IMHO, Bungie had abandoned its PC/Mac fanbase since being aquired by Microsoft.

But I'm curious to see if there is anyone who disagrees. What are your own thoughts?

Bungie hasn't abandon us, the people who made bungie abandoned it.

For obvious reasons.

The old Bungie employees still love us, but Microsoft doesn't. To Microsoft we are all just a bunch of retired fat guys that love to play Flight Simulator X.

Remember, they did help Gearbox make Halo PC.

Money loving S.O.Bs we like Halo not retarded flight simulators that are BOOORRRIINNGG, ever wonder if they even look at how big, and productive (in a way) the rest of the PC gamers community is?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Bungie might care, but I sure don't feel very loved.

If I had a Rocket Launcher...

Shut up and get behind me... Sir!

The cable. I'm going to cut it.

Awesomeness would ensue.

I believe the reasoning isn't so much that Bungie has abandoned the fanbase, so much as they don't have to watch it nearly as much as the console fanbase. With PC gaming comes cons and pros that will just happen regardless of whether or not Bungie steps in. Cheating will happen, but it'll work itself out, usually. You also have the opposite side, being mods and such.

The console side of things, however, demands watching, even more so with what happened with the Halo 2 fiasco.

Well the wildfire rumor about a possible bungie M$ split is still out there, if its true who knows, but I would LOVE to see it happen.

Yes, though it seems we way have confirmation sometime either today or this weekend after the NYSE closes. I'll be keeping an eye on the news page to see if there is any word.

That would help us though because the Halo rights and IP remain with M$.

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Oct. 5, 2007 — Bungie and Microsoft Corp. today announced a plan for Bungie Studios, the developers of Microsoft’s “Halo” franchise, to become a privately held independent company, Bungie, LLC, in which Microsoft will hold a minority equity interest. As part of this transaction, Bungie and Microsoft have forged a deep and long-term development and publishing relationship focused on the continued success of the “Halo” franchise. It is also the intent of both parties to expand their partnership to include new IP created and owned by Bungie.

Bungie’s critically acclaimed Xbox 360® exclusive “Halo 3” achieved $300 million in global sales in its first week. Released on Tuesday, Sept. 25, “Halo 3” is the fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.

“This exciting evolution of our relationship with Microsoft will enable us to expand both creatively and organizationally in our mission to create world-class games,” said Harold Ryan, studio head for Bungie. “We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft’s platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through ‘Halo’ and beyond.”

“Working with Microsoft was great for us, it allowed us to grow as a team and make the ambitious, blockbuster games we all wanted to work on. And they will continue to be a great partner. But Bungie is like a shark. We have to keep moving to survive. We have to continually test ourselves, or we might as well be dolphins. Or manatees,” said Jason Jones, Bungie founder and partner.

Bungie’s management retained the services of Don Leeds, senior managing director of B-Hive Global, LLC, to assist in the structuring of the deal and negotiating on their behalf. Bungie will remain in Kirkland, Washington, and is always looking to hire excellent talent.

I guess the rumors were true then. Lol, Manatees.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Bungie doesn't care, but frankly neither do I.

Halo 2 Vista was the litmus test for me, and they failed miserably.

"Publishers and lawyers like to describe copyright as “intellectual property”—a term that also includes patents, trademarks, and other more obscure areas of law. These laws have so little in common, and differ so much, that it is ill-advised to generalize about them. It is best to talk specifically about “copyright,” or about “patents,” or about “trademarks.”

The term “intellectual property” carries a hidden assumption—that the way to think about all these disparate issues is based on an analogy with physical objects, and our ideas of physical property.

When it comes to copying, this analogy disregards the crucial difference between material objects and information: information can be copied and shared almost effortlessly, while material objects can't be.

To avoid the bias and confusion of this term, it is best to make a firm decision not to speak or even think in terms of “intellectual property".”

Isn't the study of law such a wonderful exercise in ambiguity? I loved taking Law in school, easy grades people. Just like history.

Bungie doesn't care about its PC fanbase. If they did, Halo would have been ported to the PC by Bungie themselves instead of Gearbox, and Halo 2 wouldn't have been ported by a bunch of random, unknown, and inexperienced programmers.

The least they could do is refrain from disowning it.

  • 10.06.2007 8:08 AM PDT

Please Bungie, redeem yourself w/ Reach.
Halo 2 and 3 both stink out loud.
In the immortal words of Mr Horse: Halo 2? No sir, didn't like it.

Halo 1 PC was a complete and total disaster (Bungie/MS/Gearbox). I didn't buy H2 since it seemed to be more of the same. The Vista only and pay service to play sealed the deal. Can you say "milk your fan base". I knew you could.

Which fanbase is more lucrative to Bungie? The answer to your poll and that question are related. I would put my effort into the group that's giving me truckloads of cash too...

Sheesh, that's a little rough. Online play is a little buggy at times, but so are a lot of games.
