These are just prime examples of people not following the rules on our forums. In the Screenshots forum, these and more all caps topics were on the front page of the forum. I do not feel that ninjas are not working hard enough. However, I feel that we are not doing our part to report as much. Also I feel that the rules are not being enforced hard enough. I feel that bnet needs to pounce a little harder on those breaking the rules. A lot of new people are posting on these forums and these people just do not seem to care about the rules. I think we should have newer and easier ways to report threads (that's us doing are part) as well as ways of making the rules more visible (Moderators doing their part). Thus, by taking steps like these, bungie.net can be a better place.

Thanks for the heads up. All locked now, and warnings send out.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

You want us to be more strict? Ok I will. Just let me know of offending threads and I will deal out justice so harsh they will think it is the end of times. Just be ready for the flood of threads saying that we are being too harsh afterwards.

Oh and a new system would be a great idea for all of the community to be quasi mods. Everyone would be responsible for keeping this a great place to visit. I can picture it now. A system of carrier pidgeons with frickin lasers attached to their frickin heads. Oh man that would be so sweet.

Yeah, I tried to contact some of the mods earlier today, but the mod finder was down.

I don't know if I can be more strict. I use 3 day blacklists as warnings and 7 day blacklists to prove a point. I don't think I can do much more.

I'm not saying something like ban people for bumping. But I just think that some people these days underestimate the great power of the ninjas that's all. I feel as though some people think they can do whatever they want on here these days.

Personally, I think there should be a "report this thread" option. Then it could lead us to a page to message a mod. Granted people are gonna misuse it but then you could just ban them for misusing a feature. Just an idea.

Achronos said he was working on a report thread/ flagging type thing before Halo 3 and that it would be added when he could finish it after Halo 3. I hope it's almost done.

Surely you don't care what those whiners think? They need to sack up if they're going to get on a site that's rated M for mature. :P

I'm already working on something like this. In real life. :|

I, too, hope this is done. I remember him saying it would be harder to abuse than people think, too. Those that would try would be justly punished. :)

Or was I imagining that?

That exact statement is what I'm referring to. Good memory :)

The rules are being enforced plenty hard. The only difficulty is the sheer number of users who aren't up to date on the rules and the fact that the mods can't catch everything. It's up to the members to catch what the mods miss. Though a report thread button would make things a lot easier for everyone.

I do blacklist people for bumping. Screw warnings for that.

For some reason I've never been a big fan of the report a thread idea. Call me old fashioned but I just can't get used to such an idea.

Me either. Some of those threads amuse me.

That and I think a lot of people would be reporting stuff that doesn't need to be reported.

Though a report button would be perfect for a thread like this one.

Wow.

I do believe that. However, I still see topics that do not even get locked. I guess I'll just pm you bumping threads from now on ;-)

The only difficulty is the sheer number of users who aren't up to date on the rules
exactly. However, this group of new group of members ignores stickies a lot and do not read the rules. We need to find a way to make the forum rules more noticable. Forexample, when a member signs up on this site, an automatic PM comes with their account explainging the forum rules.

The idea is to make the rules more noticable so that new members will acknowledge these rules because I see a lot of members breaking rules.

I dish out more two week bans than warnings or 3 and seven day blacklists.
If the forums stay like this long enough, the penalty for breaking the rules will be me visiting your house, scooping your heart out with a spoon and selling your mom after I had my time with her.

And if that's not enough, your pet will be flung into the sun with the giant slingshot.

Maybe then people will understand the rules.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I hate to say this, but when a member has virtually nothing to lose by spamming, griefing, etc, they more often than not will.

Why a few of you seem surprised at this, I'm not sure. Being a former Forum Jackass myself, I know what it's like. The account was free, there was nothing I saw to be gained then, and I relished the opportunity to harp on anyone, thinking it was personally entertaining.

Finding value in the community now, I'm different, of course.

The problem here is that members see their accounts as a disposable source of negative enjoyment. You need to give members something to work for (the RvB forums give out little "awards" from the staff. Worthless, but effective!), or else they aren't going to see any value in their time spent here.

I don't mean to stress "elitism" with this, but I feel if current and new members could strive to aquire (and later on work to not lose) a little emblem in their signiture from, say...Frankie, we'd see a noticable inprovement in forum behavior.

It's a good idea for the online community. But then you get the occasional guy who brags about it when everyone has the emblem. Still something to take into consideration. It would work really well with the online trust system.

That's why you allow people to lose them. I'm sure the opposite side of the community would have a good laguh at someone who brags about their medal, then subsequently gets it taken away because.
