Subject: Experience Penalty, Can it be disputed.

I was wondering if there is any way to dispute the experience penalty. I have an experience penalty of 20 yet I have never quit a single match. I have lost connection a couple times but I always complete any game. I have even stuck it out in a game that was me by myself vs eight other players. Does anybody know if there is a way to dispute it. Please get back to me. I know its kinda -blam!- but I actually care that I am getting a penalty because of it. I have a friend who has quit numerous games and has a penalty of 5. If there is not a way to dispute it, does anybody know if it goes away after a certain amount of time etc.

I am wondering the same thing. I have 3 points taken off of me. I do admit that I did quit once because it was the same map and mode for 4 straight games. The other 2 points were taken off because 1 my power went out for one, and my DSL shut off for the other.
Have you found anything out since you first posted the question?

my new apartment has a weak signal and my internet kept cutting out so I got -4 for that. It sucks cause I didn't quit.

I've had the same happen to me. It's EXTREMELY frustrating...I was playing a game last night and after being killed, it said I would respawn in 10 seconds, but it just sat there. My natural instinct is to leave, but for fear of losing EXP, I stayed there, and eventually the game just shut down. I still lost points, and am really cheesed off about that!!!

BUNGIE, WHAT'S GOING ON????

Has anyone heard anything yet concerning this? My wireless signal cut out mid game. Not that I care too much about one point, but I like to keep my record perfect. I don't even quit games I hate, like shotty snipers.

1: No sorry they cant because of something they said in the Podcast...
2: Believe me I've tried, I know your pain. I have -60 something exp, because my 360 DVD drive is stuffing up and it keeps telling me the disc needs cleaning as I start any campaign level or most Multiplayer levels as well. Just as the match is starting it boots me out saying my disc needs cleaning and then of course that counts as me quitting so I lose exp...lots of it.
I'm sorry to break it to you, but I have the same problem and Bungie shows now signs of helping us out.

  • 10.25.2007 6:01 AM PDT

I have the same thing, I made a thread but the people who replied were nothing but -blam!-s. I have a -11 EXP. 8 of which because my connection drops out and 1 of which was because I had a power cut in my area. I've quit 2. It's annoying because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to records and I like to keep them as clean as possible.

If you're leaving because of a bad connection or bad hardware, then you deserve the penalty just as much as if you quit intentionally.

The only scenario where you should be spared a penalty is if more than a certain percentage of your team quits on you, say maybe 25%. Last night I joined a social skirmish match and 3 of my teammates quit at the map load screen. I wasn't about to hang around for a 5 vs 2 match of territories, so I left. I don't think exp should be taken away for that.

no!

Players that have a decent connection don't want you on their team dropping out half-way through so your penalty is there to seperate you from us! Just do the right thing and get your connection sorted, surely being able to play without fear of dropping out is more important to you than a couple of random numbers?

Nope.

Kinda screwed up too if your connection drops out. I got a little scar from one time too.

And for all you kids saying, "No, you can't! fix your connection blah, rant, wtfever, just wait..your time is coming too ;) "

eh?
if my connection kept dropping out i'd be more concerned with fixing it than some random EXP number that means nothing due to all the boosting anyways.

Our time will come?

oh, p.s. i haven't legally been classed as a kid for 12 years.....

As far as I know, EXP cannot be disputed and rightly so. If you're getting disconnected frequently due to conectivity issues related to your internal nework or ISP, you really should not be playing ranked team games until its fixed. Its the only way to be fair to others.

Changing the way things work will absolutely lend to abuse and we will be more unhappy than happy.

As far as losing power, I have a UPS with my console, switch, router, TV, and stereo attached to it. It gives me about 15 to 30 minutes runtime if the power goes out. I've benefitted from it at least twice.

You played 155 ranked games and have quit or whatever, 51 times.

Your quitting ratio is: (51/155) * 100 = 33%.

That is to high and its not fair to others when you play in ranked team games because this mean that in every 10 games you start, you will not be there at the end 3 times.

