Like I said before, Halo used normal mapping for its surfaces. Shine your flashlight on surfaces and note the grooves in the metal, or the cracks in the ice.

Says halo uses a bump map that is a "Dot3 map" aka normal map... dang.. I hate being wrong so much.

its pretty much just a more advanced version of bump mapping.
do a god damn google search and stop guessing.
