I'm a big fan of the lightning skull, you see a lot more of brutes with brute shots ready to wreck you, it makes you use cover a lot more. My favorite skull moment was in halo 2 playing coop on legendary my friend and I stumbled upon the black eye skull by accident and couldn't figure out wtf happened. We played the last checkpoint for hours with no shield (didn't know how to regen them, and keep in mind in halo 2 when you grabbed a skull it was instantly turned on) until we perfected how to beat tartarus without being hit. Yeah it sucked, but it was the hardest thing I've ever done in a video game so it was fun in a sick way.

I'm a bit surprised Catch wasn't included in Ske7ch's line up. Heroic and legendary critters are insane, but the extra grenades they are always dropping is worth it. Though I woundlt suggest using Tough luck with it, kind of makes it pointless.. Also You need to consider what your primarily fighting against in the levels. The Skulls are definitley focus around making the covenant harder, not so much the flood.

On a given covenant primary level i use, Thunderstorm, Catch, Fog, Mythic, (and sometimes Iron or mythic)
Against flood I typically use Thunderstorm, Catch, Fog, Famine, Iron and Toughluck. (and sometimes tilt, or Blackeye)

No, acnboy. Spartain Ken 15 is a lesser being. Much like the bacteria that lives in your shit.

My shit bacteria takes offense to that comparison.

Don't make me lel. You won't like me when I lel.

i once just turned on ALL the skulls except iron and blind (need my HUD!)
it was so hard it was funny

i saw a group of grunts so i threw a sticky and they dodged and then i got stuck with about 5 stickies and the grunts taunted me in the ways of the IWHBYD skull and then all the stickies blew up and the cowbell skull took care of that and the explosion was so big it killed the gryunts standing 20m away
*puffs*
LOL!

If you're teh suck like me and you want the achievements then the easiest combo i could come up with was: Iron, Catch, Thunderstorm, Cowbell, GBP and IWHBYD on normal with a friend on co-op who doesn't mind hanging back and waiting for you to get all the kills. That way you get the 3x multiplier from Iron, but you don't have to go all the way back to the start. :D

fog is probably not too bad an idea either...

Mythic, Famine, Fog, and Grunt Birthday Party in Co-op. It generally comes down to who can get a headshot on the grunts and everyone always chears when you hear a bunch of 6 year olds go"YAY!".

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Wow, you can get a whopping 16.5x multiplier just from the skulls. Once I get them all (i'm not cheating ) it'll turn em all on, (except iron, thats annoying by yourself) and blow through the meta-game achievements.

At the minute, I only have the skulls from the first 5 levels, by favourite so far is: Catch, Tough Luck combo. They don't seem to make it too much harder, (catch also affects your allies remember) and offer a nice point bonus.

One day though, I'm going to get some friends round and go through the entire game on legendary with all skulls (except blind) in 4 player co-op. Awesome!

I usually have IWHBYD, Cowbell and Grunt Birthday Party on just for a laugh but along with those I'll turn on Fog (I'm used to playing GoW and that doesn't have a motion sesnsor), Catch (I just love grenades xD), Tough Luck and Thunderstorm (not too much of a big deal, just makes it more worthwhile killing 'em!).

I've got all the skulls and I've tried various combo's but I like the above best.

Thou in faith will keep us safe, whilst we find the path.

I don't usually put any gold skulls on when i'm on legendary, but i love to put Tough Luck,Catch,Fog,Famine,Thunderstorm,Tilt, and Mythic on when i'm on Heroic. Regardless of what difficulty,i always put Cowbell,G.B-Day Party, and IWHBYD.

Being a weakling that I am (in single-player):

Fog: almost always, i never use the motion tracker anyway...
Iron: only on Normal, in easy levels like Crow's Nest and The Covenant.
Black Eye: On Normal in small levels like Sierra 117 and Crow's Nest.
Tough Luck: Almost always.
Catch: Tried it...scary as hell at times, especially in big encounters. I sometimes turn it on in Crow's Nest on Normal.
Thunderstorm: Almost always.
Mythic: Always on Normal.

Famine- Haven't gotten yet, still working on it (but I don't really like the idea of it :S
Tilt- I can SEE IT...just can't get to it yet, but I haven't tried much. I'll probably use it on Normal.

And of course, I ALWAYS turn on GRUNT BIRTHDAY PARTY!

"YAAAAY!"

  • 10.04.2007 6:25 AM PDT

I always activate Fog, Famine, Mythic, and thunderstorm. (also catch on occasion). I also always activate Grunt Birthday Party (this skulls affect is hilarious), IWHBYD, and the cowbell skull! I find it a fun experience!! thx for a gr8 game bungie!!

Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me with the location of the "I Would Have Been Your Daddy" Skull. It's the last one I need and so far I haven't been able to find out where it's at. If you could let me know, I would be much obliged. I realize that Bungie keeps these things sort of "secret", yet I want to start a solo campaign game on Legendary, and I really can't do that until I get all the skulls as well as all the terminals (which I will find on my own, don't worry) considering that every time you turn on a skull/continue a new level you lose your old saved game data. Kind of lame, but there has to be some challenge to it I suppose. Thanks!

100% of play time I use catch. Usually fog. Alot of thunderstorm.

Alot of IWHBYD, and cowbell (grunt birthday party isn't what it use to be).

Tilt when playing for meta points...

I love chucking those skulls on.

Black Eye makes fighting flood a joke, you can easily dance between enemies, sometimes one shotting the weaker units and your shield stays at full, even on Legendary. However, if you combine Catch and Black Eye, congratulations on going nowhere in levels.

Anyways, skulls really add to the difficulty of the somewhat easy campaign experience. I love it! :D

the new updates, and features, also shenanigens have forced me to switch profiles, my only regret is that I didn't pick a better name... ah well, nevermind eh?

I have just turned on all the skulls on normal and it still says [3.00x] at the bottom???

  • 10.04.2007 7:22 AM PDT

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

*Possible Spoiler!*

What I did to get the achievements in scoring is I put the difficulty to Normal and I had the following skulls on;

Gold Skulls: Tough Luck, Fog, and Thunderstorm is what I always had on. On levels where I'd fight the flood almost exclusively I'd turn on Catch as well, since the Flood don't throw grenades.
Silver Skulls (because I could, and I thought they added points at the time): Cowbell, Grunt Birthday Party, and I Would Have Been Your Daddy.

recon37, the reason the multiplier in the corner didn't chance is because that is the time multiplier. Try turning off the skulls, kill a Grunt or two and restart with the skulls on and when you kill a Grunt now you'll see the difference in points the skulls give you.

I'm tryin to beat the game on Heroic so I use:

Fog, and Thunderstorm.

I like them the best because no radar doesn't bother me and field promotions doesn't either. I do it just for the multipliers, so I can beat it on Heroic and get the meta-game achievements.
