Like I've already said, I've played multiplayer and campaign an unhealthy number of times and just cannot see how playing on multiplayer levels with bots could be more enjoyable than playing the campaign any number of teams with AI opponents in environments they were designed for. If Bungie can integrate bots into multiplayer without ruining the overall Halo experience, awesome, that'd be even better than the game is already shaping up to be. As much as I don't like bots, I can't help but think how unbelievable it would be have a few subordinates who stick right with you, drive vehicles for you, etc., but realistically I just don't see it happening. I think it would be a real tragedy to have the best part of Halo 2 lessened by trying to force too much into already astonishingly massive game. Oh yeah, and I think my response to Blue_Spartan's response came off more, uhm, aggravating than joking. Which is what I was going for. My bad.

I had to vote no because (no offense to the remarkable work Bungie is accomplishing with AI) BOTS ARE DUMB. Period. Granted, the AI enemies for the Halo 2 campaign mode are going to be remarkably intelligent for pieces of code, they will still just be pieces of code. I know that there are plenty of people who don't mind shooting at and getting shot at by mindless bots, and others also make very good points about bots making multiplayer more enjoyable in ther absence of other human players or Xbox Live. However, I've played Halo, both in multiplayer and campaign, for hundreds of hours by this point and I have never, ever, ever ever ever wanted there to be bots in the multiplayer for any reason. Bots at best are slightly annoying targets and at worst are the king programs of cheap. I have been pretty fortunate in being able to find people to play with and against for Halo, but I can say for certain that even if my multiplayer forays in Halo 2 were to be minimal (which is a laughable idea, but hey, I'm trying to illustrate my opinion here), I would rather play against a miniscule number of human players than have the same number of human players bolstered by any number of mute, irritating, wandering bots. Even with this opinion, the only reason I am adamantly against bots in multiplayer is because chances are that those bots would end up on Xbox Live games, and I do NOT want to pay good money to have what is likely to be the most enjoyable game I have yet played be tarnished by having to forage through Live games in search of purely human opponents. If it could be guaranteed that bots would NOT be allowed on Live, then I'd completely agree with bots for multiplayer. Unfortunately, I doubt that this is what would happen if bots were included in the multiplayer. And although several members of this board have stated that the majority of Halo players want bots, I have to disagree and say that it's a vocal minority of players who want bots, since I have (seriously, I'm not kidding here) yet to encounter any opinions outside this forum calling for bots in Halo 2. I know this post is just asking for some serious flame-age, but since the gaming world rarely proves to be ideal (although everything I've seen and read for Halo 2 is the most ideal stuff I've seen yet), I think that bots could be nice, but would almost certainly be a really horrible, bad, poopy idea.

That was hoprrible. Just to be thorough I actually read that entire post, and it didn't get better. One word completely kills your idiotic logic, OPTIONAL. The fact is, even if you could come up with good reasons not to have bots, their inclusion is something you would be able to ignore, so it shouldn't affect you. But for those who do want bots, not including them is a loss. An acceptable loss, and one we can understand, but a loss nonetheless.

And although several members of this board have stated that the majority of Halo players want bots, I have to disagree and say that it's a vocal minority of players who want bots, since I have (seriously, I'm not kidding here) yet to encounter any opinions outside this forum calling for bots in Halo 2

A forum doesn't represent the masses true, but it also doesn't prove otherwise. Just because those in favour of the bots are a majority of a minority (those who visit forums), doesn't mean their argument isn't valid. Look at it this way, people who have Live ARE the minority, and offline players are the ones who would value bots the most.

While there is no way of gauging every fans opinion, it stands to reason that offline players would value the inclusion of bots, and offline players are the majority.

However, I've played Halo, both in multiplayer and campaign, for hundreds of hours by this point and I have never, ever, ever ever ever wanted there to be bots in the multiplayer for any reason
When playing Halo I never felt like I needed dual weilding, or vehicle boarding, doesn't mean that I didn't want them in Halo 2. And for that matter, me and my mates actually did want bots in halo 1 mutliplayer.

