If you ask me, you do deserve respect. I'm a believer that everyone does until they prove otherwise. I give people respect when I answer their questions, so I expect the same.
This, I think, is part of your problem. When dealing with a 3-million user internet forum (assuming about 600,000 or so being currently active), with around 70% of those users being morons, trolls, flamers, screamers, or otherwise rule breakers, your philosophy does not work. Giving polite, respectful explanations for every locked thread and moving every misplaced thread is simply not feasible given the incredibly high volume of new threads created here. Say what you want about the ways to fix that problem elsewhere, but that's not what this current thread is about. The way things are right now, "giving respect" to every single member "until they prove otherwise" is not only impractical, but pretty much impossible.
Perhaps, despite your claimed three-year tenure on this site, you are unfamiliar with moderating tools. To do anything except lock a thread is tedious and takes time -- time in which ten new bad threads will have been created. The simple fact is that the moderators here are ridiculously fair and never outright insulting. For you to take offense at anything said by Recon implies a level of sensitivity that probably means you shouldn't be here. I also don't want to turn this into a thread about Recon, but I want you to know that the other day, he MSN'd me just to tell me that he had disagreed with me in a thread in the Halo 3 Forum, and to give me a chance to respond to his arguments. For you to now say that he is generally disrespectful is kind of shocking to me. He, like pretty much everyone else who spends a lot of time on these forums, is playful, sarcastic, and sometimes curt out of necessity. But I have never seen any disrespect by him towards anybody who didn't already lose any respect they might have had.
I know that you want a better answer than "suck it up" or "deal with it," but unfortunately, that IS the answer. Bungie culture, and thus its community's culture, has always been more along the lines of the playful, sarcastic, friendly jabbing insults that you now complain of. For goodness' sakes, Bungie's corporate motto is "Non facete nobis calcitrare vestrum perinæum" which is Latin for "Don't make us kick your ass." Think of it as being treated the same as you would be if you were hanging out with a bunch of guys drinking beers in a bar somewhere -- not at a wine-and-cheese tasting with a bunch of stuck-up yuppies.
I know that you've said previously that you don't really care anymore, but I have to wonder why you keep responding in this thread. Are you trolling to keep it alive, or do you still care? If you do, then let me give you a piece of friendly advice: if you expect a Nordstrom-like culture where employees (and, as you call them, "affiliates") bow and scrape to petulant customers, then perhaps the Bungie.net website is not the place for you.
