Here's your daily dose of awesome.
Halo works just fine, except that when I download Halo CE it always starts the game up with this darkened screen.I don't know if it's something I did with it, or if it had something to do with the map folder.Does anyone know what may be the cause of this?
Sticky this:YES HALO CE WILL RUN ON VISTA QUITE WELL I MIGHT ADD NOT PROMOTING VISTA AT ALL
aka lino4Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.
Yeah there's a patch for it at halomaps.org

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?
this is the patch he is refering to, however that patch will do nothing to fix your problem. When you say darkened screen do you mean that the screen is totally black and the game doesn't actually run, or is the screen just dark tinted but otherwise runs perfectly fine? If the screen is just dark tinted then you can brighten the screen by turning up the gamma in the video settings.
The screen is basically black with a rainbowish Halo in the background and I can't join a single game because it gives me an exception and I also tried Brightening the screen which also did not work.Even the sound is all quiet and -blam!- up.I don't know what to do..[Edited on 10.09.2007 7:06 PM PDT]
Banged up CD is the only idea that pops to mind
Nothing is wrong with the CD because Halo works, but Custom Edition does not work...

Turn off or set to "application-controlled" the anti-aliasing setting in your video driver. Halo Custom Edition will not utilize Anti-aliasing. The default anti-aliasing setting on most Vista video drivers is set to "on".

Worked fine for me until i lost my halo disk
Well you can try the old fashioned way. Uninstalling it then download it again from HereSteps:1) Remove your maps folder so you don't have to re-download all your custom maps again.2) Uninstall Halo Custom Edition using Add and Remove Programs.3) Install Halo Custom Edition using the .exe from the download.4) Download this Update for Halo CE: Here5) Put your Halo PC Cd in and play.6) If this doesn't work then IDK what is wrong with your computer. PS: That patch for Vista was for the Beta version of Vista. The Retail version should run Custom Edition just fine.
