I was playing split screen on a friends xbox with a friend, and he exited the game even though I told him not to because I didn't want to get the experience penalty, but he did anyway. I got penalized. It should have just penalized him twice for dropping two people, not me. I wanted to wait it out. That's the only thing I think they should change.

I can't even believe this is a topic.

WHO CARES?

Play the game. Enjoy it. Chill.

To the two poster above me... I couldn't agree any more. People are crying about losing one EXP and asking for it back? Are you serious? You can't go into a rumble pit game and come in 3rd place? One EXP point really makes no difference in the whole scheme of things, it sucks to lag out but that's life. -blam!- happens. Deal with it. Don't be crying on the bungie forums for your one EXP back because you have a weak internet connection or you lose power in your area. It happens to everybody.

I have a -2 after having to reset the console after it froze due to dishonest players using standby. (both games were reported)

So not only was I cheated out of a game - but I was punished for the actions of some scum bag cheater.

Tbh it's stopped me playing Lone Wolves as the standby seems to be a much more common occurance in games over level 42.
While it's annoying that I have negative exp it's not half as annoying as the standby - it's a shame that some people are so desperate to rank up that they resort to cheating.

Are you serious about the standby in Lone Wolves... that's weird cuz I got to level 45 in Lone Wolves and 43 in slayer and I haven't gotten standbyed once yet (knock on wood).

I have -25, and I'm not going to lie, about 20 of that is from leaving
But it was when I first got halo, and it had to be within my first 50 games or so.

I "lost connection" as in... unplugged my cable instead of quitting.

I have lost connection a couple times but I always complete any game.

This seems contradictory.

Did you lag completely out of the game when you lost connection? If so, to other players, you quit (intentionally or not) and made the game unfair for them... hence the penalty.

I think the EXP penalty is a great system. Simple, yet effective.

Because you're ruining the game for those who remain in the game... If I go into Lone Wolves I want to play a 5 man FFA, not a 1v1 on The Pit.

As far as I know, EXP cannot be disputed and rightly so. If you're getting disconnected frequently due to conectivity issues related to your internal nework or ISP, you really should not be playing ranked team games until its fixed. Its the only way to be fair to others.

Changing the way things work will absolutely lend to abuse and we will be more unhappy than happy.

As far as losing power, I have a UPS with my console, switch, router, TV, and stereo attached to it. It gives me about 15 to 30 minutes runtime if the power goes out. I've benefitted from it at least twice.

I concur.
The experience penalties are fair and just. Quit a game, even if you're one against four? Too bad. Why not stick it out, do your best and really give yourself a challenge? I've had people either get dropped or leave on me a handful of times and we still finished the game. Sometimes we lost, others we won.
If your connection is bad, it's not that hard to fix it as Woodsie illustrates. Very easy and inexpensive to do so.

What I don't get is that I've never quit or been dropped from a game once and I have two penalty points. I'm kind of curious as to how that happened...

I like that they do something to try and reduce quitters. I see far less than i did in Halo 2. If they do quit, then so be it, they get a point and I challenge myself to do as well as I can, even if I'm left alone in a BTB game.

I actually got disconnected twice during games last night. If anyone is to blame, it's my cable provider. If the problem isn't resolved tonight, they will be getting an angry call from me. Which is what many of you should do if your ISP is causing the problem. you might want to check out your hardware as well. My cable provider has replaced my cable modem 3 times since I've had the service. these devices are not infallable.

FWIW, I think I've figured out where many of the phantom penalty points may be coming from. If your connection fails even for a moment in that you get the "Searching for new server" screen, you'll get penalized...even if you don't drop completely from a game. I've seen that screen maybe twenty, thirty times and I'm fairly certain that several of those were due to my ISP. So it explains where my 3 penalties come from. It may or may not be the same for the rest of you, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

A warrior does not give up what he loves but he finds the love in what he does.

I have -24 experience penalties and it's bull because I only left one game and that was my third team doubles game when my partner quit, so I quit..thinking that if he quit and no one was left I shouldn't get a penalty...but I did. I haven't left a game since but here and there I get disconnections once in a while since I use wireless internet which is not as reliable as a straight connection which I am looking to do instead so I quit disconnecting. 24 points isn't that much but I would rather have it then not and keep my hard earned points. Bungie should at least be able to determine a disconection and not penalize you for them or at least every other one or something.
