bah

I think mods should have an emergency "He's gone rampant!" button in case someone gets out of control. They would be warned only to use it in extreme cases like if a troll is making multiple posts or something along those lines. I wouldn't give them any IP powers since that just wouldn't seem right.

Mods should have some form of back up as rip said, but should only use it in those extrem cases.

They tend to get too far immolated before they reach their target. They're great for dealing people across the street, though.

Yes, but not everyone has a static connections. And I agree with D Von, after what went on, the mods just need a button that destroys all users…

I'd say temp ban by ID - screw IP.

The advantage of a unified forum over the original b.net protocols (back in the BNA days) is that multiple-account wanks could always come back until we got in touch with the man to block an IP or range... not so with a forum. They can make a new account, but that definitely defeats the purpose, no? Combined with an IP range, I'd think banning IDs for 24 hours would be plenty good fun.

if moderators are to be trusted, they should definitely have the ability to bestow 24 hour (or even less) vacations to those who need to seriously rethink their actions. If someone has shown themselves to be unable to play nicely, then perhaps it's time fo petition the man for account revokation or harsher measures. Unless the man would rather not get involved...

Either way, 24 hour vacation ability is perfectly acceptable for both supported and unsupported moderators. No blood, no foul, right?

While banning can be circumvented, I think most people won't know the methods to do that.

Anyway, I think permanent IP bans would give mods too much power. ElBastard seems to have the right idea for that. I think mods have a tendency to take themselves and this forum a little too seriously (Stosh, you didn't even let me engage in a kindly debate. Shame on you.) Spam and arguing are the ONLY reasons this forum is remotely worth checking, and that's the same thing Mods have pledged themselves in a jihad against.

Don't let mods hurt our fun. They live here and are, therefore, incapable of rational thought.

Your conversation was stupid, off-topic, and anything but kind. You were basically attacking Live Killa because he said he wasn't childish or something. What kind of debate is that? All you wanted was attention. Conversations or debates such as those should be discussed privately via the b.net messaging system.

Anyway I don't believe we need the power to IP ban either. 5-24 hour account lockage works for me.

@ Scipio:
The mods here have done (and are doing) a top notch job. With the amount of crap they have to put up with, I wonder why they haven’t gone insane and started murdering people. And while debates are certainly a healthy and fun activity to divulge in, you have to realize that most of the people here view "debating" as screaming at eachother and calling eachothers mothers various un-imaginative explicatives.

That said, I think it should be more of a progressive type deal. First you get a personal warning PMd to you by a mod. If you continue, you get a 24h vacation, like Elbastard was saying. And if you continue even after that, then you get either your pass revoked or your IP banned.
JMHO.

[edit] D'oh! Stosh beat me to the draw. He said pretty much all that needed to be said. Damn me and my slow typing!

Mods have a tough job here, and I salute them for it. They have to deal with idiots and off-topic stuff while keeping there cool. Our "debate" which was in no way a debate(stosh summed it up pretty well) should of never began. And I am almost positive you speak for no one when you say "Spam and arguing are the ONLY reasons this forum is remotely worth checking." These forums are great and were great before you came, and before the b.net relaunch(though not as great). I don't think many people would be here if it was just spam and arguments.
