The enemy of my enemy shall die next.

I know the voices in my head are not real, but they have some great ideas.

Brown chicken Brown cow!

I didnt realise that there was a shortage in mods, just an increase in new users of Bungie.net due to Halo 3 being released. But that will drop again in a few months just like when Halo 2 was released.
Mods are prob just spread abit thin on the ground at the moment.

I didn't know evilcam left. Though, I wasn't online much last week (Bronchitis ftl). I do know that his frustrations with the community have been growing. Maybe he was just having a bad day. :( Poor cam.

  • 10.19.2007 8:46 AM PDT

Don't send me group invites.

evilcam hasn't "left." He just hasn't been moderating as much. He's been really "busy" lately. Though like what TU said, his frustration with the community had been high over the past couple weeks.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Cam is taking a break that is all. He has not stepped down. So at anytime he can pop in and still lay down some law. I do not think it is as much a shortage as it is we are a bit busy right now with other things going on in our lives. The real deal though to help making it a bit better is to report infractions to us. That way we get to it quicker and we can get rid of the problem children faster. Once members start doing this you will see a huge change in the way things are around here. I just wish I had enough eyes and time to catch it all myself but I don't. :(

I think it would be helpful if, on their MSN profiles, moderators were to put a little message up that says something along the lines of "Moderating" or "Bungie.net." That would let members know ahead of time that a particular mod is online and available to moderate.

It has happened more than once that I've heard moderators and Bungie folks complain about people just sending them random links when they are busy doing something else. I also know how distracting it can be when I'm doing something else to get random messages -- and away messages don't discourage some people. So unless I'm sure that a mod is free and available, I don't bother them with links to bad threads. Recon and a few others are pretty good about putting up a "(Working)" message to indicate that they're not completely available to follow links to bad threads at that particular time. I think that something the opposite way (like a "Moderating" message) might help to encourage people to report threads more often.

Obviously, MSN is a personal thing, and mods shouldn't be required to do anything with their profiles, but it's just food for thought.

I'm sorry about poor evil cam. I didn't know he was taking a break. As for the rest of the staff, there needs to be a place where any moderator can go to check for things. It makes it difficult to contact a moderator when I have to search for which ones are online and then use their own contacts. That is why i used to post problems on bnetmods@gmail.com. Any moderator could go on and search messages. If we had another system like that, then it would be easier for moderators to find issues on this site. I personally do not contact moderators they way I used to because it is so hard to get in contact. By the time the mod recieves my message, it is useless to lock a post or sometimes even send the guy a warning. Recon agreed with me on this as well. I personally think I would report more things if I knew I could reach a moderator on here rather than get lucky if I see one.

This will never happen, which is why we need more ninjas. The majority of the mods don't even moderate, they're too busy or just don't care anymore. Don Wan was the last person appointed, and I've yet to see her moderate one single thread.

Achilles, Recon, TGP, Steve and I've seen Yoozel back in the mix over the last two weeks, but that's about it. Maybe Achronos is working on getting some more mods. If not, he should because the Halo 3 forum alone is like Thunderdome.

I've already seen a new mod. He works at bungie. Well... he's not new. But I've never seen him before.

Umm, kd5hw?
You spelled it wrong. Also, the modwatch is a good program, but only checks the last time a moderator posted, not logged in. Hardly a good gauge of whether a particular moderator is actually online and moderating. Thanks though -- anybody who didn't already know about that tool definitely should.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,

I know he's an employee. But so is Stosh and THE DON WON. I really don't know if he moderates. But he is a master forum ninja.

So maybe a new automated moderating system or better report system?

In my perspective, there isn't a shortage of moderators. More accurately, there is an excess of things that need moderation.
Let's make a decision without thinking about it concerning these things and then come to regret it later. That will be lots of fun.
