I got someone Halo as a gift for someone. They've been procrastinating playing it, talking about how it'll be boring and it's just like all the other games, and how he's played every bit of Doom so there'll be nothing new. He finally tried to install it today, and it just doesn't work. He says there's no error, it just doesn't install. I haven't seen it myself, so I can't really describe it.

So I'll get to the question. Halo came out 6 years ago on the Xbox, and I know it was tweaked because the team porting it knew it had to look better than the original if it wanted to get people to buy it when they could have it for the console. Well his computer is about 6 years old, and I know Halo PC is about 3 years old, so I'm wondering: Would a 6 year old computer be able to run a 3 year old port of a 6 year old game? Because he's worried his graphics card just isn't able to handle it, causing it not to install, and he won't let me try it on my(4 year old) computer, nor look at it.

Anyways, it's taken me months to get him to put the CD in. I don't suppose anyone could give me a definite answer as to whether or not it will run, or happen to know if this is some common problem affecting Halo PC.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Specs, please.

Halo PC is older than three years.
Does your friend actually have disk space to install it? Is he using a real CD key?
Is the disk scratched? CD/DVD-ROM drive working?
It could be any number of problems, but I doubt the age of the hardware would be one of them.

I don't know what the specs are specifically. I know it can't handle most current games.

It just apparently stops mid-installation. He works on computers and networks for a living, so his educated guess is the hardware. The CD is brand new, not taken out of the box until today. His CD drive works perfectly, since he can play other games. The first thing he'd check is memory, and in my experience, the installer should say "you're out of memory" and stopping mid-installation doesn't sound like a memory issue, unless the installer is somehow using too much RAM.

You need to find those specs.

Control Panel > System
and
Start > Run > Dxdiag

That sounds like you're running out of harddrive space, which is odd. If I remember correctly, Halo won't let you install without sufficient space.
Try deleting any old files that you don't need. The bigger the better.
Also, the installer won't just up and quit if it uses too much ram; it'll just go slower.

He lets noone touch his computer.

I'll pass on the tip to try deleting some old crap weighing it down tomorrow, when we're both awake.

Frog Blast the Vent Core!

I played Halo on a 5 year old computer about 3 years ago. Sure, all Spartans were gray blobs, but it worked.
