I'm not really sure this is the right forum to be asking this...

Anyway, Bungie said in the latest info posting that levels are based in large part on performance. IE, if your team is winning but you're negative every time you won't level up very much. They don't explain exactly how it works, but it's also based on play-style. I do feel your pain though, my level 42 TS rank remained the same through five wins straight where I was never less than +10, then we lost once and I dropped to 40. :P *shrugs*

LMAO Matt, wrong forum ;-)

Yeah we won like 20 straight games and you ranked up one level lol. Everyone's been having this problem apparently. I think it may be server side problems, or just the rank system being very very screwy.

Nineteen wins and one level up. What a JOKE. The ranking system is BROKEN. We as a community at least would like to know the math behind the ranking system. Something like this would be nice to reference. Although you may feel differently now, trust me in that it won't be very fun when everyone has similarly high ranks. Halo 2 had ranks that were almost impossible to achieve, ranks reserved for some of the best players. This level structuring gave players something to strive for and helped keep Halo 2 alive for so long. Your Military system just can’t replace that. Please save Halo 3; give it a fun, challenging and competitive ranking system.

RIP Halo 2.

Playing Double Team last night on another account with a friend from 12AM to 5AM, we won all but two games. And I only went from 12 to 16 even though we matched 25s and such. But today playing splitscreen on two different accounts I watched my friend go up 5 levels in 3 games at level 20.

Things do seem weird. I played maybe 12 Team Slayer games and won all of them except for one. Didn't level up or down once, while the other players in my party leveled up once and down twice with that one loss. Then I played 4 games of Team Doubles and went from a 14 to a 21.

My only reasoning for this is level difference between party members. We were separated by 18 levels during the TS games and by only 3 for the TD games. But this doesn't seem to be the case for a lot of people.

i don't think it would be possible to explain the entire complexity of the ranking system that Bungie uses.

Can we get some clarification regarding the skill rankings? Thank you.

I'm sorry, but you must have only done average, 'cause if you did great you would have leveled up.

Levels in Halo 3 are NOT something to grind out.

You have to be good to get levels now.

Edit: Wait a second, this isn't the Halo 3 forums!
