Here's an error that many of you will be familiar with: "Initialization failed. Either insufficient system resources were found to run the game, or game data is missing or damaged. Reinstalling the game may fix this problem". I haven't managed to get past this error at all, so I haven't had the chance to use my CD key or link it to my LIVE profile.

Now, I've already been through the basic steps (3 times), and I've also taken the time to use these three sites to test my drivers/hardware. As far as the minimums go, all signs point to green.

My dxdiag file can be found here.

After a few days of running around the Internet, trying to get this fixed, I've decided that either my installation disk is knackered, or the game itself has some issues with my hardware for some reason (Which wouldn't be the first time...). I'd just like to know whether or not there is some mystical reason why I can't run the game, or if I should dash back to the shop and claim a new copy while the return policy is still valid.

(Also, running under the XP hack, but I'm 99.99% certain that this isn't tied to the problem)

I have a pretty good idea what the problem is.

What are your computer specs? Nvm, found them.

K, here is your problem Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family

This graphics card sucks ass and does not have sufficient graphical memory to run the game. Im pretty sure it's the card. If you can get any more info on the problem, it might be useful.

BTW - there is no return policy on videogames. sry.

That's about as much info as I can possibly provide. The only other thing I can think of which could be useful is my use of the -windowed command in my shortcut icon. Without this command, the game forces my desktop into 800x600, the error pops up, and I'm forced to correct my screen resolution manually. With the command in place, there is only the error.

If my graphics card is as sucky as you say, is there any way I could go about improving its memory capacity? I realise it could be awkward since it's an integrated piece of hardware, but I won't know if I have any options (besides "buy a new laptop") unless I ask.

My local shop allows full cash refunds within 10 days of purchase if your game is damaged. From the look of things, I might just have to pretend that this is the case.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I just sent both Vista and Halo 2 back to MS for a refund.
