Ok, I noticed all this fuss going on and I want this new Halo CE. I bought Halo for the PC last year. Since I bought it last year, can I still download the files and play with this game with the new features? Can I use the game I bought last year or do I have to go out and spend $50 on a whole new game (CD/CD Key) that lets you use the CE and editing kit? I'm confused.

You must have a valid HaloPC CD-Key to install HaloCE. HaloCE software costs you no money.

First, no u do not need to buy another cd. U use the cd key from ur Halo PC copy. Second, plz plz plz go to http://www.gearboxsoftware.com and ask them for help. I now the info, but they are brains (especially the one and only god BAKA). Now, before u download, u will need other tools. U will need either 3ds max or G-max (if G-max, u need chimp exporter over at the gearbox forums) to create maps. As well, i highly recommend going over to halomods.com and downloading all of kirk4's tutorials on Halo CE map making. They are for 3ds max, but the only difference is the material editor (which u will learn about soon enough) as i have stated before, plz pm me on bungie.net if u have ANY, ANY questions about Halo CE. I will be more than happy to give u essay format answers if u so desire.

Thanks a lot, I like to hear I don't need to spend any money. I'm in line right now waiting to download the Editing Kit, but if you can, quickly explain to me what 3ds max, G-max, and chimp exporter are? I don't know what those are. I felt PMing you might be a pain for you to write back to because it seems your on the forums right now and will probably get this message very soon. Thanks I really appreciate it.

I'm reading a tutorial and it seems that new comers to level designing are going to have a very tough time understanding all this. I, personally, would like to design levels, but it seems to be much too complicated. Arg, I'll try it but there is so much stuff to do!

ok first, i will make this quick, and i apreciate the thought of not pming me. Ok, 3dsmax is made by discreet software. It is used to design games plain and simple. It usually costs 1500 bucks, but discreet also released a gamers version called G-Max. Have u ever used autoCAD?? They are all vertex based drawing programs. Now, the problem with G-Max is their is no way to make a .jms file (the type of file that tool.exe, the tool that comes with HEK to create ur map) in G-Max. So, you need an exporter. What an exporter does is it is like a tac on program that allows you to create a .jms file. Now, the best way to find out how to use it is to go to the gearboxsoftware.com forums, and search Chimp 1.5. The program is made by Baka (who is a god). Any quesions can be asnwered by him. His latest version of Chimp will allow you to export your g-max file as a .jms, import .wrl files, and check to see what the slope of your walls are (so people cant walk where they shoudlnt). This may seem very confusing right now, however, that is why u must download Kirk4's tutorials on making a map from start to finish. These can be grabbed at http://halomods.com. He is a very excellent teacher, but be forwarned that u cannot see which buttons he is pushin, only the area he is in, so u must do a bit of guess work, if if that doesnt work, ask ME. Do not read the cortana.org tut. It is for brainiacks with the IQ of Einstien. I do not understand most of it, but some is helpful for reference. Anyways, keep asking questions if you are having probelsm. I have only been doing this for 3 weeks, and most times i just stare at my comps screen for 5 hours and figure out the problem.

I really appreciate you explaining it to me and I'm happy to find out what I was seeking, but honestly, I'm not up for the challenge. It seems to be very time consuming and very frustrating. It looks insanely hard to do. I really appreciate your help.

All u need to do is look at it is the thing moka. it is very simple once u are done ur first map, but it isnt for somebody who wants to go "i want a map... PRESTO" it does take effort, but by putting effort in, u may dsign something that u are recoginzed for by over 200 people. That is what is so interesting about map making, testing your skills and being rewarded with the recongnition of other. And it really isnt insanely hard to do. All u need to do is follow the tutorials from kirk to the T, and everything will go all irhgt. I suggest u at least look at the tutorials before giving up, because Halo CE is jus that much better than Halo PC, even if you dont wann amke maps.

Moka,

Halo CE is worth it, theres no excuse not to use it. Its a simple download, click the setup, and install.

Its an uphill battle for editing, at the start. I wouldn't give up just yet, as we are all new to the HEK. Once we have some more experienced users finding things out, you will find out that it really isn't that hard to add new weapons, vehicles. I suppose you would want to start with mapping though. Heres a word of advice: don't start complicated, you'll only frustrate yourself. Keep it simple the first time, baby steps my friend, baby steps. Once you've compiled your map and have it working in Sapien, its all downhill from there, very easy. Its a great feeling to play your map ingame. So please, don't give up just yet. :)

Ok, ok guys... you've convinced me! Maybe next week when my Summer vacation starts, I'll have more time then. I got finals and stuff this week to study for. Let me Live, can you give me a link to "Kirk to the T"'s tutorial? Thanks.

I also want to know guys... if you get Halo CE will you be able to play Halo PC? Is it like a one time thing, when you download CE you will never be able to go back to PC? I know the two aren't compatible (I.E. playing custom maps on Halo PC), but if you get bored of CE can you still play with people on Halo PC?

Don't waste your time downloading that garbage. Hardly anyone is playing that game and most of the servers are empty. The community is in here and other forums begging people to play because they are bored. What they aren't telling you is that if a server is running a custom map and you connect to it without having that map, you get booted. Also the map files are huge to download. The leading is random during the game in Halo CE. The fast shaders are a joke. They haven't improved anything. Their are still some serious bugs and Gearbox isn't releasing anymore patches.

You are better off sticking it out with Halo PC because at least you can find a few almost full servers. In Halo CE, you are lucky to find a server that isn't empty.

Yes,HaloPC and HaloCE can happily live together on one computer. You can play either one whenever you want, though not at the same time. You still need the Halo CD and a valid key.

Often I play on the Damepo (in Japan) servers, which are still HaloPC, because they have a low ping for me.

Download HaloCE, try out the new maps and have some fun.

Ignore that other idiot. That's not the real TalkingElmo. I registered here back in January.

Anyway... yeah, if you get HaloCE, you can still keep HaloPC on your computer. They live in separate directories and are pretty independent. If you want to play at 4am and there aren't many people on CE, you can always fire up the old version and play that one instead. Although I must say that it kind of sucks going back and not having certain features in the old version. I really like the Show Bros. feature (press F3 and it will display the names of your teammates all the time.. pretty handy).

Speaking of HaloCE, you should stop by the Gearbox forums (http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com) and check out some of the screenshots of New Mombassa and the Halo 2 mod. It's not done yet, but several users have been working on making a New Mombassa multiplayer map, complete with many Halo 2 features like the Battle Rifle, gauss Warthog, etc. It looks really cool.

One thing you should know, though. When you install HaloCE, it won't keep your old settings from HaloPC. You'll need to make a new profile within CE, so make sure you have all your video settings and everything the way they were on HaloPC. Many people who complained of problems when it first came out later found out that they hadn't configured their settings correctly.

Edit: oh, and making maps isn't as bad as you might think. If you download the HEK (Halo Editing Kit), it comes with a big tutorial that teaches you the whole map-making process, including how to use 3DS Max. I'm going through it right now myself. It's a lot to learn, but it's do-able if you stick with it.
