I'm wondering, why does bungie warn and sometimes ban people who make threads that violate such little rules like all caps title or pointless thread.
Simply put, Bungie reserves the right to discipline those who do not follow the rules as they see fit. They have the right to do this not only because this is their site, but also because as a prerequisite of membership, each and every one of us agreed to abide by Bungie's rules or subject ourselves to the appropriate punishment, regardless of whether or not we actually read the Terms of Use and Code of Conduct.

How does people making threads that don't entirely agree with bungie's "thread standards" bother anyone. if you don't like them, then just don't go onto the thread. also, what exactly is the big problem with spamming? Rules are put in place to keep order and to clearly delineate between proper and improper conduct. They also ensure that everyone has the best possible chance to enjoy the forums. Rules break down when they are applied selectively. While the specific disciplinary action may vary depending on the severity of the infraction, ideally all improper actions are dealt with according to the rules. Therefore breaking the rules in any way, even if it may seem somehow "less severe", is still subject to disciplinary action. This thread is an excellent example of what someone might consider a "lesser" infraction. It does not insult anyone directly and does not contain any offensive content, however it has been posted in the wrong forum. This means it can now be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary action (i.e. being moved to the Bungie.net Community Forum, or being locked).

Honestly, compared to other forums I have visited, the mods here are incredibly patient and fair. Because of their devotion to Bungie and these forums, they do a tremendous job while carrying out what essentially amounts to thankless volunteer work.

Because the public forums are supposed to be a place of intelligent discussion of intelligent topics.
I say 'supposed to' because that's not what it is. People like McAdam here go around, merrily screwing that up.
Plus, if you post a thread title in all caps, most people will generally think little of you and your thread, entering not with the intention to discuss your chosen topic, but to flame you for being a short-bus riding lobotomised monkey who, by bizarre chance, happens to look exactly like a human.

Proper forum etiquette is a nice thing to have and sometimes that curve needs to be enforced. If you'd like to look at nothing more than walls of pointless text and countless threads of spam... feel free to send the Moderators plane tickets to some exotic island... oh, lots of money for drinks too.

I prefer 'short-bus riding lobotomised monkey' as an insult, but that works too.

No, it's still idiots that are the problem, not honestly stupid people, at least they "can" learn. Idiocracy has no cure as of yet. Though a couple hours worth of bashing over the head works for a short period of time. Try a frying pan and fishing pole, they work well as a bashing combo.

Also; no going on exotic vacation trips without me mister Michael. I mean come on, who else is going to get drunk and berate all the locals with you?

okay, so bungie.net will warn/ban you for saying noob or posting a thread in all caps, but you can be an -blam!- and compare people to lobotomised monkeys and make fun of people with mental handicaps and not get blacklisted. wow bungie, your logic of discipline is so overwhelmingly just!

I have to be honest. Despite its apparent simplicity, this post is one of the best arguments I have ever seen regarding rule enforcement. Your logic is excellent here, with just enough use of hyperbole to make things sound unjust.

The problem with your argument, of course, is that you are complaining about moral unfairness. There are two responses to what you've complained about:

1) This is not meant to be a "nice" forum where spamming and general forum misbehavior is fine as long as you do not hurt anybody's feelings. Outside of the written rules, moderators do not make judgments about the content of a post. As long as no rules are broken, you can say whatever you want. The rules that are in place are there to encourage discussion and discourage posts that add nothing to the conversation taking place here. Thus, the rules you see are those involving spam, unnecessarily attention-grabbing posts, trolls, and posts or words that serve no purpose except to inflame others' emotions. Once it's determined that none of those rules have been broken, the moderators wisely refrain from making judgments about the actual content of a post and allow the discussion to proceed.

Despite the frequent reminders that "Bungie controls everything, you have no rights," you are pretty much free to speak your mind in these forums about any subject you want, provided that you are complying with the general purpose of these forums as I mentioned in the previous and the following paragraph. I would argue that if it were any other way, you would not enjoy your time here nearly as much.

2) If all you want to do is write spam and all-caps sentences, I suggest that you open up a handy word-processing program and do so to your heart's content. The purpose of a discussion forum is, as the name rather explicitly implies, discussion. If your post leaves little to say except "wow 10,000 'Z's in one post, good job," then you have probably not entertained or engaged anybody but yourself. Once again, there are word-processing programs for that purpose. Here, you should seek to engage your fellow forumgoers's minds and enjoy the discussion in that way. Much like you have done here in the Community Forum.

Hope that answers your questions a little more fully.

Stupid Foman, triggering my conscience like that.
I apologise if you (mindlessmarv, McAdam) took any of my previous posts as personal insults. They aren't. They're general insults, against anyone who posts in such a manner.
I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to anyone in the past who I may have offended with my sarcasm and subtlety. Sometimes I forget this is a text-based forum and that such things often offend when intended to convey a sense of amusement.
But I sure as hell am NOT going to stop. It's too much fun.

Back on topic, again, this is the Internet, not play-school. You're expect to be able to converse like a human, not a monkey.

1. This is a BUNGIE forum so it's BUGNIE's rules.

2. Many times you get tricked, go into what you think is a genuine thread and then some moron starts "yelling" garbage in his all caps post. Waste of time.

3. What's the problem with spam? Are you serious? This is a Bungie forum. Bungie is a company with a highly respectable website and community forum. In order to maintain that image they have to make their website presentable. Imagine you just bought Halo 3 because your friend said to. You've never played another Halo game before and have no idea who Bungie is. It turns out you love Halo and want to learn more about it or maybe meet some people who love it as much as you do; you come to Bungie.net. Now imagine that you clicked on the Halo 3 forum and the first ten posts are all something along the line of "OMG TEH SNIPER IS SUX!" or "CUSTOM GAME BROWZER WER R U?" or "HALO 3 IS SUCK!" You would one, start to regret your purchase for a minute and two, likely not come back to this website.
Now isn't it much easier to come on here with strict moderators and see a "somewhat" cleaned up and respectable forum with posts from intelligent people that aren't cluttering up the page? Of course it is. That is why they want to keep it clean.
