It seems that with the new forums that it is even harder to moderate Bungie.net. Hopefully, Achronos implements a report thread button and maybe even promote some members to moderate.

Estne volumen in toga an solum tibi libet me videre?

Nothing suits me like a suit.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

I don't think they need to be more strict, its just that they (meaning you, ninjas) need to see more. Ninjas do what they can, but with one million users, and about 250,000 of those users being jerks who break the rules, 20 or so ninjas are going to have their hands full.

That's why I'm hoping Achronos either makes or finishes a report thread thing. Its not that the Ninjas arn't being strict enough, its the flood of jerks that come in each day. And half of those are mad because they just got banned, and continue to act like jerks and ignore the warnings completely.

It's not that the rules are not being enforced hard enough, it's the fact that new members are here daily. There are only about 20 active moderators, a few of which are actual Bungie employees. They have been doing an exceptional job, especially since Halo 3 was released. I applaud their efforts, I just wish they were a bit more active. I do think they deserve a little break though.

There are many ideas right in this thread that can help give the ninjas a break. A report-thread button and a medal system are just a couple of ways to make a ninja's job easier for them to handle. Also if it is less complicated to be a ninja, then maybe more people could handle the job (Hence, new moderators).

I'm being meaner... just for you. I have blacklisted the hell out of this place for minor infractions. You are right; when the community notices a decline in standards that's when we aren't doing enough.

There are less of us each day, it feels, but that simply means we need to be more on our ball.

I have gotten so much hate mail today... I'm so warm and fuzzy inside.

Perhaps not. Just find a crate and hide behind it. Chances are, his jugernaut rage'll likely make him overlook you.

Actually I was going to recommend that everyone stays far, far away from him right now. He is swinging that hammer pretty freely.

As much as that takes my breath away, I hope these people being banned and blacklisted know why they are. Because if they do not know why, we may be getting no where. I just hope these people know why they were blacklisted.

I still think overall you're a nice person. You've just got to do what you've got to do. You don't have to have the hardass exterior. We can still have a strict Pezz who's a cool guy towards the well-behaved members.

On the whole, I think moderators need to be more on the ball. Sure, you guys have lives off the forums, but that's a tired excuse to use when some literally do no moderating, but they're online all the time.

I sent you a PM of a Rick Roller yesterday in yet he is still here, isn't it against the rules to Rick Roll the community? Why did you ignore me?
I blacklisted him and recommended him for a perma-ban. Give it a while for us to catch up; we are working as fast as we can on a problem we have no chance of rectifying at this rate.

Don't think that our lack of swiftness has anything to do with ignoring or prioritisation, we just have stuff to get on with.

We have the Soul deliver a message when we blacklist, explaining the situation, problem and even thread in which it was posted.

At the current rate; no, I really can't be cool to anyone. At the moment everyone in the community seems to be posting on alts as spammers and trolls and just generally being bastards to one another.
Also; since Shishka's departure it has become clear that people are far more confident with just shooting off their mouths or existing right under the fringe of moderator action. Just outside blacklistable while still causing as much damage, if not more, than the single minded spammer.

Also, seeing as I am finishing my final tests, I am insanely stressed already, so I'm sort of tapping into that in order to pull the reigns in on the forum a little more. I will be done in a week or two and you will see me become a little more Yoozel-ish... stumbling into threads, throwing up in The Underground and banning people for being "a total buzz-kill".

A few days ago the biggest spam thread I've seen in a while just ended up being locked. Y'all shoulda seen the massive quote pyramids that resulted from it lol. But not a single person was blacklisted.

Not being a snitch, just making an observation. Perhaps the moderator just read the original post and didn't have the interest in reading through the thread.

But it was like 10+ pages of spam, definitely one for the records lol

I feel the mod team is doing a good job though, considering the circumstances. And of course, the community isn't completely lost.

I'm sure Soul's message is better now since that was a couple years ago. But it goes to show that Soul can be helpful. But it isn't everything.

Really? I could have swarn Disembodied Soul was there for that almost 2 years ago. Oh well. I can be wrong. It has been a while since I was banned. The point is sometimes people still do not know why they are banned. People come on this forum occasionally after they are banned and ask "Why was I banned?" and stuff like that.

No offense meant, but if there aren't enough people, then get more.

