Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

That's true. I do like the idea as well. Other than the occasional bragger, I really cannot see a flaw. But Where would the medal go? Like next to your forum name?
In my opinion, the signiture pop-out would work best. Out of the way, but still visible to anyone.
There appears to be sufficient amount of room beneath the "last posted" stat there. You could fit several medals there, if you wanted...
For Example:
Community Award (Blue Septigon symbol): Given out anonymously at will, for doing something worthy. The basic of medals given by any one at or above moderator status.
The Achronos Society (Gold Septigon symbol): Doing something very significant for the community (i.e. One One Seven's Networking guide, The Moderator Finder program, etc.) Given out only when actions deem necessary by the man himself.
The Pirate's Bounty (Treasure Chest): A few-times-a-month medal given out by the upper-echelon of Bungie Studios to various members. (This'd ultimately become a who-knows-who kinda thing, I imagine).
The Ninja Award (Ninja's head or something): Once a week or a couple times a month, the moderators'll convene in the HFCS and choose a member who deserves said medal.
This idea, in its most basic form, is a three-tiered system. You've got your lower Community Award for good behavior and such, your mid-layer Nija and Pirate awards for more significant activity, and your top-of-the-class [/i]Achronos Society[/i] achievement for only the most superb individuals who'd warrant it.
Of course, more could be added. I'm sure Frankie'd give out the Pirate's Bounty award so often, that he'd need his own medal to prevent it form becoming less-desireable.
Edit: As an after-thought, you'd need seven medals. I don't think I need to explain myself for this one.
Additionally, to maintain some form of checks-and-balances, all moderators would be eligible to remove any of the medals from someone's possessions. They've shown more than adequate responsibility to have such an ability.
