EDIT: I've posted this on the Halo 3 forums since it seems more appropriate over there.
Howdy, Bunglings.
I'm having a Forge issue that appears to be a bug, and I've yet to find it addressed anywhere on Al Gore's Internet. Even if you can't help, I thought I'd make the developers aware of the issue. If I should post this elsewhere, just point me in the right direction. Thanks.
THE PROBLEM
On a map (Last Resort) that I have been tweaking for a while, I can suddenly no longer add any new items, be it weapon, vehicle, scenery, starting point, or goal. When I attempt to add a new item--any item--it makes a honking noise and flashes the message: "Cannot place object. Too many on map."
However, this is simply not true.
I have not reached the map limit for these items, nor have I even remotely approached my budget limit. In fact, the map is now more sparsely populated than it originally was. It simply will not allow me add a new object. Even if I delete an object, say a battle rifle, it will not even allow me to place that same object again. All I get is the aforementioned honk and message.
To recap, I can MOVE currently placed objects to my heart's content, but I cannot ADD new objects, though no limits have reached.
SOME BACKGROUND
I've been playing around with a pretty heavy modification of Last Resort for a while now. In the process, I've gone through several revisions, mostly just experimenting with various Forge features, setting up game types, writing a birthday message in fusion coils, etc.
This "cannot place object" issue cropped up last night while doing nothing more than trying to place a crate on the map. Over the course of various saves, I'm guessing that I had been screwing around on this map for a total of about 4-5 hours.
TROUBLESHOOTING EFFORTS
I tried the following to resolve the issue:
>> 1. Saving and reloading the map.
>> 2. Renaming the map.
>> 3. Changing teams and/or the gametype.
>> 4. Power cycling my 360.
>> 5. All of the above in various combinations of blissless redundancy.
>> 6. I've even tried reloading a previous save of the map from much earlier in the edit process, and here's where it gets extra weird. Upon loading an early save of the map, it would let me add and edit as though everything was functioning properly. However, after an hour or so of editing, the issue started again while I was attempting to place a starting point. I had intentionally modified the map differently than I had when the issue first appeared.
MY UNFOUNDED THEORY
It almost seems as though I've reached some sort of hidden "add/remove limit". It's as if I've been playing around with this map for so long that it just won't allow me to edit it any further (though that's not entirely true because it will allow me to MOVE currently placed items).
I'm happy to start over from scratch now that I know exactly what I wish to build, but I'm nervous that I'll reach this point again before I've finished placing everything. That might cause me to lose me mind, which would be a tragedy because how can I play Halo if my wife is feeding me applesauce through a straw.
Thanks in advance. Let me know if any more info is needed.
Ron
