for all of you out there that are halo 2 fanatics you will feel for me. I am not doing so good in school and i payed for it. one day my dad came home and saw that i got an f in english, and then the unexpected happened. he came up to me with my halo 2 cd and told me, " son, if you dont succeed in school this is what will happen to your life. Then he snapped the cd in half... i had never felt so bad since my dog died. I could not afford another copy and i was grounded and still am. so just do good in school and you wont get -blam!- over like i did... :(

That sucks. But better you learned the lesson from your parents than from life. Life is a unsympathetic teacher.

No offence or any thing but your dad's a -blam!-. He didn't have to snap it in halve a good video game is about 50-70 bucks doesn't he know you waited 3 years for it come out. He could have hid it from you and gave it back when you grades go up or on week ends.

I'm speechless...

If he loses his job do the following: "Dad if you don't get a job this might happen to your life," then promptly shatter something valuable like a bowling trophee or something...then call it even...maybe...

I don't really think thats true. Do you know how hard it is to snap a hard disk?!
I had to stick it in a crack on the sidewalk and stomp on it to break anysuch disk.

I am a halo2 fanatic, but I do not feel for you. While you may enjoy playing your video games now, in twenty years it will not matter. What will matter is your grades. Do you want to be a forty-year old failure in your parent's basement? I think not. You want a good job with a comfortable dwelling of your own. Your father did the right thing in my opinion, and is only trying to look out for you. Don't come on here and whine, go get them grades up! (And yes, I know of what I speak. My dad did the same thing to my starcraft CDs a couple years back :(...)

I agree with you, but I think his dad should have taken it away instead of breaking the disc.

Mark V, it really wouldn't have been as dramatic or cool if he didn't. He shouldn't have been getting bad grades in the first place(if it was tough he should have asked for help, I do it all the time), so it's not too unreasonable to not want to give it back even if the topic creator raised his grades.

Yeah... taking it wouldn't be as great of an effect. It would be like 'wow he took it. I have bad grades. damn'.... with this his dad has the disk and breaks it, and then compares it to him. That has a much greater psychological impact, because it is something tangible; you can see it break; hear the plastic snapping. Also it drives home the point that there are [i]consequences[i]. If he had just taken it, he could get it back. This way, it is gone, and he has to work for another one. Its better to work for a new game than it is to work to recover from flunking out of school.

hey tex thanks for the support, i understand why he did it and got the same, "you have to do good in school lecture like i always do. but oh well. im gettin extra help and stayin after school now. now that i think about it i was too obsessed with that game. i would be on for like 15 hours at a time, it was crazy. I cant believe i let moving colors on a screen control my physical and social life for the past month. but a few things that really pissed me off. one, i waited outside EB for 4 hours to get my copy of h2. two, i got into a really good clan with all my friends and three, i heard that same god damn "School & Life" lecture. lol . what ever i guess it was a good thing.

You think you got it bad? My dad was a teacher for fifteen years and a school administrator for seven. He currently is the technology coordinator at my school. You can imagine what happens when I do poorly...
--
And i've had the same thing happen to me as did to you. Starcraft and Ravenshield both... SNAP!... oh well. for thebest I guess.

I shouldn't be talking anyway... I'm on academic probation. Damn.

Maybe the reason why you got an "F" in english was beacuase all you could write was covenant language from playing halo to much.