At some point the TruSkill system will catch up with you and match you with others that have the same disposition.

Changing the system with lend to abuse. The current system is a necessary evil to deter abuse.

It's your responsibility to maintain a good connection so you don't affect other players who want a good game. If you get penalized for losing your connection it's your fault and you should seek to improve your connection.

1) Stop using wireless, it's garbage compared to wired.
2) Replace your existing cable and splitters with top grade cable and top grade splitters.
3) Get a new cable modem with the most recent firmware
4) Get a router that allows you to control quality of service for each port and set the Xbox port to the highest priority
5) All else fails, call your provider and have them come out and look at your service coming into your house

These things are ALL user fixable problems with a minimal cost. At most you could spend $300 to fix all of these things in the absolute worst case scenario. More likely we are talking about a few bucks here and there and some EFFORT.

There, problem solved

Yes sir, you are 100% correct. It's time for a little lesson in personal responsibility around here.

1) Stop using wireless, it's garbage compared to wired.

I can't agree with that. Wireless is suitable if it's set up properly. Wired is obviously prefferable, especially if you want to stream movies/music from a PC.

2) Replace your existing cable and splitters with top grade cable and top grade splitters.

You should only have ONE splitter before the modem, and thats the one the cable company uses to split your TV signal from your internet. Obviously you should only be splitting the TV signal from there. Do not use boosters.

3) Get a new cable modem with the most recent firmware

I would also like to add: BUY YOUR OWN MODEM. The ones the cable company rents are usually straight pieces of garbage (shark fins, etc). For a nominal investment you can buy your own (maybe even a modem/router combo), save the rental fees, and have superior equipment.

4) Get a router that allows you to control quality of service for each port and set the Xbox port to the highest priority

I don't think this is all that important. But you should definately assign a manual IP address to your xbox and forward the necessary ports.

I understand there is limits and that sometimes you will get penalized when you are disconnected. It is just reality. What I don't understand is that I have lagged out only once and never quit but I have -3 exp. Oh well, but it is frustrating.

Unfortunately, it just isn't realistic for Bungie to allow me, or anyone else, to dispute these kind of things.

But what about those of us who don't have the dc'd or quit numbers to match the -exp points, like the original post? I know myself and a few of my friends that I play with have never quit or been dc'd, yet we have -exp. Can we get a more specific description of when we get those points? we can track our games down to the last stat, so why can't we know when we got the -exp? I know disputing it would be difficult, even impossible, I just want to know.

there no way to tell a quiter from a power out or a internet loss so suck it up and live with it it is only a few wins, (i also have a few exp losses because of internet loss)

simply win a few more games and it should balance out and also if it is only a few games that you loss connection it wont start matching you up solely with quiters.

It was stated in an update that Bungie can't/won't give back exp. It sucks but there is nothing we can do about it. I'm just about to the -40 club because of my crappy connection. It will give me negative if I drop out of the game before it starts but after the players have been matched and this may be the reason that some of you feel like you haven't quit but still lost exp. If you think about it, one team ended up starting out 1 player short...I've had that happen to me a few times and I don't like it.

I have placed nearly 10 calls into my DSL provider and they have come up with at least 10 solutions to the problem of my DSL signal wavering. Everytime they tell me it should be fine, but then it drops out again. I think it finally worked and everything shoud be fine. BUT, in the couple weeks that all this went on, including a guy coming to my house (didn't fix it), I wasn't going to stop playing Halo. I could generally get a game or 2 in before it would drop on me and sometimes more or less. Everytime they told me it was fixed was another time I start playing (I would shut the damn 360 off if it did it more that 2 times a sitting). My point here is that I'm not going to stop playing the game and even when I do stop because of the stupid problem, I still have to start back up again and figure out if the connection is good or not.

And, in reply to the Truskill post...Is that really how it works? Since I've dropped out of almost 40 games will it start putting me with quitters and people with bad connections? I've had the problem fixed and would like to know that the large sum of money I pay for my DSL and XBL isn't going to go to waste because I get put into crappy games anyway.
