Hello, i'm a first year student when it comes to html and know nothing about sql or cgi, i was wondering if anyone would know of a place (on the web) where i could easily learn this stuff. I'd like to have a way to post information into the databases such as users, passwords and like news, and have it show up on the site and i have no idea on how to do this. Any help putting me in the right direction would be apprieciated.

You can check out my site to see my html experience (which is currently under construction) here:

I recommend buying "Apache, MySQL, and PHP Web Development for Dummies" by Jeff Cogswell. It covers configuring and securing an Apache server on Windows and Linux, SQL databases, PHP, Perl, and CGI stuff. I'm trying to learn from it, but I'm incompetent and have very little room to hone my skills.

Oh, and if HTML can do anything cool like interact with SQL databases, sorry. It's a really basic language, and with a week of practice and a good reference site/book you could build an okay website with it. The basics can be learned in about 2 hours, so I'm really confused as to why you measure HTML skill in years, unless there's this huge section of HTML that I've missed, which is entirely possible.

Well, there's CSS, but I like to think people would mention that they're working with that, and not just HTML. Or you could be talking about XML, but again.. bleh. I'm rambling.

lol well thanks for the tip, i think i'll buy that book right this min off of amazon. I agree HTML is easy but the reason i have a course is its required for graduation plus now i actually know what i'm doing, well when it comes to HTML at least. I hope to use php soon. Oh and yes we covered CSS as well and i understand that, gotta love CSS.

It covers a lot of markup langauges, and server side scripting as well.

Good Luck.
