I recommend buying "Apache, MySQL, and PHP Web Development for Dummies" by Jeff Cogswell. It covers configuring and securing an Apache server on Windows and Linux, SQL databases, PHP, Perl, and CGI stuff. I'm trying to learn from it, but I'm incompetent and have very little room to hone my skills.
Oh, and if HTML can do anything cool like interact with SQL databases, sorry. It's a really basic language, and with a week of practice and a good reference site/book you could build an okay website with it. The basics can be learned in about 2 hours, so I'm really confused as to why you measure HTML skill in years, unless there's this huge section of HTML that I've missed, which is entirely possible.
Well, there's CSS, but I like to think people would mention that they're working with that, and not just HTML. Or you could be talking about XML, but again.. bleh. I'm rambling.
