This issue happens from time to time, but usually fixes itself within an hour or two.

First thing's first. What's your NAT set at?

This is odd, though. I've got the error message, too (with an open NAT) but it usually goes away with me leaving the lobby and going back in.

I would assume that your NAT is open or moderate considering you have played before, but my router decided to crap itself and go strict for unknown reasons (I had to buy a new one).

"but it usually goes away with me leaving the lobby and going back in." yeah thats what would happen to me as well but now it just stays there, iv let the xbox stay on for about 10-20 min but it still does not connect to the server.

the xbox 360 tells me that my NAT is open, halo 3 has always said my NAT is closed or set to Strict, this has never been a problem for me but.

iv spend a few hours looking over my modem settings, nothing i can see about opening my NAT, i tryed puting the settings to the defaults but that didnt help.

if no one has any ideas on what it could be then i was going to borrow someone elses modem and see if that helps.

When mine does that, I just reboot my 360, or just wait a bit. That tends to fix the problem.
