While Halo 2 can and will kick ass, will it be the same classic that we know and love? In Halo LAN games with your buddies, or your buddy's buddy who you hate, but you play with anyway, everything was slow and well thought-out. Everybody [usually] takes the game seriously, and works together. But some things I have noticed about any game online give me reason to believe it just won't be the same.
All games I have played that have the "Hot-Drop" feature that allows you to join games in progress, people seem to take less seriously, and therefore, not work together as much. It just doesn't have the personal feel to it. With games that have staging rooms, you have to wait to get into a game, so you take it more seriously. Unreal Championship was notorious for this; not only was there almost no stratagy, but since you can jump into any game at any time, if you start losing, you quit. I realize that all games have this problem, but hot drop games especially.
Also, faster paced games have less strategy in them. You have less of a life span, and crap happens so much faster, it's almost senseless to come up with a new strategy constantly. Slower games, like Mechassault, take longer, and therefore allow more in-depth plans. Also, inexperienced players are at risk with faster paced games. While they may have an idea what they are doing, with much more going on faster, those who got mowed down in Halo are doomed for Halo 2.
Other than these potential problems, Halo 2 will mimic Halo in damn-near every way. The Bungie crew is working hard to get it as close to the LAN experience as possible. Talking smack, scratagizing, -blam!-ing, the whole nine yards.
Anybody have any fun concerns or LAN experiences you'd like to share??