You don't have to employ more moderators...just deputize a couple (responsible) people, give them them a blank check of destructiion, and tell them if they're caught doing anything they shouldn't be as a moderator, they temselves will be blacklisted, too.

My pitch may indeed have flaws, but if you're viewing the entire community as a litter box that hasn't been scooped out in a few weeks (again, no offense), then I don't really see how there's too much of a difference.

Of course, ultimately, it's not your decision though, is it?

Finishing the fight since 1988!

The Column Underground: Made of Win

The soul sends a message after a blacklist? I guess I didn't know that because I've never been banned. I kinda miss the soul though. Although ive seen a few Disembodied Soul clones on the inter-tubes.

ALSO

I disagree with a "report this thread" button. The fact is that flame wars would cause people to repeatedly press said button and the true bad threads that should be locked would get lost in the flood. If you add this button, you just make the need for more moderators higher. Good intentions, but I dont think it could be put into use.

ALSO AGAIN

I realise said flame wars should be locked anyways. But my point is that there are going to be people who will report threads that they just dont like and dont need a lock. And thats a bad thing.

There are definitely some great ideas in this thread. I really like the one about members flagging threads/posts and the "forum medals". More mods would be nice too.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Jerkface!

To odmichael; the Soul has a new function, since the new site launched basically. He is the messenger boy for us now, for warnings and auto blacklists. We put a reason in the box, the Soul screams it at the unfortunate individual.

No offense meant, but if there aren't enough people, then get more. That's not offensive at all, C'mon call me a jerk or something.

The community is very hard to trust in these times, so many alt accounts has ensured that even the best members are leading double lives. Trust me (oh double standards!), we know about it.

We really are caught between a rock and a hard place; be overwhelmed or employ someone who might cause more damage than good.

Something i think has been touched on, but not explained is the fact that adding more moderators can cause many, many problems. I actually sent a PM to achronos about it on the subject and that's pretty much what he said; more mods = more problems, and i really thought he was tripping somethin' dodgy, to be perfectly honest, but thinking on it, he was right. Just look back at the forums since the last batch of mods. We've seen more fawning emo bollocks directed at mods (and by mods, i mean evilcam) than you could possibly fathom. Now, say we introduce about 3 dozen new moderators (entirely possible), and combine that with all the new emo bollocks in the halo 3 forum. We've got a veritable black hole of emo bollocks. It doesn't even bear imagining.

Personally, i'd like to see the end of people simply being granted moderator status on their public, well-known accounts and instead be granted an alternate sekrit account with moderator powers. It's been mentioned in this thread that moderators certainly don't post as much as they'd like, due to their words being taken as those of a god. It allows them to carry on with their normal forum lives and still do their job as moderators. Also prevents ridiculous dramas when a moderator does something wrong or when a moderator quits, or hell, when a moderator does anything moderately out of the ordninary.

However, i'd imagine there's loads of problems with this that it's too late for me to be arsed to think of.

If you wreen't offended, at least the slightest bit, then you didn't quite get the message!

So you're telling me there aren't one or two people at least who you have faith in? I would name names, but that'd only look to most people as a lame attempt at getting them promoted for personal gain. Trust me (oh double standards!), we know about it. Believe me, I trust you. You did give me a sticky way back in the day. That has to be worth something, right?

We really are caught between a rock and a hard place; be overwhelmed or employ someone who might cause more damage than good. Again, there are at least a few people. I agree that I wouldn't give some of the more prominant people here the responsibility of watching grass grow, but there are a few who I'd put my reputation (or what's left of it) on the line for.

That's good at least. If you feel that you will make it through this on your own, then more power too you. However, don't let your stubbornness get the better of you.

Of course, ultimately, it's not your decision though, is it?Sure isn't. At least we agree on one thing. Now if only you'd own up to that $20 (That's US, not Australian whatever-the-hell-kinda-currency-you-have stuff.) you own me...

I actually had a really nice response to this, but it didn't go through and now I'm too jaded to retype it.

In a nutshell...

Pros:
Your idea would definately appeal to me in a never-to-happen, hypothetical sense. I'd be a little reluctant to give up what I enjoy about this community if 99% of what I said was taken as false fact.

Cons: Switching accounts between personal and moderating ones would be tedious, and evetually ineffective. Moderators in their personal accounts can't take care of matters directly, and also can't be sent PM's regarding "illegal" threads, and the Mod Stalker would be half-obsolete.
