Anyone who's read Halo: First Strike will know what i'm taking about here:

Numerous occasions throughout the book explain Cortana's awareness at her stressed processes and memory. The combined Data of the Halo Construct, The Flood, and the Covenant findings (the enemy AI, the plasma turret data, Etc.), she's incessantly "worried" about her..."physical" (?) well-being. She's worried about her lifespan being shortened due to her compressing all this data, and her experimenting with the AI-copying software she stripped from the Covenant AI on board the Unyielding Heirophant.

Is anyone concerned as much as i am about her fate? What is to come of our witty, sultry, beloved construct? How will the burden of her compressing all the data affect her in H2?

Personally, Cortana's my favorite character, besides Sgt. Johnson and Yayap (from H:tF).

MC kicks ass, but i tend to stray from the typical.

Sorry, I haven't read it yet, but I am going to buy it soon. Just tell me, where does the story begin? I will let you know what I think of Cortana when I read it.

First Strike picks up where the game left us, and spans the smpty space between the end of the Maw and what we've been shown from the E3 demo for halo II. It's a good read, the Fall of Reach was my fave.

E-mail me when you finish, if you choose. Check my profile.

I think she will be ok once she gets back to earth, and is relieved off all her data. I think it is kinda -blam!- how cortana will only live 7 years. I am just starting to get attached.

I think Cortana will find a way to "live" beyond her expected seven year "lifespan". In the last book after she striped the enemy A.I. apart she copied some of it to herself. While she was doing this she was mulling over the ups and downs of doing so, and one of those ups was that she would be able to store alot more data and not in the long-run think herself to death as most smart A.I.'s do after seven years.

Cortana is pretty cool which makes you wonder if the humans arent working on some sort a tech to make them last say... a lifetime. If Halo goes any farther than Halo 2 (like forrunner bastards want to kill humanity HERE WE GO AGAIN). I would be sorely diappointed to see cortana leave.

Whatever the ending for Cortana is I'm sure Bungie wouldn't create another character to fill her place in the game if she were to "vamoos". I think that they know what they're doing and will do it right whatever it is.

Couldnt they just make another copy of Cortana like a new "baby" cortana, after all she is just an AI.
