It sounds weird to me. I think they should keep the health bar. I mean I also change my tatics when I have low health, now how will I know how much health I have left.

Well, first off, Bungie said it was just a test, and the HUD may change completely before release. I think that if it stays the same, we will get used to it after a little bit. It'll be like have the same amount, because the shield is being made stronger, and recharging much faster. So, if it goes down to where your shield would be gone in Halo 1, it'd be like having an automatic health pack, since your shield would then recharge, and be back to full. It's actually sounding better to me, though just something to get used to.

Ya we really need Health, it would kinda dampen the gameplay for me.

There IS health. That display was a placeholder, it was not the final. Jumping to conclusions is hazardous to your health.

When your shields are down you still have health but theres no bar.

You see little flickers on your HUD showing your low on health and also the opponants can see this as an indication that you only need afew more shots to finish you off.

Basically, its a health bar, except you cannot see it on your hud.

Nice made up BS. They omitted it because it was not done, it was placeholder, read the update and FAQ.

its not BS! Some players asked Marty O'Donnell (i think) at e3 and thats what he said according to them.

i like the new system, although its obvious they're not done with it... the new HUD only shows the shield... IN REAL LIFE, THERE IS NO HEALTH BAR... i'm betting that even if your energy shield bar is all gone, you can still walk around (even with the bar empty)... and then if you get shot a couple more times, then you die... isn't that what frankie said a few updates ago? cmon guys...

Quote from an article:
First, there are no longer health bars. (However, this like everything else design related, is still up for internal Bungie debate.) Instead, when your shields pop you can survive a further two or three hits before you die. In my hour of playing, I never noticed this change affecting how I played the game. In fact I dare say that if you weren’t looking for it, you’d never notice it yourself.

Marty O’Donnel explained to me that this change was discussed and implemented because of the way so many of us played Halo 1. Think about how whenever you got hurt, you’d slow down and wait for your shields to recharge. The only change to the shield system were the new special effects seen when they pop and reactivate. Both are visible in first person to you, and in third person to all the hungry sob's waiting to kill you.

if you read the last update that frankie made it says the hud has been completed, some time before they said they just used a quick hud for the e3!
And it wasn't only armor i think it was more lik a mixture of health and armor combined, it wasnt so easy to kill them though!

I think the new hud (the finnal hud) will have armor and health only with a really changed look!
Not all health/armor huds have to look like those of halo 1

What do I think about it? I know that the demo was an unfinished model of Halo 2 and that even the HUD was not finished. It was also made like that so players couldn't expose the little secrets of Halo 2 yet. They wanted a fast action thing and dying alot so that nothing big would be exposed, or at least the player would not have enough time to expose every little thing. So I'll keep my opinion of not having a health bar until the final product does not have one at time of release. Thank you.

wouldnt the overcharge of a plasma pistol be the best weapon then?

Just because your shields down, it doesnt mean you die, u can still take alittle damage before you snuff it

Ash that was not someone directly from Bungie, that was someone taking an educated guess that the health is gone. The only thing that sounds remotely offical is the mentioning of Marty. Even then that does not mean the change is final. For all we know that may be the MP HUD, not SP.

IF they would make the hud without health, then i think it will be a lot harder to take out the armor, or else it would be to easy to kill!

More Impressions

One thing that I have yet to see mentioned by anyone, anywhere is the new shield/health system. Instead of the two bars for health and shield, there is now only one bar for shields. I was totally perplexed and dismayed by this, thinking that the shield/health system was probably one of the best innovations in Halo 1. So I had to ask a Bungie guy what it all meant. He told me that there IS health, but it's hidden under the covers for a reason. It (the health) will actually regenerate the same as shields, but FAR slower, and health doesn't hold out well against any weapon (a couple or few shots from any weapon will completely remove all health). He said that, once your shields were gone, they wanted you to know you were close to death (within a shot or two) and play it with that intensity of not knowing. Anyway, technically, it's not as big of a change as I first thought it was, and play still works largely the same, but I can not believe I haven't seen this mentioned more prominantly in people's impressions of the game.

Easy to kill? You mean like the first game? Removing the "health bars" from the HUD doesn't make it anymore easy to kill someone. Hell, you can remove the health bars from the HUD in Halo simply by placing a piece of tape over the health bars.

lol its easy to get somebodys armor out with a plasma pistol or plasma rifle!
so if it will be like that in halo 2 it will be easy to kill someone!

so if they only use armor i think that the power of the armor will be increased, but that will be reasonable since, youll get a new class armor!

DO YOU GET IT NOW???

PUT A PIECE OF TAPE OVER YOUR HEALTH BARS THE NEXT TIME YOU PLAY HALO.

Thank you.
