Specifically, Intel Processors. More specificially, an Intel 1.60 GHz Pentium e2140 processor.

I've googled on the subject and have only seemed to find stuff around Overclocking Results. It seems like I'm missing a simple feature, but I can't find it.

plz help meh. :(

If you have to post on a forum asking somebody how to overclock, don't do it. Definitely do your research before you give it a go. Granted, it's not that hard once you know what you're doing, and the ins and outs of your BIOS, but you really need to do some research, at least, the basics.

Eh, I found a website with stuff on overclocking. I'm already having problems with it, but I'll just bring it up there.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I got lucky; my mobo came with an overclocking program. I brought it up to 108%. Wish I could help you Terin, sorry. :(

I can't access the bios for my computer. It's a Dell computer (I have no choice, just trying to get the most out of it) and all that appears on the boot screen is

F2 Boot Menu
F12 Setup Menu

Boot chooses which hard drive, and Setup chooses an OS. Ah well, something must be out there on the tubes of the internetz.

  • 10.10.2007 5:27 PM PDT

I belive on a Dell after you hit f12 you use alt-p to change pages in the bios

Can't overclock OEM computers through BIOS.

#1 Reason why OEM=phail.

You can always go the software route. I had a store bought at one time that was a P4ht 3.2ghz clocked to a stable 3.6 on stock cooling using this. While your at it get a copy of this to adjust your fan speeds also.
Just beware of what your doing and watch you temps.

Using software is not as reliable as doing it through the BIOS for a few reasons.

1. When overclocking through the BIOS your CPU is overclocked the second your computer is restarted and kept overclocked until you reset your BIOS etc.
- When you overclock using software it is not shown in "my computer" properties, Your CPU is not kept overclocked during PC boot. Its only when you logon when your CPU overclocks.
2. If you overclock using software, it may crash or become unresponsive resulting in a computer crash. This won't happen if overclocking through the BIOS
3. It may have a bug and randomly change your CPU's clocking speed which could potentially do critical damage to not only your CPU but possibly other PC components.
4. You should never mess around with fan speeds unless you know what you are doing, as it could also do damage to your CPU.

Here in Australia, Dell sells their PC's in a way so you can customize them yourself. If you have one of those Dell PC's, you may be able to buy a new motherboard which will allow you access into the BIOS so you can overclock your cpu. But its recommended that you DON"T overclock your CPU further than the manufacturers clock as it shortens the CPU's life significantly.

My advice, start saving and get a new processor (and new mobo if required)
Also, its good to see another Aussie on these forums, Fake, and if you don't mind me asking, what part of Aus are you from?

Just as I was about to comment on "How the f++k you know I'm from Australia", lucky for me I read over my post. Oh how stupid I would of looked if I didn't :).

I live in Newcastle, NSW. I love it here, possibly the best place in all of NSW, possibly even Australia. Was ashame that I missed out on seeing the Pasha Bulker or whatever that ship is called, But I hear the rudder snapped of and is still their, perhaps I can go for a swim and get a glimps :).

Oh, and I live in Adelaide, SA. I LOVE it here, I live 2 mins from the beach, and my family owns a MASSIVE block of land near Pt. Wakefield (small country town about an hour and a half drive from Adelaide) so we go there and ride motorbikes.
So yeah, Im 13, and I can already drive a car and a motorcycle :).

I won't be able to build a computer for some time, so I'm stuck with others computers right now. I guess I'll try boosting the GHz up to 2.0, thanks for the help everyone.

You will get more performance in games by overclocking your GPU rather than your CPU, perhaps you should try doing that? there is plenty of software which will allow you to overclock your GPU, and its safer than overclocking your CPU.

First you hijacked a thread to post a link to your site.

Second because I'm a nice guy I go to the site to critique it.

Why do i have to listen to your crappy music when I open your link.

Ah, you know, I've never been on a dirt bike before. Although I have taken my old ride out on some trails before. I got a lot of weird looks (I love it when people think I'm crazy) for riding a cruiser down a trail in the woods. But it was pretty fun nonetheless. By the way that gives me an idea. If anybody sees of video of a guy launching a crotch rocket with knobby tires off a hill sometime in the probably not near future, that will be me.

careful with the overclocking, it shortens your processor life, and if over-done, in will burn itself up and you will see smoke through the fan...

I stated this before, most chips are actually underclocked. The Allendale core (C2D E4500 and below) are designed for this. You can clock them pretty high, without adverse effects. Now with the Pentium 4s, I'd be wary.

Also with that E2150, if you did overclock it, you should be able to get over 2.4GHz.

Remember Noble. Remember Reach.

If you have to ask how to overclock, the answer is YOU DON'T. You are extremely likely to just screw something up, and end up with a fried processor.