I know that there are plenty of people who don't mind shooting at and getting shot at by mindless bots, and others also make very good points about bots making multiplayer more enjoyable in ther absence of other human players or Xbox Live
You spend the entire single player shooting at 'mindless' enemies, true, bots are no replacement for human players, but since when does including bots exclude human players? If I have a friend over, rather than just kill each other in a big empty level, we could have two teams to add to the feeling of action and carnage.

Im not demanding bots, as bungie may well not have enough time to incorporate them, but to actively be opposed to them, when they would undoubtedly be optional, is nonsensical.

Basically, your saying bots shouldn't be included because it would absorb to much development time, and negatively affect the rest of the game. Everyone else is saying, IF Bungie have the time, bots are something they would like to see in the game.

I dont understand why you suppose that bots would unbalance or change multipayer. They wouldn't unbalance it, in that the multiplayer is built to cater for 16 player LIVE play, and since bots just fill in for absent human players, there'd be no problem. Of course, AI would have to be customised and slightly different from campaign AI, but nothing Bungie couldn't handle. I suspect that there wont be bots in Halo 2, as I can understand Bungie making a decision based on fesibility and time constraints, but if they did include them, it wouldn't be in a half-assed way that would completely ruin mutliplayer. If they ruin your personal experience, dont play bot matches.

Haha, no, I'm not opposed to the idea of bots in Halo 2 IF IT COULD BE DONE RIGHT. I fairly clearly stated that I think bots could be great for multiplayer LAN games but I can gaurantee plenty of people would get pissed off at having to deal with bots on Live. Having bots on Live for Halo 2 with partially defeat the entire purpose of online multiplayer, which is to be able to play with human opponents, not wade through games of people who insist bots make a Live game better.

I doubt bots would be on LIVE, as you could then just set up matches for yourself to gain points. Or, Bungie could actually be intelligent human beings, and have a system similar to warcraft, where there are 2 seperate ways to play; 1: custom games, which can include bots and any number of other variables, but dont add to your score or rank. and 2: actual tournemant games, where there are specific established settings, and statistics ascertained in these matches are added to your profile.

I think there will be bots. What about at e3 2004 a when they started releasing new screens. Wasn't those odsts standing next to mc bots in a multiplayer level. And bungie says they are going to try to make people with no live and only 2 controllers have a way to enjoy mp. Its almost too easy. And they will have been working on this game for almost 3 years!!! What do u think they do all that time, well of course make the game. I think they would be making a huge mistake to not add bots. And halo2 from what I've read and seen has the smartest ai I have ever seen. In the e3 2003 mc and 3 or 4 marines were trying to get through this hall with a bunch of covenant inside, they held their cover and a marine called frag and clear. I have never seen that happen. He never recieved a command either. What about marines and covenant using the environment to their advantage. It seems to me like the ai will be interacting with the environment not just standing about looking convincingly. So for since I don't have live (yet) its a hell yes. Even if I did have live I would say yes. A game comes to my mind with good ai and is one of the most popular online games ever. Counterstrike. That has bots in the online. I think the bots should fill in for unbalanced numbers of people. They would help nonetheless not just be target practice. They can hijac too. So its a no brainer a few people can't figure out!!!! YES for bots!! I bet george bush would approve this message lmao.

I do. I can't stand it when I have no one to play halo with or my brother doesn't want to. It will be cool if you can have 16 bots and have teams. That would be awsome. I hope there will be bots.

So fine, those against bots and those for have reached a compromise, right?

The bots are only available for single offline Xbox and system link. These bots can be turned off and/or reduced in number. The bots are not permitted for XBL because people pay good money for Live and obviously want to play against real human opponents. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Same here Abrams (above post)

I think bots would be a great idea, I think that it could open up a whole new level of play for Halo and lead to many cool and exciting and mysterious and cool features, like MP games with more then two teams. Dont you think that eight teams of two would make a fun team slayer game. And i know that its far to late forthis to be added to Halo 2 and in no way would want the people at bungie to add something as time consuming as this. But alas there will most likely be a Halo 3 and who knows what will actually be in Halo 2.

If they do add bots though, they should really work hard on the bot AI to where, for ONCE, they wouldn't be dumb in multiplayer, and if they are appliable to Xbox Live rooms, the player shouldn't get a point on their personal XBL scoreboard if they kill a bot.

no bots... Bungie wants to encourage players to play with their friends over LAN or online, not by themselves (they actually said this)
