How about becasue seven is the so-called 'perfect' number?

  • 06.05.2004 5:56 PM PDT

I think you'll find the origins of Bungie's association with the number 7 are much deeper than those reasons postulated above.

7 and 12 are considered "perfect numbers." this goes back to the bible, IIRC.

i'm going to take a guess and say that's why 13 is considered unlucky: by adding one more, its ruined 12, the perfect number.

::then begins to research the topic::

"The root of the name of the Number Seven means Perfect, Complete, or Satisfied."

"This number has been called the symbol of perfection, and also the symbol of rest." -http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=seven

hey cool, look what the internet can tell us! lol.

now why Bungie grabbed the number seven so early on, and has been obsessed with it ever since? Well, they've always been obsessed with great stories filled with metaphors, allusions, and generally saturated with meaning. It just wouldn't be right if they didn't also throw some references using the number 7. Certainly if it was good enough for the Bible to throw it around nilly willy, why not them as well? And it became sort of an inside joke that grew and grew.

at least that's my guess. only they could really answer that question ;).

You know not the significance of what you seek.
You search into oblivion.

7 is a T in L33T 5P3AK (Leet Speak).

And by the way, 13 is considered the lucky number in some cultures. Matt Sundin for the Toronto Maple Leafs is Sweedish and wears the number 13 since it is considered "lucky".

You shouldn't always think that the simplest or "obvious" answer is the right one.

You shouldn't always think that the simplest or "obvious" answer is the right one.

But to dwell on something that's pointless is a waste of time.
The simplest reason is always right.

You obviously haven't known Bungie for very long. NOTHING is ever simple.

7 is the perfect number. I agree with jager because look at seven days to create the earth?
Also why else is 666 a terrible number, as well as satan's number? he is striving to become or imitate GOD but always falls short because he cant. that is why he has a 6.

No kidding. My conclusion has always involved teleporters, but it's hard to say why you'd need to spin it if that was the case...

Thought we all knew by now that no matter what the answer is, we'll be wrong, and no matter how close we get to it, the further they'll riddle us up so we never find out hehe. Working Bungie out is like using an unknown to find an unknown...you might get an answer but it's never simple :P
