Just beat down the flood and you should be good. Except when you face the Oracle
