I follow you, Ash. I played a LAN party where that's all the other team did. They weren't good enough to go for a flag cap, so they just got both of the tanks (one on top of Red mountain and the other next to their base for better defense) and just hammered at our base the entire game. They didn't get many kills that way, but getting the flag was almost impossible. *If you killed one tank, the other got you because there was no way I could get my team to coordinate well enough to get both at once*

It's a cheap tactic, but sometimes it can work wonders for defense.

absolutetly not, each team has the same options and will have there own rounds of camping the other team, anyways a good player will learn to watch out for stuff like that.

in my opinion, only camping with a shotgun is unnacceptable... besides, if you can't kill someone with an AR, you shouldn't be playing

Camping is a part of every game whether we like it or not so we will just have to learn to deal with it.

If every body does it then the game is lame and you need to find new friends, but if its just an inexperienced player, well then thats the only way for him to play. He might get a few kills in the beggining, but then everyone wil catch on and start throwing frags in his hiding spots. Trust me, if they dont camp at your spawn locations then they wont get far. And if youre with someone who likes to camp, pick a gametype besides slayer.

Only problem I have with camping is... when it happens to me.

Nah, just messing with you guys. I've been a fair gamer, or I try to be one as far as I can- I don't try to run through a game killing everyone the same way... I vary. Scorpion sometimes, Banshee others, Warthog/Puma... Camping is only when people want easy kills in a game. Go FFA (free-for-all) if you want to ruin a camper's experience. Some sniper will find them, and then they're out and someone else is in.

It might be cheap, but i don't mind if people do it, aslong as if they can do it, I can do it ;).

Camping = Lame! I think if you just play the game to hide and only kill someone from across the map, rather than engaging in real combat, not only are you missing out, but you're also a little baby that needs not be apart of Halo or Halo 2.

Mickermack. . . there's also something that can be said for not being a mindless zergling. Many times camping is an important part of strategy and necessary to secure a win. If you want to charge in like a meat-head all the time, then be my guest. Just don't whine so much when somebody waiting around the corner shotguns you.

It all totally depends on what games, what type of games, and how they're camping...

1. With few exceptions (usually the attacting team camping at spawn), Counter-Strike is basically a camping game... Exp. since most, if not all weapons work more accuractly if you stand still and duck (sniper rifles/pump shooty being an exception)

2. Spawn camping the enemy is cheap in about every aspect... The only one I allow to get away with is this:

Game: Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Level: Beach Invasion
Spawn Campers: Allies

Since they put the final objective next to the objective, I found that it was more or less the only possible way to win in that level some times...

3. DEFENDING THE OBEJICTIVE/ENEMIES TARGET IS NOT CAMPING... I cannot stress this enough... Defense is not, and will never be "wrong" or "cheap"...

This also includes specific area's your team currently have possen of... Keeping terrain yours is also a defensive tactic and completely legit...

4. Camping super weapons in games (hopefully Halo 2 will have none) is cheap... I remember in Quake 1 where people would camp next to the rocket launcher or lightning gun so no one else would get it (usually the only one on the map), this is cheap in my eyes personally...

I'll be on my own side.

it only works if youre sniping or youre the last person in a match

I hate it when people say you're camping, when you're protecting the flag in CTF. Just got done playing a session and one of my friends brought some new guy who kept saying I was camping when I'd shoot him when he got to our base.

Personally, I think that whatever method you use to win is valid, whether it's a glitch, a tactic, or whatever. Every game has it's glitches, like hitting the right shin = instant KO and backpack reloading, and I think that if you're curious enough to discover these things than you deserve to use them.

For my own tactics, I like 'progressive' camping, where once you find a enemy, wait a second till he rounds the corner them blam!! Although I must say waiting for minutes around a particular door or corner can be very annoying, and will quickly rack up 'lame' points in the eyes of other players.

Haha, this is kind of a funny topic to me since I hate it when teams camp, but think it's hilarious when one single guy camps in an unexpected spot and proceeds to manhandle several consecutive enemies. I myself take far, far too much pleasure than should be normal in doing things like portal camping, but I know that against serious opponents such tactics work MAYBE once or twice. In the few tournaments I've played in, I got my hindquarters handed to me by a guy who didn't stand still for two seconds, but I've won two others most BECAUSE I didn't camp. Is camping cheap? You bet it is, but it's friggin' fun, too, and sometimes might even be strategically beneficial. Maybe. Does it ruin the game experience for me? Maybe I'll notice camping once in a hundred games, but the other 99 games are just plain fun.

if ur at extremly low health and u dont wanna step out of ur hideing place cause the next shot that hits u is death for you, than i dont think its cheap....unless ur an -blam!- and just sit there and camp people cause ur -blam!-.

Let's say your in blood gulch, and your base is under attack, you have to go on the defensive and camp. Otherwise you die (especially with tank). Then it is not cheap, but every base needs a defender...to win.

okay, this game is basically a little war....now, did the allies yell at Hitler and say "you're being too cheap, don't attack Russia, or France yet, give us some time"...geez...

I think that Camping is cheap only in certain situations. Spawn camping is low by even a midget's standards. However, depending on what type of game you are playing camping is essential to the game. In Halo, sniping and "maybe" defending a checkpoint/objective would be okay. However, in a War type game such as Counterstrike where you play as a terrorist, it seems like a perfectly good startegy to camp near the hostages to use them as cover when the CT comes in. It seems situational to me.

Just because you guys do it, or because it's a little more reasonable won't make it 'fair play.' Everything I have seen mentioned here thusfar has been cheap, even though so many defend particular forms of cheapness or camping. Camping is watching and waiting whether it's with a sniper rifle for spawning enemies or it's at your own base waiting for somebody to make a run with the flag.
The only non-cheap/non-camping way to play is always fight on equal ground (same weapons, both see each other, no power ups). That will decrease your chances of winning, but that's the only real fair play there is.

Camping that you like to do, or you can fight against is still camping.
