Why were humans noty invited to join, or forcedto join the glorious covenant when clearly we are superior to the grunts, jackals, hunters, and drones (and probably brutes) if only because were smarter. None of tose races could develop space travel as we have. So why were we not invited? There are several theories. 1. Humans had strength and compete in space combat so they would put up some fight, meaning they could be an excellent sacrifice. 2. Perhaps all the races were hunted to near extiction, then some surviors were force bred with new ideals, and then started off at the bottom of the hierarchy. 3. Or maybe its the most interseting theory ive come up with, but it comtradicts the books. There are 7 halos according to guilty spark at there are currently 7 Covenant Races (in the game only, 8 in the book, the Engineer). WHo knows though, wouldn't bve a game without enemies, still there should be an explanation.

From what I understand the humans were considered a threat to the Covanent's great journey because we were so near their Halo which was the symbol of peace between the Elites and the Prophets. So we were kinda considered to be the "Turks" to their "Midevil Roman Catholics".

For one i think this is an interesting question...but without the humans and covenant on different sides of the battlefield...there would be no halo. But still a very good thought

ahem,
The prophets and the elites ect used to be at war with each other.
Then the prophets found the forunner stuff and became leaders of their religion, which other races followed, ending their war. (convinient) (Explained in the mural scene in SE DVD)
The prophets want to goto the ark, and activate halo (s), therefore destroying their long standing enemies. the humans however, are the forerunner, so the prophets, fearing their "top place" in the covenant religion, stage a holy war on the humans.

Actually, the humans are not the forrunner... They seem to be designated as the 'reclaimer' race however.

Humans are most definetly a forerunner creation or just a group of forerunner that fled to earth.

The humans are the forerunners, but that isn't why humans aren't assimilated. It is because we are a pathetic race using outdated technology.

I don't think it's because we have primitive technology- take a look at brutes. Also, new races don't necessarily start at the bottom of the ladder, pointing to brutes as well. The book says that they are the newest species, but already they have started taking over from elites.
But its a good question, anyway...

  • 12.12.2004 5:18 PM PDT

It's generally a bad idea to say either way that humans are definitely the forerunners or definitely not the forerunners. I don't think that the humans are the forerunners; probably more of a client race or something, but it's still possible. It is possible that 343 GS wasn't told everything and simply assumed that the forerunners all died, when in fact some escaped to return to Earth or something.

It's probably more likely that they felt bad about destroying all life in the galaxy, and just in case life didn't restart all by itself, they seeded Earth, and deemed all Earth life "Reclaimers" in case of another Flood outbreak. Then the Covenant races happened to evolve independently anyway.

Why they want to wipe us out is another story.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

I think the humans/ forerunners are related, but they aren't one in the same.

Humans had to be affiliated with the Forerunner in some fashion. Tartarus couldn't touch the Index himself(After all, he probably would break protocol to do it himself, he obviously doesn't care too much what Guilty Spark would say about it), but Miranda and the Chief could.

The covenant don't believe the halo's are weapons they believe them to be sacred rings that will bring them onto their great journey. If you are saying the forerunners are the covenant's gods and the humans are the forerunners then why would the covenant start a war against their gods. In the first book the covenant send one message to the humans before attacking them. It was something like this, "The god's have willed your destruction and we are the instrument of their will." Why would their gods tell them to destroy themselves and the humans definetely never told the covenant to kill other humans.

The Prophets are dirty tricksters. They probably fear that the real Forerunners will ruin their "Great Journey", which they also probably know will kill everyone. Although, the cinematic at the beginning of Gravemind kind of conflicts with that. Regret mentioned that Penitent Tangent knew nothing of the Great Journey. Damn it. I guess I really have no idea why the Prophets would hate the humans.

None of the above. They are probably afraid of what the humans are capable of doing in the future...

Just a thought.

Thank you.
I dont think the humans are exactly the same as forerunners, but a client species, or they have evolved from the forerunners which originally fled to earth. Prophets want to kill humans because, if humans are proclaimed as the 'gods' quite simply, prophets wont be the boss anymore.

It's probably because the Ark is on Earth. The Prophets know about the vague location and purpose of the Ark (somewhere in human space, the purpose being the initiation of the Great Journey), but haven't told the other Covenant races. Probably to continue using them (the Prophets aren't the military power - the other Covenant races are). Think about it - the other Covenant races find out the location and purpose of the Ark, and they no longer need the guidance of the Prophets. They set out to find and use the Ark themselves.

An Elite mentions this somewhere in Halo 2 - something about the Humans not being offered a place in the Covenant. The Prophets are obviously hiding the truth from everybody else.

The Prophets use the Covenant as their personal army. They attempt to wipe out humanity because they fear that we will find - or worse - use the Ark. That's the reason we haven't been inducted into the Covenant.

The COVENANT belive they are sacred rings, what im saying is that the prophets made that up to gain the other species faith, ending their war, and making them rulers.

The prophets started a holy war against the humans because, if humans were proclaimed as gods, the prophets would lose their head role in the covenant heirachy.

The humans didnt tell the covenant to kill humans, the prophets did. The prophets Know the humans are forunners, or a "subspecies"
