Okay, so let's be serious with ourselves. The Needler isn't the greatest gun out there. But why is it even incorporated (other then the fact that it's a cool gun)? I remember Frankie saying something in his Weekly Update about it being a purple punching glove. Well, I tried a few bouts with my friend I didn't see anything amazing about it's punching ability. If I use a Covenant weapon it's usually a plasma rifle, a weapon which effectively slows down the enemy and wastes their shield. I'm just musing but I'd like to hear some input for others.

The only time I have ever used the needler is in a, "If i die your going ith me situation". Usually by the time you've put enough needles in them to create the fatal explosion your dead from pistol fire.

Its my favorite gun so I feel obligated to stand up for it. Its actually not that bad for taking out rookie and even some experienced snipers. If their first shot misses, just face their direction while sidestepping and let loose a volley of pink. Most of the time it'll force them to move position. During that time you can usually get to a base or close the gap. Also, in Battle Creek, it is excellent at taking down people on the rocket mound.

Edit: Anyone know why the hell it doesnt have a spawn point in Blood Gulch on any of the weapon settings?

Ive found needlers work exceptionally well on larger levels when youre playing on Legendary and you need to take down a group of Elites. If the area is large enough you can get to a point where the Elites will stand there looking at you but wont charge at you. You can then just load them up with needles until they explode and die.

Then again, thats only if you run out of ammo from other, better guns. Such situations like saving Sgt. Johnson on the Halo level, that first ambush is crazy on Legendary.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I'm with ya, Billiam.

Uses and Pros for the needler:
1.) Homing feature is incredibly effective and sometimes hard to dodge.
2.) 7 needles = BOOM! Usually will kill anything except hunters and higher-ranking elites.
3.) 20 needles = 3 BOOM!s. Will kill anything except hunters, and also blows up grenades that are dropped, killing and damaging other enemies as well.
4.) Second best anti-elite gun at short range (topped only by Plasma Pistol overcharge), and second best anti-grunt gun (topped by pistol) at short to semi-long range (for those who know how to use it well).
5.) Looks cool.
6.) Face it. Watching things blow up several times is damn fun.
7.) VERY effective against the Flood at out-of-the-shotgun's range (except carriers).
8.) Best anti sentinel gun. Plasma Pistol is good, but its overchage-homing feature doesn't adjust to movement as well as needles.
9.) One of the coolest weapon concepts ever made.

Those are a little opinionated, but if you know how to use the needler to its fullest, then we'd agree... to an extent, anyhow.

Cons:
1.) Clip/Max ammo carriage are too small.
2.) Is terrible for killing Jackals and Hunters (But fun to kill hunters with... just not effective).
3.) Can hurt you if you're dumb enough to stand close to the BOOM!s (unless you like watching yourself die... as we all sometimes do).

Extremely cool future uses:
1.) DUEL NEEDLERS! 40 NEEDLES = 6 BOOM!s, PEOPLE!
3.) (Possibility) You melee someone with the needler, and all the needles come out of the top of the weapon and stick into the person when you hit them.... Hehehe I'd love to see that.

Again, this may be a little opinionated, and I don't mean to offend anyone in posting this. These are just the pros and cons I've found.

i think the needler is the greatest bragging weapon ever. i mean, i talk alot of smack when i play. but when i waste someone with the needler...the floodgates are open. it's open range for insults man, whooo. only thing i'd like to see happen with the needler, other than an increase in playing effectiveness, is that when you melee someone with the needler the remaining needles (or a portion of them) should get stuck to the guy you're hitting. if they did that, it'd be the coolest weapon in the damn game. i started a thread about this idea earlier, but i don't think many people care about the needler to begin with. well screw that. i'm glad they brought it back.
