You need two of the same game, two Xboxes, at least two controllers, two televisions, and either a crossover cable or two ethernet cables and a router/hub/switch.

Routers, hubs, and switches are all devices you can use to connect two machines without a cross-over cable. Technically, a bridge could do that too, but I've never met anyone who has one that isn't just using it for cable internet.

Also, using one of those 3 devices, you can connect more than just two machines. That way, you could have as many Xboxes/PCs as you want on a network.

u dont need a router if u r only connecting 2 systems, all u need is 1 ethernet cable. If u r connecting more than 2 systems then u need a hub link and an ethernet cable for each system.

I'm pretty much certain you can't use a random ethernet cable with no medium. You need a cross-over cable.

I do 8 player system links all the time so to do 2 xboxes you need a cross over cable there usealy red. To do more you i guess you could use a route/hub/switch but im not shure. you could allway go and buy the machine made for system links which is about 50 buck but a good router is 100.
